(Earth, Home of Trip and Ashlyn Williams, aCTO Ensign sg Jori, 1845)
After spending time playing with the dog, who Jori found to be fun and friendly, despite its rude intrusion in her personal space, and some casual chatting with crew as they arrived, it was time for her to find Captain Williams and pay her respects. Joining him in the back as he tended the smoker and grill, she cheerfully greeted him.
"I'm sure you've already been given a report on the details, sir, but I wanted to tell you about my time before Admiral Williams.
"The short version is, I'm still in Starfleet, though for a moment, I thought he was going to expel me. I did get a formal reprimand and I'm required to choose a senior officer to be a mentor."
Jori couldn't help adding just a hint of disdain in her voice as she spoke that last word.
"The admiral considered ending the monthly games, but I pleaded with him to let them continue. I guess there was already some resentment brewing between teams and I was the catalyst that set it off, but I felt future cadets shouldn't be penalized. In the end, he said going forward, only cadets can play in the games. My soaring career on the diamond has come to an end. I guess there's always the holodeck."
Jori knew it was unlikely she would play again anyway, as serving on a starship meant few, or even no trips to Earth, but it would have been nice to have that option.
"There was one last thing the admiral told me. He said if he ever heard I was anywhere near a cadet game, he would make sure I spent the rest of my Starfleet career serving on a post in the ass-end of the alpha quadrant. I don't know where that is, but I don't want to go there."
After a few moments, Jori reached into her bag.
"I have something for you. It's the ball I hit Josh with. I even autographed it."
Smiling, she pointed to her name.
"Someone told me, in fifty years, a collector might pay a bar of latinum for it."
Jori chuckled and handed Captain Williams the ball.
