(Mars - Medical center - Office of Charles Kroger - 1300)
After leaving the training facility, Vic grabbed a quick lunch before
heading over to his next appointment. Standing outside the door, he
suddenly got cold feet.
~Why am I here again? ~
Just as he was about to turn around and leave, the door opened. "Right
on time I see Mr. Montero. Why don't you come in." Dr. Charles Kroger
said.
"Thank you, doctor," he said and walked into the office. It was like he
remembered, same sameness every time he came here.
"Have a seat, it's been a while since you've been to see me," Kroger said.
"Yea, well we've been out and about, seeking new life and new
civilizations, you know the Star Fleet imperative," Vic replied.
Charles chuckled, "I also see you've not been following up with anyone
on the Illuminar."
Vic nodded, "I just didn't click with any of them. I went to see one,
once, and she was all trying to get touchy-feely Kumbaya hold everyone's
hands and share our feelings."
"Why did you go to see her?" Kroger asked.
Vic sighed. "Well I was running a Battle of Britain simulation in the
holodeck and we were beating the Germans, of course, when my wingman got
shot down. Now I have no idea why it effected me so much, but I ended
the sim and went to see the councilor."
Kroger nodded, "And why, in retrospect did you think you went?"
"Because I heard your voice in my ear telling me to go," Montero replied.
"What have we said about being evasive?" Kroger asked.
"Don't," replied Montero. "OK, I had that feeling creep up that I got
at Bulldog's funeral. My scars even hurt," Vic replied.
"Did you tell this to the councilor?"
"No, like I said, I didn't get a warm fuzzy from her."
"You know Vic," Kroger said, "You need to get over that."
"Whatever you say, Doc," Vic said.
"That was not very convincing," Kroger said.
"Well, I don't know if I can. If I don't have a connection, it's hard
to consider talking about the innermost thoughts. Especially when it
gets into a love fest."
The conversation went on.
