Day: 4
Stardate: 2446.04.29
(Qo'nos - Ventilation Tube - Security CPO P'Rah - 15:50)
The security officers split up at Ensign Long's command. P'Rah growled,
as his tail moving rapidly back and forth, his ears lowered on his
head. The CPO's job was to guide young Ensigns to become useful
officers, but Ensign Long was not one to listen. And she cultivated an
unusual friendship with the enlisted ranks.
That didn't matter at the moment, he was alone to follow the strange
sound. He took his hand torch and turned it to red. His superior
vision would give him an advantage, and the red light would not travel
as far as white light. Closing his eyes and listening intently he made
note of the sounds that Ensign Long ad Crewman Chinlo were making. He
heard the sounds of feet, many smallish ones. He smelled fear in the air.
Opening his eyes, he started to head down the corridor, the dim light a
blessing for him. Moving slowly, pausing every so often to listen, he
kept moving forward, phaser at the ready.
His hunting was interrupted by a muffled noise and a reverberation as if
something large had fallen down. It took a couple of minutes, but P'Rah
could faintly smell fresh blood.
Something was dead down here, and if there was a killer down here he
needed to be extra careful. Tapping his Com badge, there was noting but
static. He followed his nose, coming to a vertical intersection. The
smell was stronger up, so he scrambled up till he could get his back
against one wall and his feet against the other and started chimneying
up the shaft.
Reaching the top, he pulled himself up and took a bearing. Sounds were
fading, distant but blood was closer.
Moving forward cautiously, P'Rah crouched down, his phaser out the
ready, as he moved forward. The blood smell got more intense before he
saw where it was coming from. Laying on the tube floor, in a pool of her
own blood. Spinning around, he didn't see anything. Next he reached
down to confirm she was dead. He knew the answer from the blood around,
but one had to be sure. No pulse. He scanned the area again, but didn't
see anything. Sniffing the air, the scent of blood dominated his nose.
However, he smelled fresh air, and that strange odor again. It was
stronger her than before.
Looking down at the woman's face, he moved his hand to close her eyes.
He'd seen bloodshed before, lost friends too, but this was a preventable
accident, and he bore some of the responsibility for that. Now, as much
as he wanted to track that odor down,
(Qo'nos - street level - SO CPO P'Rah - 1615)
P'Rah placed Chinlo's body on the rough pavement and stood up. His back
cracked as he stretched. While she wasn't heavy, it had been awkward to
carry her through the tunnels till he found a vertical shaft with a
ladder. During his trip in the tunnels, he wondered what the odor was,
what it meant. The sounds too. Nothing he'd heard before.
His uniform was remarkably free from blood, as most of it was left in
the tunnel. Still he needed a quick change before he could get back to
the primary mission.
Tapping his com badge, "Devers, is Ensign Long with you?" he asked
=^= Negative. Are you ok? The Chief is all manners of pissed =^= the man
asked.
"Damn," P'Rah said. "We got separated in the tunnels. Chinlo is dead,"
P'Rah said.
=^= How? =^=
"Throat was cut, it looks like. but I am getting the body to the ship
for the Doctors to take a look at. I'll be back to you shortly."
=^= Copy =^= came the reply.
P'Rah sighed, and picked up the body. "Illuminar, CPO P'Rah here. One
to beam directly to sickbay."
=^= Getting a lock now. Something is off Petty Officer. These readings
are strange. =^=
"Cause I'm carrying a dead body, now get me to sickbay."
P'Rah felt the transporter take hold as he dematerialized.
