Mission: The Flames of Purity

Day: 16

Stardate: 2445.09.16

Ensign Sg. Zot– 1113)

"Zot, we may need you to take down the generator quickly and safely. Whilst
I would like to just blow the thing sky high, we have no way of telling
what it will do if we do that."

Zot looked directly at her. " I can deactivate the system once I have
access to the mainframe. It should take less than a few minutes. "

 Erin took a breath,

"Then, I'll go. I can get the emitter offline. You stay with Lieutenant
Merek and follow her orders."

“Your theory is sound. Prepare your plan. We’ll move when you are ready.”
Lieutenant Merek said to the chief science officer. Zot was waiting
patiently for his chance to prove himself a valuable asset. Spending the
past 15 days in the computer, this was a huge change of pace.

“Once the plan is executed, I will move forward while the remaining two of
you cover me from here. Once I’ve established cover for myself and started
distracting the enemy with my own fire from cover, you three will advance
to cover, and return fire as you are comfortable and able. Everyone ready?”
The away team leader asked.

"Ready as I will ever be. I never thought that survival and evasion
training would come in useful this soon." Responded the Science officer

 " Ready Sir" Zot said.

Zot watched as Cortez made her way around the ridge. Suddenly Lieutenant
Merek started engaging enemy cultist Zot raised his phaser, the feeling of
betraying his people's way of life flooded through his body. He wasn't
afraid or frozen. Eunepians didn't use weapons. It wasn't in their nature.
He took aim at one of the cultist who was aiming towards Lieutenant Merek
and he fired the phaser, striking the cultist and dropping him. Almost
instantly Zot dropped the phaser from his hand, looking at his now empty
hand Zot felt a flood of emotions he'd never felt before ~ I...I… am sorry
~

"Come on hot shot. Your turn. Lieutenant Merek, would you be so kind to
cover our asses whilst we take out the generator?"

( reply Merek)

Zot looked at Cortez and headed her way. Still in shock that he fired a
weapon. " Hot...Shot…? it's Ensign Zot " he said following the science
officer.

Inside they reached Saturn in the corridor when the Lieutenant signaled him
to stop.

" On cry left" she whispered. ~ one cry left? No no she said one guy left~

He nodded his head in acknowledgment.

"I don't want to shoot him if I don't need to. But…"

He looked at her. " I dropped my phaser …" He said, admitting his lack of a
weapon.

"We need to get to that console." Cortez said as she motioned for Zot to
stay still and wait. " Be careful " He warned.

As he waited he could hear her conversing with the cultist. Then a series
of phaser fire. Zot grabbed both sides of his head and crouched down.
Trembling ,he was so afraid she was gone.

"Zot?" He heard her say. He looked up with relief

"Come on. Our friend here is out for the count." She said. He stood up and
walked around the corner and headed start to the computer terminal and laid
his backpack on side ledge of console, opening it up and removing a small
device with blue sight radiating from it. It was a splicing device, highly
regulated by the federation, usually used by program engineers and
intelligence operations to snapshot interface transfers and coding streams
of the hacked device , these snapshots allowed the device to record an
abundance of data without actually downloading any of the data files from
the actual device. Therefore making it able to store a massive amount of
information from multiple computers.

He accessed the terminal which wasn't locked and started diving into the
hard commands of the programs he was interacting with forcing them to
comply with his interactions. His hands danced across the tactile interface
keys like a virtuoso pianist performing ascending and descending arpeggio
sweeps through the various musical keys.

"How's it coming, Ensign?"

" I have accessed the higher ESI coding of the isolinear storage bit. I am
preparing to render the system inoperative...killing it." He responded as
he worked.

"Excellent. If you can, just power it off. That's all we need to happen.
Download any information you think of relevant and turn the damn machine
off."

" Patience Lieutenant. Rushing such things can activate a unknown fail
safe that will shut my entry down and leave us without access" He said as
finished typing and looked at her. " Done"

After a moment, the whirring of the machinery that they were stood next to
began to lower its pitch. Not a second after that, the lights in the
building flickered as they plunged into darkness.

"Zot… you did it!"

" They had another backup power supply I have wiped out all potential for
another power start up. Every computer on this planet was tied to the same
Network. After wiping their memories and operational functionally I
disseminated and destroyed the network."

"We can find our way out in the dark. I ate a lot of carrots as a kid."

" Do carrots help with eyesight in low lighting ?" He asked as his black
eyes turned slightly hazy white at the center, that change would only be
noticeable by others if the lighting was still at normal levels but in
darkness the change was not noticeable by others. This subtle changed in
eye structure allowed Eunepians to see in extreme low lighting.

"Never mind. Terran story for another time." She remarked.

" I would love to hear it" he said packing up his gear and holding his arm
out to her so he could help her through the darkness.

Tapping her combadge, Erin spoke with a smile,"Cortez to Merek…."
