(USS Exeter - Ready Room -CMO Lieutenant JG Heinrich Kruze - 1102)

Heinrich walked nervously into the Captain’s Ready Room. It had been almost a month since the last mission, and there was still much he hadn’t gotten over. Much he thought he could have done better. He wasn’t looking forward to meeting the man who’s daughter he nearly failed.

"Doctor, come in, have a seat." Trip said as Heinrich entered his office. Heinrich nodded and sat down.

"Doc, you've done a heck of a job keeping people up and running. I'm impressed.”

Heinrich was not the type who could take complements. “Uh, thank you, sir.”

"So impressed that you are being promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade." Trip said as he handed the doctor his new rank pip.

Heinrich took the pip, not sure what to think or what to say. “Wow, I… thank you.”

"I'm sure you've heard that Dr. Vesper has transferred to the USS Nathan James.”

“Yes.” 

"Well given that, and your work of late, I'm naming you as the new Chief Medical Officer.”

Heinrich was stunned, and had nothing to say.

"Anyways, with that being said, Doc, how ya holding up?”

“Well, truth be told, it’s been tough.”

“And, I thank you for all of this, but I’m not so sure I deserve to be Chief Medical Officer. If it weren’t for my incompetence your daughter…”
