Mission: A new day dawns
Day: 1
Stardate: 2446.01.28
(USS Exeter - Deck 2 - Na'Rel personal quarters-SOC/3O Lieutenant Commander
Tyrek Na'Rel -1830)
After meeting with the captain, Tyrek went straight to his assigned
quarters. They were adequate for his needs, more than adequate to be
honest.
" The rumors were true ." Tyrek said as he sat down and bounced a few times
on the sofa in the living room section of his quarters.
Lieutenant Steward turned to him.
" What rumors?" She asked.
" The rumors of how comfortable quarters were on starfleet ships. I thought
klingons were just, being well...klingons when they spoke of the comfort on
these ships. I guess they were right." Tyrek said to Lieutenant Steward.
" Well I guess we are just used to this, I mean we do have a highly diverse
society here in the Federation. We have tons of ideas for comfort to work
with from many worlds. " She responded and looked around.
" What's wrong Lieutenant?" Tyrek asked with concern.
" It's just that we are at the end of our time together. I enjoyed working
with you. I must admit I was reluctant at first. " Lieutenant Steward
claimed.
He looked up at her as she stood on the other side of the room, leaning
against the wall.
" Reluctant? How so ?"
She laughed.
" You have to admit when you first arrived on Earth wearing your full blown
Romulan regalia, sash , pendants , the cloth of your family draped on your
shoulder. You looked like you were here to conquer, not work with us."
Tyrek laughed slightly.
" So I was too overdressed for the occasion?"
" Overdressed is an understatement commander" She paused and stared at him.
" You just really surprised me, that is all."
He looked at her and gave her a look like he wanted her to explain herself.
" Go on"
Lieutenant Steward walked over and sat down on the sofa next to him.
" I wasn't expecting you to let go of so much of everything you were
accustomed to. Your willingness to comply with everything the exchange
program has demanded of you thus far has been nothing short of remarkable.
"
Tyrek looked across the room, staring at nothing in particular.
" This exchange program means alot to me and whether they know it or not,
this program has the best interest for billions of lives at its heart. So I
am compelled to take this endeavor seriously. If we can show the
Federation and our starfleet counterparts that we can work together and we
lay this important foundation. The benefits would outweigh centuries of
hostile relations.
Imagine Terran families vacationing on New Romulus and being completely
welcomed with open arms and being completely at ease in their
surroundings...or perhaps even a Romulan or a Reman as president of the
Federation without anyone feeling indifference or prejudice towards that. "
Tyrek smiled and nodded his " I know it's far away , but I can see it in my
mind. It's not a fantasy. It could really happen. "
Lieutenant Steward smiled softly.
" You certainly sound like a dreamer."
" Is it so wrong to dream such a dream ? Is it too ambitious to imagine
Romulan, Terran, bajoran, cardassian, betazoid and klingon children playing
together and not knowing they were any different ? Just existing in a place
that was built to be better just for them. That single image is enough for
me to want to give this everything I have." Tyrek said as he looked at her.
She smiled.
" No Vulcan children in this dream of yours?"
" Yes but the Vulcan child is off to the side trying to understand the
logic of the games being played by other children." Tyrek said with a
laugh.
Lieutenant Steward looked at the time.
" Look, I have to get going. Contact me tomorrow if you need anything. "
Tyrek stood up , offering his hand to her. She took his hand and stood up.
" Take care Lieutenant and thank you for helping me set up my quarters. "
She looked around at the space around them , placing her hands on her hips.
" It needed a woman's touch."
Tyrek pointed to the fish tank on the shelf next to the couch inside was a
blue betta fish.
" Wanna take your friend with you ?"
" No, he's your pet. I got him for you." She remarked
" Fish are terrible pets. " He joked as he walked her to the door.
" Goodnight Lieutenant Commander Na'Rel " She smirked. "
" And Goodnight to you as well Lieutenant Steward " He replied and reached
his hand out for a handshake. She looked down at his hand and shook it and
then walked out the door.
Tyrek turned around and walked back to the bedroom portion of his quarters
and turned on a tower shaped machine next to his bed, allowing it to power
up as he attached circular node-like devices to his right temple and back
of his neck. He rolled his right sleeve up, exposing a small port-like
device in his arm and plugged a wire from the machine directly into it.
He then sat on the bed and laid back as a blue pulse emanated from the grey
1 meter tall device next to his bed. He closed his eyes as the process of
the machine began.
