The officer removed his hand from the phaser and extended it. "Lieutenant
Troy McCoy, and as of 0800 hours this morning, Assistant Chief Tactical
Officer on the USS Exeter."

Troy took Merek's hand and shook it.

"Interesting. What a crazy random happenstance," she said, while thinking:

"Commander, I know y'all have been through hell. But you need to be careful
about the way you move your fingers. You might be able to get away with it
depending on the officer, but most of us that make up security on Mars,
especially after the Dulon incident from a few years back, well, they train
us to be keen observers and quick draws. I know an offensive posture when I
see one. I hope I wasn't out of line sir, but had you attempted to strike
me, I would have fired to stun you. We all have our training, and that's
mine."

"Lieutenant, you would have had every right to do so." Keira admitted. " I
can't fault you for defending yourself. Lucky for me I had a modicum of
restraint."

"I've been lucky enough a few times in the recent past where fist beat the
phaser, it took a lot of set up and honestly depends on the situation. I
wouldn't want to tempt my luck again. Waking up staring at the ceiling in
sickbay is not on my list of things to do."

"So what *do* you think about these prototype phasers?" Keira asked.
