(Qo'nos- Ventilation Shaft KBH 11 - Maintenance Engineer - Shag - 1630)
Shag was not so silent about his cursing. Why was it that whenever they found life signs in the air vents that it becomes his job to chase whatever it was out? And there was another one. A tiny blip on the life sign monitors. True they didn't want any vermin chewing through the materials that would then need to be replaced. And Klingon vermin were often reported as chewing through deuterium walls. Then there had been reports, earlier, about finding people crawling through the sewer systems. He just shook his head, wondering what went through their minds.
As he moved along the vent he could hear the sound of footsteps. These weren't small, scritchy, vermin steps. They were plodding, full-sized people steps. His eyes narrowed and he pulled out his long blade. Slowly he moved towards the sound, and then realized that it was moving towards him as well.
A moment later he let out a cry of surprise when he ran into a human. It just about made his heart stop.
"QI'yaH!" he called out. "ghay'cha', what are you doing down here woman?" He didn't bother to wait for an answer. Even the maintenance engineers had heard about the Federation visitors. He didn't know how this one got all the way down there, and to be honest, he didn't really care. It was outside his realm of responsibility. However, he did have the presence of mind to think he might get rewarded for returning it to its owners.
Shag grabbed the back of the woman's collar and began to urge her along the way out. After about five minutes they found fresh air. Five minutes after that he deposited his ward to a Starfleet officer and a giant rock in a uniform.
"I believe that this belongs to you," he said, finally releasing the collar.
"Indeed it does," the rock grumbled. It tapped its comm badge and spoke. "Lt. Commander T'Mur, Ensign Long has been returned to us."
=^=Understood. Have her return to the ship and confine herself to her quarters until I have time to speak to her. I am already on the Illuminar.=^=
"Roger that," the rock said. He looked down at Long. "Time to go home, Dorothy."
(reply Long iyw)
