Mission: A new day dawns
Day: 3
Stardate: 2446.01.30
(USS Exeter, Main Shuttlebay - Chief SCE, Vice Admiral Frolless jav Pros &
2O/CEO, Lt. Cmdr. Keira Merek - 1307)
"AT EASE!" the admiral bellowed. His eyes scanned the cavernous space. His
gaze settled on a tall woman with pointed ears, two gold pips and one black
on her collar. ~The Romulan, the one that stayed anyway.~ "Merek, is it?"
"Yes, sir." Keira answered.
"Where's Williams, your CO?" The shorter Tellarite asked as he approached.
~He's testing me, trying to find a weakness he can jump on.~ "On leave,
Admiral." Keira answered simply.
Admiral Pros wasn't satisfied. "A Flag Officer inspection and the CO isn't
aboard?"
~He's trying to start an argument, if I remember from the Federation
culture briefings, not only is it OK it's encouraged.~ Keira thought during
a long pause.
"Well, Commander?" Pros asked, impatiently.
"That's right sir, he's on leave. What did you expect? We just got back
from the Andromeda galaxy. We didn't even know *if *we would make it back.
This inspection didn't come through the proper channels, you just decided
you were going to show up. Don't get me wrong, we're happy to have you, but
if you don't make all the proper arrangements, you get what you get." Keira
said boldly.
"You get what you get?" The Admiral repeated.
"Yes, sir." Keira confirmed.
"HA HA HA HA!" The Admiral chuckled, "I like you Commander. I might keep
you around."
Keira's eyes widened. ~By Odin, that worked? How far can this go?~
"Keeping me around to reach the top shelves?" Keira joked.
"What?" Frolless snapped.
"You know, cuz you're short?" Keira explained meekly.
"No more short jokes, and we'll get along better." Frolless said, it seemed
Keira had found a sore spot.
"Understood." Keira said after clearing her throat.
"Do you know what it's like having damn near everyone taller than you?" The
Admiral asked.
"Around here? Yes, the First Officer Commander Bracken is at least five
centimeters taller than me, Trip is around ten centimeters taller, even
back on Mars, Commodore Remae is also taller." Keira empathized.
"Speaking of Brackens, I was hoping to get to speak with your First
Officer. I served with her mother a while back. She patched me up after a
tough scrape."
"She's on sabbatical." Keira answered simply.
"You're kidding, right?" Frolless asked.
Keira shrugged, " You get what you get."
"It seems so," the admiral said with a grin. "Where's this train headed
first?"
"The bridge, sir." Keira answered. "A top down approach ensures we don't
miss anything."
Frolless looked to his right at the twin formations. "Don't you people have
jobs to do? Well, snap to it. Dismissed!"
"Lead the way Commander."
