ILLUMINARRPG: (9-1412)- Vice Admiral Saleke

Stardate: 2446.02.09

(USS Hades -- Deck 1 -- Bridge -- Vice Admiral Saleke -- 1412)

The Illuminar had signaled back receipt of the communication and was moving
toward the derelict as the Hades hunted the wolf pack and kept itself
between them and the smaller ship. While the Illuminar class had crossed
over in some ways to a fighting ship the Prometheus class from design to
implementation was a ship of war. The Hades had performed many missions in
her time but she had that pedigree. And if necessary she could split into
three separate ships and hunt each one all at once.

 The pirates either knew or had come to the realization that this ship was
not to be trifled with and were trying to escape. Perhaps it was seeing it
slip into the battlefield unnoticed and taking down the Klingon cruiser
with such ease that had frightened them. Coupled with its larger size and
menacing cross-section it was the stuff of nightmares for the lightly armed
and protected marauder vessels who had also been shown that their
frightening weaponry had been reduced to the threat level of a pop gun.

"Enemy vessels are splitting up sir. It appears they are making a run for
it."

"Accelerate and engage nearest enemy vessel. Prepare to disengage and
intercept if they try to get around us to return to planet six."

"Aye sir."

The hum of the engines rose in pitch as the Hades leapt toward the nearest
marauder. Their ships were smaller yes but not faster. Admiral Saleke's
ship was top of the charts for speed amongst Federation ships. Some were
known to say that this class of ship was a warmonger's wet dream. A well
rounded vessel whose very silhouette could inspire terror and with the
ability to separate into three distinct ships of equal menace and
capability during a battle.

 But what would one call itself in such an instance? The answer to that was
for ease of communication they were called Acheron, Phlegathon and Lethe.
Acheron referred to what could loosely be described as the saucer section,
that menacing head of the turtle that contained the main bridge. Each of
the names referred to a river of the ancient Greek afterlife of the damned.
Acheron standing for "Bringer of Woe".

The upper engineering section was called Phlegathon meaning "Bringer of
Fire" and the lower engineering section had been named by Saleke's
engineering complement according to a running joke within StarFleet. They
had given it the designation of Lethe, "The Forgotten Ones".

The pirate vessel went through a series of frantic evasive maneuvers as the
starship bore down upon it unmercifully like a fox being run to ground by a
hound.

"Within weapons range sir."

"Fire torpedoes, Beta spread. Follow up with phasers."

 The muted thump of multiple launches heralded streaks of fiery orange as
the quantum torpedoes raced hungrily for their quarry. One exploded in
close proximity to the marauder, two more detonated nearby, the explosions
shaking it savagely. The following phaser volley first knocked out its
propulsion systems and the following blast turned it into an erupting
flower of ionized games and debris.

"The others are quitting the battlefield Admiral, they're going to warp.
Should we pursue?"

"Their heading?"

"183 mark 2. They are leaving the system."

"Change heading to return to planet six. I have given my word that we will
safeguard the Illuminar as they take the Klingon vessel. Maximum speed."

"Aye sir."

The Hades turned and increased speed back toward the home planet of the
Morgs and Eymorgs. The pirates had been put on notice, StarFleet would no
longer suffer their depredations. They would be hunted to ground and
destroyed without mercy. In the meanwhile they still had a base to be taken
down and it was time to learn how and why they had outfitted themselves
with a Klingon warship.
