 Mission:  Prelude
Day: 1
Stardate:  2446.03.23

(USS Illuminar - Deck 2, FSXO’s Office – ACONN Alexander Dyson – 1138)

Alex listened as Corday, Grey Wolf and Montero discussed the fight and their plans. It was clear that he had been set up to fail by the lieutenant. ~She hung me out to dry.~ And in a way, he figured that was also true for Snoopy. He had been to busy powering up his own fighter to notice that the original plan had been for Grey Wolf to take Knight Three.

As for the things Corday and Grey Wolf said to him, he had to admit to that he was alternating between feeling insulted and flattered. But he knew that he still had to put in a lot of hours learning how to fly a fighter. ~Mako, Void/Sphinx and Mark-II.~ Finally, Lieutenant Grey Wolf concluded her little speech.

"This exercise was for you Ensign, did I hang you out to dry? Yes I did. Did it hurt your pride that you got taken down because you weren't ready? Certainly. Those holodeck simulations will only take you so far, mock-up ace or not. You need to get all of the experience you can flying with someone who can show you not only how to take on others but survive by working together, even when it all goes to hell."

“Yes, ma’am.” He said. ~Now is not the time to pick a fight with the boss.~

"So you can run off to some other post if you want or you can tough it out here and find your potential ... and live up to it. Will you get some ribbing? Jokes at your expense? Sure you will but you will find that everywhere and if you can't take it then you will wash out of the fleet. You've got too much potential Alex, I'd rather see you rise to it."

~Well, so much discussing the transfer.~ Alex thought as Grey Wolf slammed down her mug. "As for your win, just be glad you weren't in a Mako."

Alex leaned back in his chair as Grey Wolf and Montero continued the conversation. From his limited experience, he had currently a bigger fan of the Void/Sphinx then the Mako. The fact that the Mark-III had warp drive simply gave you options that the Mako didn’t have. And the Mark-III was also more nimble at impulse speeds at well. ~Which saved my bacon, even without the AI.~

"The Lieutenant isn't wrong, you showed some  flashes of brilliance out there kid, stick with us and we'll polish you us.  Believe it or not, Snoopy and I weren't born this good.  Your the  new nugget, so you'll get ribbing, don't be afraid to give it back, and one more important thing, if we're not ribbing you, worry.  That means we've decided you're not worth our time anymore.  Oh, and one more thing, I think we might want to use some of those fantasy fighters you like to fly in simulations too.  They have different performance characteristics from the ones we know of, so it might help hone the AI by presenting unknowns it has to analyse."

“Understood,” Alex said with a nod. “And that sounds like a plan to me. But be warned, the Viper is not very forgiving. There’s no AI, no neural interface and no G-force dampening. You make a mistake…” He snapped his fingers. “You end up as a puddle of something to be hosed out of the cockpit by the chief of deck.”

~But I’m not telling you about the launch, you’re going to have to find that out the hard way, Raid.~

(Reply Corday, Grey Wolf, any)

"I'm heading to Mars tomorrow, but I'll be back on 2446.03.25.  If you're up for it kid, lets dogfight."

“I’m game.” The more hours he got in, the better.
