(USS Illuminar - Deck 14 - Turbo Lift - SO- Ensign Larry ‘Lucky’ Day - 0548)
Larry stepped onto the turbo lift still a little drippy from sweat. His workout this morning had gone a little hard. It was nice to have a training partner again. Ned had been the first of his old friends to warm up to the idea that he existed. They had set up a regiment of workouts to help them function better as a team. Ned felt sure the Dusty would be on boards soon.
It had been hard, but it had been fun. He had a towel around his shoulders, his shirt was soaked with sweat and he hurt. But it was a good kind of hurt. For the first time in a long while he felt almost happy.
“Deck 4,” he ordered the lift. It hummed and he could feel the lift rise. Then it hissed to a halt and the door opened. Larry stepped out of the lift and turned to go to his quarters until he suddenly realized something was wrong.
“I don’t remember Sickbay being on deck 4,” he said to himself.
He turned around and went back to the turbo lift. Sure enough, there was a number 5 on the wall. He was very confused. ~Could I have misspoke?~
He stepped onto the the lift and spoke clearly, “Deck 4.”
[You are currently on deck 4.]
“No,” he corrected the computer, “I am currently on Deck 5.”
[Negative, you are currently on deck 4.]
Was the computer arguing with him. He stepped out and touch a wall panel. “Computer, what deck am I on?”
[You are currently on deck 5.]
Larry looked back at the turbo lift with suspicion. He stepped back on and looked at the comm panel with a bit of aggression in his eyes. Then he decided to try something.
“Deck 3,” he said.
The turbolift jumped up and when the door opened sure enough he wa. On deck 4. “What the…?”
He tapped his comm badge, “Ensign day to Ops, is there something wrong with the turbolifts?”
=^=What do mean, Ensign Day?=^=
“We’ll, I’m not sure how to explain it,” he said,”but, we’ll, it’s a floor off.”
=^=What?=^=
“It’s a floor off,” he repeated. “I asked for deck 4 and it went to fleck 5. When I asked for deck 3 it went to deck 4.”
=^=Okay, Ensign, let me look into this. Thanks.=^=
Larry shook his head as he went to his quarters. Suddenly he wasn’t feeling as lucky as he was minutes before. He’d have to check on the situation later. Right now he had to shower and get ready for his shift.
