Mission: Death in the Shadows
Day: 9
Stardate: 2446.02.09

(USS Illuminar - Deck 1 - Bridge - SPA LT JG Ariel Trei - 14.10)

The Security Office on deck 5 served as a communication point for the ship’s company to contact if they needed information or help. The supervisory position occupied by a security officer was not permanent but was part of a three-month rotating duty. Calls would come through to staff and they would assign the duty security detail to answer that call. They also dealt with the day to day routine administrative activities associated with security and the armoury. Starfleet security and intelligence routine bulletins were often re-routed to the Security Office. Lee felt that he didn’t have the time to read everything most of it was either trivial or involved news that didn’t relate to the Sentinel. In any case, only items that were flagged for ‘Security Chief’s eyes’ only drew Lee’s attention. Lee was studying the schematics of the pirate ship, the battle cruiser Kang on a workstation along with Assistant Chief of Security PO2 Carol Linnis. Carol was not part of the initial boarding team but she would have a standby team as back up. The three-dimensional rendition of the internal passageways and cabins of the wanted ship appeared alongside the tactical display.

“It’s doesn’t appear to be a large vessel.” Said Carol looking at the schematics. “So it would be relatively straightforward to board and secure. But there were also volumes of space on the map which were not detailed: these could be secret compartments to hide contraband.”

“Three teams. Four in each team each with a sniper” thought Lee. “. We need to secure their cargo bays and take the bridge to recover the computer and navigation systems on the ship. Hopefully, they might provide useful information about their activities, ports of call, buyers and so on.”

“Sounds like we need someone who's fairly expert with breaking into encrypted data systems." She said it matter-of-factly

Lee glanced up to see Lieutenant JG Ariel Trei appeared in the Security office. Just the person.

"Reporting as ordered sir. My reason for wanting to be on the boarding team is a matter of honor. I am aware that there are no Klingons aboard the vessel, but thievery and piracy are actions that those who do this have no honor. To confront these men will be an act of honor especially using a Klingon vessel to do it." Said the Lieutenant.

Matter of honour! Thought Lee. What is about Klingons even half Klingons who keep going on about honour! Fighting is not an honour.

“Lieutenant” said Lee “It is not an act of honour I am looking for. I want to use those analytical skills of yours to break into their computer encrypted data systems. Your fighting skills are better upto scratch. I’m putting you in charge of Charlie 1 team to secure the bridge. Get to the Armoury and arm yourself. Then report to transport 1 for further instructions. Your team will join you there.”.
