(Vulcan - ShiKahr- Nivar Institute - Dr. Felicity Tate- 1435)

She was making her rounds of the treatment center which was built on three
levels and was a hub for a number of clinical and research centers. As part
of the Institute on Vulcan devoted to science the medical division was
comprehensive. It wasn't a hospital in any sense of the word and the
treatments they worked on for the most part were cutting edge. One of those
not cutting edge was the neurological treatment suites on the first floor
of the sprawling complex. Not in its base iteration at least, that
particular medical procedure had been around for a century and a half and
nearly every world in the Federation now had a complex devoted to it.

The Nivar Institute however as well as being the birthplace of Dr. Daniel
Corrigan and Healer Sorel's breakthrough had also been researching it
heavily during the interim and had cut the time for it down considerably.
Where once it had taken a full month for the complete treatment it now
varied from as little as a week to a little over two due to the addition of
stem cells into the regeneration process. The Nivar Institute also had to
be extremely choosy as to who was picked to take part in the neurological
regeneration due to its side effect. What was that side effect? The person
who underwent the regeneration also came out of it younger, often up to 30
years physically though not chronologically. You can then imagine the
interest this would garner to individuals who were entering their declining
years.

Dr. Corrigan himself had been the first to undergo it using himself as a
"guinea pig" in essence in order to gauge whether it would work. That side
effect had not been anticipated. He had entered it as a man of some 70
years and had come out to his astonishment with the vigor of a man roughly
half his age. There was another reason it was on Vulcan within the confines
of the scientific community, the necessity of being heavily monitored and
controlled due to its inherent dangers. What were those dangers? The
patient underwent regeneration within a stasis field in which all of the
body's involuntary systems were taken over by the equipment followed by the
regeneration of the nervous system. And that control could not be quickly
switched back as it took 3 days to exert control then an additional 3 days
to release control back to the patient's involuntary system. This process
was of necessity slowly done, you couldn't very well yank control of those
systems, the body would go into shock and die, the same for the reverse.

Deaths had happened in the beginning but those deaths had not been
accidental, they had been murder. Three individuals had had their lives
stolen from them by a schemer within their own ranks. Why had something
like this happened? The target had been Amanda, the wife of Ambassador
Sarek, the others had unfortunately been undergoing treatment when the
power to their suites had been cut off. Those deaths had been a blind
masking the true target in order to throw off any investigation into
motive. The murderer had been unmasked in time to save her life but those
three including the wife of Healer Sorel had not been so fortunate. Their
deaths had not only been tragic but needless and shameful.

In theory it never should have happened, power to the suites was closely
monitored and controlled but the alarms and failsafes had been defeated by
that person who also worked on staff at the Institute but not within
medical. Since that time the system had been hardened. Not only was there
an emergency generator in case of power failure but the power system for
the suites had been designed with a number of capacitor banks that could
instantly compensate for any drop in current. Access to the suites was also
now rigidly controlled, only the access of Dr. Tate and her Vulcan
associate could get anywhere near the circuitry that monitored power flow.
Also no one outside the medical division could access diagnostics or
monitors to any of the treatment rooms. A loss of power to the suites would
be instantly fatal therefore everything had been done to insure this never
happened.

She checked the readout at the panel outside treatment suite A before
walking inside. Everything appeared to be functioning normally. Satisfied
she keyed the bio sensor with her palm then walked in as the door opened.
The patient was a 13 year old Vulcan girl who had suffered a severe
electrical shock, one severe enough to stop her heart and damage the nerves
that controlled its function. She had been brought here in critical
condition and the 3 days it took to transfer control to the system had been
a nail biter. She was currently suspended within the stasis field of the
regeneration unit. There was little to see outside of the normal placid
expression and steady breathing. The girl was well and truly unconscious as
her nervous system was being regenerated. Her skin tone was normal.
Felicity walked to the wall panel within the room and began paging through
the diagnostic screens and downloading them to her PADD. Everything was
normal, there were no aberrations. The girl was actually due to begin
reacclimation tomorrow. The treatment was mere hours from being concluded.
In a little over three days she would be awake and ready to check out.

What would the side effect do to her you ask? Very little actually you see
as the younger the patient the less effect the chronological reset had. Her
body would be much as the same when she left as when it had begun.

Felicity finished then walked out with a smile, another treatment almost
completed.

She was in the hall when she got the call. =^= Doctor Tate I have received
word that patient T'Mur left the transportation hub eighteen minutes ago.=^=

"Thank you Sanek that leaves me very little time to get ready to greet
them. When they arrive show them to my office." The shuttle from the
transportation hub took exactly 20 minutes, no less and no more. She would
just have time to get to her office before they arrived. If she hurried.
She hurried.
