(Klingon Embassy on New Romulus – Security Office – Security OfficersJ’ck and Yo – 0822)
Security Officers J’ck, son of Ca’ther and Yo, daughter of Lu’e haddrawn the communications detail. What this meant was that they had to gothrough messages send over the security frequencies by other Embassies. Theyhad to decide what reports were important and which were a waste of time.Needless to say, it was not a popular detail. But somebody had to do it. It waswhen he opened a message from the Embassy on Farius Prime, that J’ck rolled hiseyes.
“Fool.” He said. “Apparently somebody doesn’t know that the Embassy gotthe Mark XVII consoles last month.”
Yo joined him at his console. The security scan of the message showedthat the contents of the report had been copied and pasted from another file. And the picture didn’t match either. One of the upgrades on the Mark XVII wasthat it took pictures of whoever send a message. It kept people from usingsomebody else’s account. J’ck identified the person and wrote a report for theInternal Affairs department. ~M’Kai, son of Rot’Nei, you will be in a lot oftrouble soon.~
“What about the contents of the report ?” Yo asked. “It seems legitimate.Do we launch a search for this Mackenzie ?”
“Not yet. I’ll call Farius Prime later and confirm the report with theirsecurity chief. You know how the Ambassador gets when we waste time acting on unconfirmedinformation.”
Yo grunted and went back to her console, they still had a lot of messagesto dig through.

J’ck walked into the security office and cursed. It was raining again. TheEmbassy was located in the capital of New Romulus and seemed to be on the sideof the city that got the most rain. Officially, it was simply in anotherneighborhood of the city. But the people who lived there called it Little Qo’nos.
At heart was the Embassy, which was surrounded by the houses of the Ambassadorand the staff. Outside of that came an outer ring with a Klingon restaurant, awarehouse and the shuttle hangar. Finally, there was a thick wall to keep unwantedvisitors out. Two large gates provided the only access. Officially, the onlybuildings there were watchtowers integrated into the wall. But over the years,a shanty town had grown up against the inside of the wall. This was home to dozensof half-blood Klingons who had been drawn here over from all over Romulanspace. There was no shanty town on the outside of the wall, because a widechannel prevented construction on that side. Recently, however, the town was beginningto expand to the roofs of the warehouse and the hangar.
J’ck sat down behind one of consoles and activated it. He began keyingin the routing information. Finally, he hit the transmit button. ~Here we go.~Due to time differences between Farius Prime and New Romulus, there was a fairchance that he was waking Chief Shep’rd. But it could simply not be helped. Finally, there was a beep and Shep’rd appeared. As expected, he had been asleep.~And he looks like it.~ His hair was a mess and his uniform looked disheveled.
“Yes !?” The Chief barked. “Why are you calling me in the middle of thenight !?”
“This officer J’ck of the Embassy on New Romulus. We have received a reportregarding one Mackenzie, daughter of K’Nera ?”
This got him a sigh from the Security Chief. J’ck explained about thereport they had received, courtesy of the M’Kai. Then the security chief beganexplaining about Mackenzie, her mother, her situation and why M’Kai was such anidiot. As soon as he was done, they two of them began discussing what theyshould do about it.

After his conversation with Shep’rd, he had called the IKS Skral andtalked to K’Nera’s father Rox. The old man had provided him with a recording ofa conversation with his daughter. In said conversation, K’Nera gave up herparental rights to Mackenzie. This might help uncomplicate things once theyfound the young lady. The problem was that New Romulus was a big place. But heand Yo were going to their utmost best.
“We’ll have to be careful, or these PetaQ’s will throw the child injail.”
“We will be our search tomorrow. Do not tell the Ambassador.”
“You’re the boss.”
J’ck nodded. Of course, he was not really the boss. The security chief forthe New Romulus was a man called Ha’ry, nicknamed The Dirty, because of his fondnessfor using his disruptor. Fortunately, he was on his yearly vacation at themoment. Otherwise, there was no way for them to get away with what they wereplanning to do. Still, they would have to be careful. Only time would tell ifthey were successful.
