Mission: A new day dawns
Day: 2
Stardate: 2446.01.29
(Starfleet Aeronautics - Admirals Office - AeroDir Vice Admiral Dale
Bracken and Lt(jg) Heinrich Kruze -1430)
Dale looked across the desk having placed the two PADDs on her desk with a
sigh.
“My apologies Doctor, that this is necessary. You will see sitting off to
my left is Commander T’Ral, he is only present to make sure your rights are
not infringed upon and that I do not unduly threaten or cajole you into
making false statement or testament. If you have an objection to him, I can
go outside and bodily drag the next officer of rank of your choosing;
should that be your choice I will not hold that in any way against you.
This is a simple interview to take a statement as to ascertain the facts
regarding the events that you were present for. Your standing as a Doctor
is not in any way in Question. Do you have anything to say or ask before we
begin Doctor.”
Heinrich was annoyed that all this was necessary, and he could not erase
that annoyance from his face. “I do have one question, how long will this
take?”
“Not long at all. I appreciate your position more than you understand
Doctor. I’m certain that you know who I am, and who my daughter and
granddaughter are, so that gives me a greater insight than you can imagine,
and if you’re cross with me, imagine what the Fleet Surgeon General is
going to say to me later, when she finds out that I’ve pulled you off duty.”
While Heinrich frequently didn’t know what to do with compliments he always
treasured them as in a vault. And he remembered when Ailynn relayed the
Surgeon General’s high praise. The Vice Admiral’s remarks put him at ease.
“Alright, as long as it takes no time.”
“No time at all.” She nodded. “Now…build up to the game. Tell me about any
atmosphere that you felt. I know how these things can fly”
Heinrich cleared his throat. “I love the game of baseball.” He said. “But
my knee makes me more of a liability on the field these days. So I arranged
to make myself the attending physician. I got some refreshments and figured
I’d have a first row seat to a good game.”
“Hoping for an easy quiet ‘friendly’’ Dale mused out loud.
“No it didn’t turn out that way.” He admitted. “But I didn’t sense any
hostility before the first pitch.”
“I only ask as I’m aware of rivalries, This wasn’t the Sharks and the Jets
for instance, or, and you should excuse my historical reference, the Bloods
and the Crips.”
“No, not at all.” He said. “I didn’t notice any of the sort. And I’m
particularly sensitive to such crowd spirits.”
Dale nodded, her mind relaxing into the thrain of her thought. “So the game
begins. What were your thoughts. Assume I know nothing of baseball.”
“Well, I had some peanuts and crackerjacks and I was singing ‘Take Me Out
to the Ballgame’. It’s, uh, an old earth song…”
Dale laughed warmly. “I remember it. It’s been a long time though.”
“Sorry. I was just really in the mood ready for the game to begin.”
“So the first play is starting. The crowd are loud and playful. Pitcher is
up. What next?” Dale actually like these moments, it suited her brain, like
most of her family she loved science, and logic, and liked events in their
proper order.
“I was drinking some pop when I saw the pitcher throw the ball straight at
the batter’s head.”
“Okay…” Dale nodded, making a note.
“And that’s when the fight broke out. The batter started jaw jacking ensign
Jori, approached, and she threw him to the ground. And all hell broke
loose. If you can pardon the expression.”
“No offense taken Doctor, you are to speak freely.” she drew a breath.
“Wind back. And please take care on this answer. Are you able to speak with
authority regarding intent?”
“Intent?”
“I’m asking if it was a…I believe the term could be a loosener, you know,
to wrong foot a batter. Not exactly cheating, but not really in the spirit
of things?”
“I’m no Vulcan ma’am, I’d never want to speak definitively to intent.” He
said. “But I’ve seen the ensign in action. I think she can target a ball.
If she hit the forehead I’d assume she wanted to hit the forehead.”
Dale nodded. “So, intent aside, the batter was struck, and then what?”
“I already told you,” Heinrich said, getting frustrated, “He started
jawjacking, approached the pitcher, and she threw him. How much longer is
this going to take?”
“Not much more. I assure you. Did you hear the words uttered as he
responded? And I need to urge caution as you reply. Bearing in mind I have
heard directional audio.”
“Truthfully, I didn’t hear a thing, the crowd was so hot.” He admitted.
“Summing up, it could then have been one of two scenarios. One, the pitcher
made an aggressive toss, to worry a new batter, the batter didn’t like it
so he kicked off and threw her down. Two. It was on purpose, she intended
to hit him, and then he took objection, and threw her down?”
“Yes. And, regardless of why it went down it is my responsibility to care
for the both of them and anyone else involved in the fracas. So is that
all?”
“Just one more thing.” Dale added. “Why is it do you think that the Senior
Officers in the crowd were able to access the pitch? Shouldn’t the site
security have locked it down and called security themselves?”
“You would have to ask them. I saw them running by me trying to break up
the fight. I couldn’t speak to their thought process. As for what they
should or should not have done, I’m a doctor not a security specialist.”
Dale nodded, and made more notes. “Thank you Doctor. You are free to go,
but please bear in mind there may be follow ups. That can be done by
communicator should you see fit.” she smiled and stood up, holding out her
hand. You have my apologies Doctor. Dismissed.”
“Good, thank you for keeping this short. I’m, of course, happy to help as
much as I can.” Heinrich shook the Vice Admiral’s hand, arose, and gave her
a salute. As he walked to the door, he realized he didn’t know his way
around aeronatics.
“Uh, how do I get out again?”
