The scene on the holodeck was set. They were in main Engineering. The goal
was to defend it from hostiles. The lighting was low, the pulsating light
of the red alert provided a eerie ambience to the simulation.
Naci looked around the main engineering thinking that Starfleet needed to
make their engineering rooms more defensible. He checked his tactical knife
making sure that it was securely in place.
“We went over the plan.” Masters said in a low voice. “Each of us carry out
our part, and we all should be good.”
S'Kor unsnapped the button that secured his tactical knife in place.
" Let's see what color these Holograms bleed."
Naci looked over at S’kor “Probably photonics all over the floor.”
Sean slapped the photon grenade in S’Kor’s hand.
S'Kor clutched the grenade in his hand and looked at Masters.
“You’re the slimmest here. You climb into the Jefferies tube.” Sean said,
“Up at the first, then right at the next, then left and then down two.”
" Aye Sir" S'Kor responded.
“You’re our signal.” Sean recanted the plan, “try to get as many of them in
the radius you can, drop it on their heads. Get back into cover.”
S'Kor was already backing away towards the entrance of the Jefferies tube.
" Understood Sir." S'Kor said as he grabbed the hatch and flipped it up.
“Give it a good 5-10 seconds after the blast then drop down and if there is
anything left, help us mop up.”
" You got it, Sir." S'Kor said , with a final look back at Masters as he
closed the hatch and began his journey.
“Naci, phaser?” Sean asked, indicating if his Marine leader wanted to use
the knife or the phaser, he held the phaser by the main housing and the
grip was pointed to Naci.
Naci looked at Maters and shook his head.
“I prefer to use my knife sir.”
“Don’t say I never gave you a chance to shine.” Sean said with a grin.
Practiced ease allowed Sean to flip the phaser around so that he was
grabbing it to properly shoot. He checked the setting. ~Heavy stun, wide.~
“I do not need a phaser to shine Sir.” Naci said.
“I’ll make sure to write that in the letter to your next of kin.” Sean
teased him with a grin.
S'Kor had quickly made his way into position. Closing his eyes and numbing
his other senses ,he allowed his mind's telepathic abilities to focus on
the positions of his teammates, sensing where they were. S'Kor opened his
eyes and glanced at the area he thought would be best to drop the grenade.
He would wait for them to pass the positions of his teammates, then he
would throw his knife ahead of the hostiles, causing them to stop and
potentially cluster up. It was a tactic he had used time and time again as
a sniper. By the time they were clustered up the grenade would already be
airborne. S'Kor waited for his chance.
Sean drew his own knife and settled it into a reverse grip in his off hand,
his dominant hand gripped the phaser nearly white-knuckling it with nervous
energy as his adrenaline kicked in. He found some cover to crouch behind,
which was really just kneeling behind a corner, but better than nothing.
Naci settled into his position and drew the knife from his sheath. Taking a
few deep calming breaths a slight smile crept across his face before he
controlled it.
The main doors of engineering were breached. When they doors opened, the
hostiles filed in and took a sweeping position along the perimeter.
Masters held his position. His slightly pointed ears picking up the
stomping of boots from around the corner. ~Big group, ten at most.~ He
thought.
Naci paused not moving a muscle as he heard the enemy move closer.
~Well it's not supposed to be easy. Train hard fight easy as the old
General use to say~
Four of them moved past Masters' position and the other four had moved past
Tendees position. S'Kor took his knife and tossed it up in the air ,
arching it across main engineering causing it to hit the wall and floor
about 3 meters ahead of the hostiles. Causing them to stop and hold their
position, but by that time the grenade was already airborne.
The grenade hit the ground , right in the center of four of the hostiles,
the loud and amazingly bright explosion causing those four hostiles to
become inactive and taken off the field of play.
Hearing the zap and seeing the flash around the corner, Sean could see the
four unconscious forms around the spent grenade to the right and none
passed it, he sprung out of his spot to the left and almost ran right into
one of the hostiles, sweeping with his long gun. Sean stepped into him and
out of the effective arc of the particle weapon. He brought his knife up
and down in between the plates in his armor, skipping off the equivalent of
the clavicle and into lung tissue. Sean used the knife handle to pull the
pirate closer, and swung his type II over the other shoulder and scanned
for his next target.
Naci rose and stepped out of his concealment right into the blind spot of
one of the enemy. He had not planned that but he took the opportunity. With
one quick movement he reached forward, grabbed the enemy’s face and pulled
back with one hand while he stabbed down into the now exposed neck. With a
quick pull his knife sliced through the neck severing the windpipe and main
arteries. The body dropped as he let it go and stepped forward towards the
next opponent.
Glancing down at a hostile who was trying to take cover to open fire. S'Kor
jumped over the railing from the upper level catching the ledge briefly
with his hand and dropped onto the shoulders of the hostile. S'Kor tightly
squeezed his legs around the neck of the enemy and in a single fluid motion
twisted the hostile to the ground and snapped his neck. S'Kor grabbed the
enemies phaser rifle and took aim at the four stunned hostiles from the
grenade attack. Quickly finishing them off for good with well placed shots
while they laid prone. Then took cover.
The hostile right behind Masters’ portable shield realizing what was
happening took his shot at Masters, hitting his friend in the back instead,
putting the shield out of his misery as their weapons were set to kill.
Sean took the opportunity and pressed the firing stud. The orange beam
struck the pirate in the entirety of his torso, Sean held the stud down,
the phaser outputted a continuous barrage of nadions.
Naci half heard the whine of the hand phaser as he stalked forward. He
stepped close to the nearest collapsed body and checked for signs of life.
The last thing they needed was for someone to play possum and kill everyone
with a grenade.
Only when his target crumpled to the ground did Sean release the firing
stud. He twisted his knife and his now corpse shield fell to the deck.
S'Kor watched as the Lieutenant Major's improvised shield hit the deck.
“Three sixty security.” Sean ordered the other two into pre planned
positions covering all entrances to the master systems display display
console.
S'Kor took his defensive position, his eyes sweeping the area.
Naci stepped to a bulkhead which gave him some protection but also a wider
field of view towards the back end of main engineering.
Sean sheathed his knife and switched his phaser to his off hand. He placed
his right hand on the biometric reader.
“Computer, this is Major Sean Masters.”
[Recognize: Masters, Sean T. Lieutenant Major.]
“Return control of Engineering to the bridge.”
[Acknowledged.]
“End simulation.” Masters ordered.
As the holodeck around them returned to its default setting Tyrek entered
the Holodeck.
" Nineteen seconds from the explosive onset of the encounter until the
termination of the last hostile." He smiled.
" Excellent display , all of you. " Tyrek said joyfully.
Sean allowed himself a prideful smile.
Naci nodded.
" The other team has successfully taken the bridge in twenty-one seconds.
Although their objective was different, they did superb, they however
didn't employ the use of a meat shield , an aerial takedown or a partial
decapitation. Well done." Tyrek said, he was proud of them.
"Shall I coordinate for quarters for the Marines, sir?" Masters asked.
" No need Major, your gear and personal effects are being moved to the
assigned quarters on Deck 15. You may also make use of the Exeter's
amenities, Welcome to the crew, each of you…" Tyrek nodded with a smile and
made his exit.
