(Farius Prime, Klingon Embassy – Staff Quarters – File Clerk K’Nera –0853)

The connection seemed to take forever. But eventually, the image of themiserable piece of dishonor that father appeared on the screen. As usual, theold fart was drunk. ~The more things change, the more they stay the same.~ 

=^=nuqneH?=^= Rox said. 

“Greetings, father,” K’Nera answered. 

It had been ages since they had talked. ~Not since mother died.~ Hername had been Ma’guyh and she had been an assassin. Using the alias of “TheEngineer”, she had killed her victims using clever traps and devices. 

But then one of her rivals – another assassin known only as “The Shadow”had sabotaged one of her devices and turned it against her. It had been adishonorable death. Rox had attempted to track him down and kill him, butfailed. It was this failure - and the knowledge that The Shadow was still outthere - that had driven Rox into drinking. 

Roxpaused for more than just a moment. The dishonourable death of his wife, andhis own inability to avenge her, had led to his bloodwine abuse. Finally …ultimately … he was able to muster: =^=What isit you would have me do?=^=

“I heard the IKS Skral was assigned to escort the USS Illuminar. Andthat Alexander Dyson is now a Starfleet Officer assigned to that vessel. Did youavenge my honor, father ?" If Rox had slaughtered Dyson, she could usethat fact to force Mackenzie to come back to her. After all, with her fatherdead, she would have nowhere left to run. ~That'll teach you, you ungratefullittle brat.~

=^=We battled. And he acquitted himself with honor. I consider the matternot quite settled, but better than it was.=^=

K'Neracursed like...well, a drunken Klingon. Her plan had gone to pieces, now thebrat would continue to New Romulus. And it was only a matter of time before thenews came back to Dyson. She pounded her desk.

=^=Focus your rage. Better is a process, not a single event.=^=

"Idon't care about your process ! I want my daughter back !"

=^=You do, or you wouldn't be angered. I do, or I wouldn't have actedagainst the … Starfleet officer. Trust your instincts, as I do. But trust minetoo. There is more to do. And more will be done.=^=

K'Nerarolled her eyes. The fool thought he actually cared about the brat.

"Thebrat ran away to New Romulus. This is not about her ! If my superiors find out,my career will be over !" She spat. "I'll be lucky if they don'texecute me as a spy, or reassign me to Rura Penthe !"

=^=Is this about your honor or your career?=^= Roxasked rather pointedly.

"Inever wanted the blasted brat ! I had to spent nine months sober because ofthat, that....cretin !" She pounded the desk again."If it had been up to me, I would have shipped her off years ago !"

=^=Are you, then, asking me for a time machine? Is it nine months you wantback?=^=

"Iwant you to removed that....thing from my life ! You can tell Dyson that I amgiving up my parental rights. I never want to see that....useless lump of fleshagain !" 

"Verywell. THAT I can do. A time machine would require rather more … time … than youappear to have," Rox chuckled. He saw himself as having the upper hand atthe moment. "If your honor is addressed by your stepping away from thisentirely, so much the better! I will deal with what you refuse to."

"Idon't care what you do ! I will never speak to you again !"

And withthat, she closed the link.

Roxchuckled a bit. He had very much wanted to say that if she didn't care what hedid then there was little point to the conversation. She closed the link beforehe could respond. If she hadn't, he would have. When a talk is over, it ends.Or, at least it should. Klingons didn't tend to waste words — unlike Humans orVulcans.

(IKS Skral – Rox’s Quarters – Klingon Officer Rox andACONN Alexander Dyson – 1608)

Alexseemed to be lost in thought when he received an unexpected, unscheduled hailover the comm. 

"Thisis Rox," said the Klingon, evidently sober and proud of himself (for achange). "State your current activity."

Alex was snapped out of his pondering by his personal terminal. 

=^=I'm off duty.=^=

"Maj!I have information for you. K'Nera wants nothing to do with the family'sbusiness."

=^=Did she at least have the courage to confirm the child's existence ?=^=

"Yes.I believe the expression she used was, 'in the wind.'”

=^=That's okay. I know where the child is,=^= Rox was not going to likethis. =^=It has a half-sibling on Romulus,=^= He paused. =^=Do you know thechild's name and sex ?=^=

Roxprovided the information he had.

=^=Mackenzie, daughter of K'Nera, =^= Alexchuckled as he read the data from the display. "Mackenzie Whisky is aFarius Prime only brand. Typical."

"Mackenzie,daughter of … You'll need to amend that. K'Nera wants nothing to do withthis."

=^=Mackenzie Dyson is it then.=^=

"Yes,that's better. If K'Nera wants no involvement, she should have no credit in thechild's future glories."

=^=Damn Skippy.=^= He gave Rox a look. =^=Don't ask, it's an Earth thing. But it means you are right about that. Rox, I want you to be there when I go to NewRomulus. Will your duties allow it ?=^=

"Iwill not only allow it. I demand it. Someone must see to this according tocustom."

=^=Good, I will see about rallying extra hands for this mission. I willcontact you as soon as I have secured them. And God have mercy on anybody whogets between me and my daughter, because I won't !=^+ He spat,much to his own surprise. ~Discovering your father instincts.~

"Klingonshave no gods, but we are well-acquainted with the habits of yours. For ourpurposes, they got in our way. So we killed them."

Alexnodded. =^=Thank you for the information, Dyson out.=^=

Rox’s computer went blank. With K’Nera neglecting her duties to carry onthe house and Dyson picking up the gauntlet, arrangements would have to bemade. Legal and traditional arrangements that would make sure that the House ofRox would have an honorable path to the future. He activated his computer andbegan researching.
