(Shuttlecraft — ACEO ENS.J.G. Dano Vermyx — 1238)

"You have been assigned to the USS Illuminar, under Captain Sekal,"
Commander Ronald Clark has said. He went on: "The good news is that the
Illuminar is currently in orbit around the Mars Complex.  They will be
there for the next week.  Make your way there as soon as you have your gear
packed.  I will let Sekal know that you are on your way."

Having received these orders, Vermyx made arrangements for transportation.

During the shuttle's transit, the Iotian Ensign reviewed the data on the
vessel. Dano found it odd that there was no retrievable data on the Captain
— one CO Sekal, which sounded Vulcan … but it didn't always pay to make
assumptions.

What Ensign Vermyx could, however, find in abundance was data for the
ship's systems. "Makes sense. The Cap probably has some classified
background secrets an Engineer Ensign … Ensigneer? … shouldn't ought to
know. Makes perfect sense. I need to know the ship inside and out. Not so
much whoever's in the center seat."

[Shuttlecraft on final approach. Please do not interfere with auto-docking
procedures.]

Dano sat back and waited. He had very little in personal gear at hand. Most
of his possessions were in transport-buffer storage aboard the shuttle.
"Auto-docking procedures" included beaming one's effects directly into
one's quarters. Once Vermyx arrived in his quarters, he'd find that his
"place for everything and everything in its place" transport protocol would
have arranged everything to his satisfaction. He'd locate his billet later,
after reporting for duty.

(USS Illuminar — Bridge — ACEO ENS.J.G. Dano Vermyx — 1247)

Dano "the Kronk" Vermyx entered the Bridge dressed in very unconventional
attire. While special nods to the Starfleet Uniform Code had been made, the
styling was very distinctly Iotian. The overall look could be construed as
either daywear or an Iotian attempt at a “uniform.”

Vermyx was probably the only person aboard wearing a hat – an Ops-Yellow,
wide-brimmed fedora with a pinch-front, teardrop-shaped crown, the front of
the brim snapped down and the back snapped up. The hatband (or trim ribbon)
was black with little gray Starfleet "arrowhead" emblems woven into the
fabric.

His shirt was tailored from rich Triaxian silk, made yellow by OHD’s woven
into the fabric. (OHD’s — Omnidirectional Holo-Diodes — were the basic
mechanism behind the holodeck.) The collar points of the shirt had rank
insignia on them, but they were metal collar tips patterned after the
2285-style Ensign emblem. There was, of course, the single conventional
black pip designating Ens/JG also pinned through the collar. Dano had a
necktie, in sky-blue, held to his button-down shirt by a silver tie-bar
adorned with the UFP circle-and-wreath icon. The shirt cuffs were held
closed by silver cuff-links – these too adorned with the UFP
circle-and-wreath.

Over the shirt, there was a vest. Something like a 2370's Captain's
two-tone vest, with a gray, quilted yoke and a square-cut collar, but with
5 buttons instead of a zipper – the lowest button being left undone. In
addition to the unorthodox closure, Vermyx's vest had pockets. Pockets
seemed not to be something Starfleet perceived a need for… To the Iotian
mind, this was an oversight. Peeking out from within one sleeve cuff, part
of a 2270’s-type wrist communicator could be seen.

The man's pants were high-waisted trousers with 2270-2340 era
division-colored "blood stripes" on the outer seams — if "blood" was in any
way Ops-yellow. Surely some species out there in the galaxy had yellow
blood… Covered by the vest – and therefore not evident to the eye —
suspenders held up the pants.

Dano's shoes were shiny black and partially covered by Ops-yellow
“spatterdashes” or spats, a type of classic Iotian footwear accessory for
outdoor wear, covering the instep and the ankle.

Completing “the look”, there was golden-colored tribble-fur coat, and over
one shoulder was slung both a duffel bag and Vermyx's custom-made longarm.

Dano Vermyx pantomimed retrieving something from a vest pocket, "opened"
the whatever-it-was, took some imaginary small thing out of it and feigned
placing it in his mouth. Vermyx then pretended to light his "cigarette."

"A'right, youse can all rest easy agin! Da Kronk is here! So'z, where's
this Captain I'm s'posta report to?"
