Mission: A new day dawns
Day: 1
Stardate: 2446.01.28
(Mars Facility - Shooting Range and Obstacle Course - 2O/CEO, Lt. Cmdr.
Keira Merek - 1010)
"From a power perspective, there is no difference. They are essentially the
same as the previous design. Doesn't shoot faster, doesn't have a greater
power load, so really on that perspective it is a wash."
"A shame." Keira frowned. "I had hoped for at least a more efficient power
output."
"But the design is wonderful. As a quick draw, I love it. You need to make
sure that your settings are where you want it, but I can easily adjust the
setting from stun to max with my thumb while not removing my finger from
the trigger. It's not the prettiest, but it definitely is more user
friendly, in my opinion."
"So at least one non-cosmetic improvement." she said. "Any chance these
will be fielded soon?"
"I don't know when they will be widespread as for use on board the ships.
but I'm glad Starfleet is looking at weapon design again." Troy then took
both phasers from their holsters and then handed them towards Keira. "want
a go?"
"Sure," she said, grabbing the pistol on her right. "What do you need two
for?"
(Reply McCoy)
"Alright. I'll try it your way. For the novelty." she said, grabbing the
second with her left hand. She pointed both pistols toward the deck,
and pronated her wrists to check the placement of the thumb for adjusting
the strength of the weapon output. She ensured they were on the lowest
setting,

She toed-up to the line to enter the holographic course. She pointed both
pistols down until given the signal to start. "Sweep and clear, just the
short course, not the full 40 targets." Keira instructed. The technician
running the simulation nodded and made the changes.
"3...2...1. begin!" The announcer stated then a buzzer sounded and a clock
started. Keira wasted no time and sprinted forward to the first point of
cover. Before she could make it, two holographic aggressors came around the
corner. She dived into the cover before simulated fire began zooming
towards her.
Since the fire was happening at about her shoulder level if she were
standing, she popped out behind the cover around the side instead of the
top. The right one she tagged center mass, the left one she hit a leg
requiring a follow up shot, before it too disappeared and registered the
points. ~That's 2, 13 more to go~
She pushed up from the deck and curled her legs under and pushed off
rushing forward in another sprint as she continued the course.

Keira was down to the last two. Since she had taken out large swaths of
previous targets by flanking, the AI would be allowed to use that tactic as
well and adapt to Keira's strategy. Her aim was improving with the left
side, still nowhere near equal to the right, however. She was searching for
her next target and saw a heel go around a corner to the right. As she
moved to pursue, she heard footsteps to her left. ~A pinch maneuver.~
She stepped up to the hologram coming from the left making a shot from the
rifle impossible, her left arm swung out and the barrel of the pistol
struck the left attacker in the face, with a loud and resounding CRACK! The
image's head rocked to the side as the hologram disappeared.
[Foul, time penalty added.] cried the computer over the systems audio
output. As the final attacker came around the loop of corridor, Keira
leveled her right pistol and fired. The beam struck center mass and the
hologram disappeared.
[Simulation Ended.]
Keira walked out, flipped both the pistols handles first and handed them to
McCoy. "Found a good use for your second pistol Lieutenant."

revenge when those we love are taken from us, but that's not who we are." -
