(USS Exeter –Broken Bow – Rear section- COO LTjg Paul Sleeford 04:14)

Paul lay there waiting for the next blow of the spanner, his left arm numb from the first impact, hearing movement from the front of the ship, he watched as his attacker smiled slightly and seemed to fade into the shadows, shaking his head he blinked a few times to clear the tears, taking a deep breath and focusing on the person in front of him.

“Are you okay.”

Seeing Lieutenant Williams standing over him Paul frowned, shaking his head he pulled himself painfully into a sitting position.

“ I …I”, Paul paused logic demanded that the three of them where the only ones on the runabout. Yet someone or something the struck him. Trying again he gave a half smile.

“ I’m ok, I think I tripped over sleeping beauty’s legs. I now owe the CFO a drink for damaging a shuttle and the CTO for a negligent discharge.” 

“Come on let’s get you off the floor and out of here.”

Nodding Paul pulled himself up, wincing as the pain in his shoulder took that moment to let him know he’d been injured. Following Ire back to the cockpit, Paul had the eerie sensation of being watched, glancing back over his shoulder, for an instant he thought he saw someone cross the narrow corridor, going from one crew room to the other. Shaking his head Paul slumped into the co pilots seat.

“Must of cracked my skull harder then I thought. So what ever he damaged has been repaired, the maintenance men in the bay would laugh at it but we’re up and and running. We can move, we can fight our way out of trouble if we need to. Comms is another matter, every diagnostic I’ve tried says they work fine, we just can’t call out”

Paul shrugged his shoulders and instantly regretted it.

“ As far as I can tell we have an outgoing carrier wave, just no signal to go with it. It’s like something is stopping the signal getting out, I can run a level one diagnostic on the system, it will take a while.”
