(Exeter, Deck 8, Personal Quarters, Security Ensign sg Roger Harmon, 2148)

Roger was relaxing in his quarters, reflecting on recent events. He received news about the passing of one of his academy instructors, caught up with his best friend, and he learned about an injury to the most special woman in his life.

Roger still hadn't heard from Ashley, so he composed a message and sent it to the base where she was recovering. Serving in Starfleet, there were no illusions they would have a future as a couple, but they had parted so recently, strong feelings were still there.

Something else had concerned Roger. The Exeter received a marine contingent and based on what was being discussed within the department, the marines were pretty much taking over security duties. No one was happy about it, as the sec/tac personnel were being reduced to mop up work after the marines. Someone in the department said they were being relegated to mall cops.

Roger hoped Lieutenant Williams fought for them.

There were so many unknowns ahead and so much to learn.
