Mission: Space was cool before it mattered
Day: 1
Stardate: 2446.04.25
(USS Exeter –Holodeck observation room- 2O/CEO, Cmdr. Keira Merek - 1522)
" Good for starfleet. " He laughed.
Keira looked at him inquisitively. It seemed he was beginning to read her
non-verbal cues. He elaborated.
" I find simulations often skew one's approach to the real situation. Some
become rewarded with a sense of false confidence which becomes a detriment
to their performance in an actual situation. While others don't take the
simulation seriously enough to display their capabilities and real response
to such high stress situations. In short…simulations like this are good for
analyzing how an individual strikes a blow to a moving and reactive
target." Tyrek explained.
"To expose officers and crew to uncontrolled chaos could be more
detrimental than beneficial, you lose people before you gain the experience
to deal with it. Simulations like this are needed with the holodeck. You
can make it as real as possible while removing the safety factor." She said.
" I'm curious about your perspective, care to share ,commander?" Tyrek
asked.
~Didn't I just do that?~ Keira thought. "About *this *drill?"
(Reply Tyrek)
"Ok, I'm glad Ire's doing this. It gives his team a chance to work under
his leadership, which is different from their previous Chief, Ravok. That
isn't something you want to do during an emergency. They're coming up with
their own techniques. While not necessarily by the book..." Keira looked at
the screen with a discerning eye, "they gassed them, nice!"
(Reply Tyrek)
"They aren't doing things by the book, but in some ways that's a good
thing." Keira said.
(Reply Tyrek)
"Well, Starfleet is not for everyone. We've gone against what we'll call
disgruntled former officers. They know Starfleet and all her SOPs just as
well as we do, sometimes better, and if they know our book, it's time to
throw that book away. I'm sure you're familiar with the Romulan proverb: If
your enemy knows where you are, don't be there."
(Reply Tyrek)
"I'm not being too under-critical, am I?" Keira asked.
(Reply Tyrek)

"There will always be those who mean to do us harm. To stop them, we risk
awakening the same evil within ourselves. Our first instinct is to seek
revenge when those we love are taken from us, but that's not who we are." -
Captain James T. Kirk
