Bohb was having trouble containing his excitement as Sekal examined the device. It was always difficult to decide how Vulcans felt about anything, but his body language showed an appreciation that Bohb had hoped for.

Sekal had agreed a test would be in order if Luma felt safe. Which, of course, Bohb would have had to know before as well.

“What is its power source and composition?" Sekal asked.

Suddenly Bohb got very animated, “That’s the beauty. It’s self powered. An unlimited, constantly recharging power supply. That,” he tapped on the glowing face, is literally liquid anelurian crystal. And let me tell you that was no mean feat to find the right harmonic resonance to continually fracture and recrystallize in a fluid activity without it completely destabilizing or simply exploding.”

He recalled the time Gregory had come into the lab after one of the exploding failures and his singed hair made a horrific odor. The failure of the experiment hadn’t been bad enough, but to be caught in such an unseemly state was quite embarrassing.

“But Luma gave me the clue,” he continued. “It had something to do with the harmonics of her space songs. I had recorded several of her singing sessions,” he was Sekal’s expression and held up a hand,”don’t ask, and I analyzed the harmonies she used and compared them to the harmonica of the vibrations of the crystal and… well… there you have it.”

He sat down on his stool and leaned back, “It’s practically a quantum battery, using the flow of electrons to create energy. Each molecule represents a unit that can exist in a quantum superposition state of two energy levels, fundamental and excited, similar to the way a qubit can be both 0 and 1 simultaneously in quantum computers. Not only should it maintain its power indefinitely it could be an external power supply, if needed.”

(reply Sekal)

Bohb stood up again and folded his arms across his chest, “So all that is left is the final test.” He tapped his comm badge, “Luma I need you.” He was glad he had installed holoemitters in the lab.

(reply Luma, Sekal)
