(USS Exeter - Holodeck 3 - CSO Lt JG Erin Cortez - 0040)



"Now then, I told you, I am playing for keeps."



Rage, that was the only word for it. Absolute and complete rage. This woman
before her had killed Nix, Clarke and now had broken one of her friends,
someone who had gone to bat for her before and she was done.



"Hmmm, I have an idea, lets make things more fun. Lt. Cortez, oh Lt.
Cortez, always the victim, never the bridge and peg leg Paul Sleeford, do
you want to play?"



Erin didn’t answer, simply fixed “Maxine” with a stare.



(reply Sleeford)



"I know, how bout, Erin, you pick for Paul and Paul picks for Erin. If you
say truth, the other has to answer a question truthfully, but if you say
death, then the other person has to face a death trap. So what will it be.
Truth or Death?"



“No.”



(Reply Maxine)



Erin stood, her whole being was shaking as she looked the woman in the eyes
and said, “You heard me. No.”



(Reply Maxine)



Erin laughed softly, “You don’t seem to understand what i said. I said NO!”
she yelled, looking at the woman with utter contempt as she continued,
“You…. you think that this scares me? That this whole situation is bad? I
refuse to choose. I will not choose for one of my friends, my colleague. I
will not make a choice that will have long lasting effects on him.” she
paused for a moment as she glanced at Sleeford and the others.



“You ….. Think that you know me, think that because i have cracked before
that you can do it to me again? NO! I will not choose and i will not have a
colleague choose something for me. My choice, my life.  You have no power
over me. You are the weak one here. So, go ahead. Do whatever you wish to
me. You have no hold on me. SO DO IT!” she screamed, taking several deep
breaths and feeling the pain in her palms as her nails dug into them.
