(USS Illuminar - Deck 1 - Bridge - CO, Captain Sekal - 1208)

Red tells blinked from a number of panels due to once again traversing the Maelstrom. Sekal
should have been satisfied that his officers and crew had been returned to the prime Universe
but he was not. Logic not withstanding the loss of his Chief Science Officer within the mirror
universe he found ... distasteful. Jaton Alyl's death had been witnessed and logged. Illuminar
had not been there in time to save him.
There was something else that was not logical, the assertion of those recovered as well as
some others taken aboard the Rhyne of Chief Lee's disappearance. When pressed they insisted
he had been Chief of Security but Illuminar had had only three in its history. Sarsgaard had been
transferred to Mars soon after it had launched, Davenport had filled that role until his death and
Lieutenant T'Mur had been next in line. T'Mur had been Chief of Security for nearly a year now.
This was too widespread among too many to be passed off as a hallucination due to the area of
space here or the Maelstrom itself. Who was Lieutenant Keung Lee and why did so many
remember him? The only way to investigate further would be through a mind meld but he would
ask none to go through such to satisfy his curiosity. It would remain a mystery.

Lieutenant Comnander Gregory had been recently injured and was being attended to.
Commander Sienna Verin was still gaining weight and strength. The rescue mission had been
hard on all and Illuminar needed time to recover. The ship was 2 AU currently from the anomaly
taking readings in preparation for its closing.

"Has StarFleet been notified of our return?"

"Reply coming in now sir."

"On screen."

The viewscreen snapped crisply to the face and upper body of Admiral Jericho Haynes of
StarFleet Tactical.

=^= Welcome home Illuminar. You are six days late in reporting in.=^=

An eyebrow lifted. "The anomaly has had time dilation effects Admiral, according to our
chronometers we are only two days late."

Jack's face broke a bit with a slip of his lip indicating a pleased emotion.

=^= Well at least you are back in contact. How is your ship.? =^=

"My Chief Science Officer is being returned for internment and will need to be replaced.
Commander Verin and Lieutenant Commander Gregory are recuperating with my first officer
slowly returning to form. Lieutenant Commander Solice performed with distinction during her
absence. Illuminar will require minor repair during our return however is intact."

Jack nodded gravely. "You and the crew missed some important festivities. Trill has just rejoined
the Federation and the Republic is due to arrive at sector 001 at any time.=^= He consulted his
monitor then looked up. =^= Illiminar is to be in Sector 001 in ten days time for a debriefing and
mission brief at Fleet Headquarters for your next assignment. Don't be late. =^=

"Understood."

Haynes' face then broke a bit more. =^= Once again welcome home. StarFleet Command out.
=^=

"The warhead is ready Captain."
His eyes returned to the anomaly which was once again on screen. "Fire when ready." His voice
carried through the bridge bringing smiles to some faces. The Maestrom had proven a stalwart
enemy.

Within seconds there was a bright flare from its center which spread out to encompass its
entirety as the gold shifted to red then orange before fading completely away.

"Status?"

"Energy readings and interference subsiding Captain." There was a pregnant pause. "Space is
returning to normal."

He didn't move but merely nodded. "Helm, how long to Earth at subspace hyperwarp?"

"Six days Captain."

"Lay in a course for Vulcan at Hyperwarp, we will divert there for three days."

"Aye sir, course laid in."

"Engage."

At the rising hum of the engines he tapped a button.

"Captain's log..." he paused to check the correct stardate. "...stardate twenty four, fourty six,
zero three, thirteen. The ship has returned to the Prime Universe due in large part to the
services of Lieutenant Bohb and scientists Penn and Teller, the device they constructed
dampened the turbulence of the Maelstrom and facilitated our passage through. Citations to be
issued to Lieutenant Jaton Alyl posthumously for his service to the ship and crew, Lieutenant
Commander Solice for excellence in the performance of her duty and for all those aboard the
Rhyne and Illuminar without whose efforts we would not have been successful. The Maelstrom
has been closed thanks to the equations given to us by the alter universe Sienna Verin who will
be accompanying us to Mars."

He paused for a moment. "Lieutenant Alyl to be returned to Trill for burial which is once again a
Federation member. We will be diverting to Vulcan for 3 days before returning to sector 001 as
per orders from StarFleet Command. End log."

He glanced forward to see the effects of the hyperwarp tunnel displayed on the screen.

The Maelstrom would not be missed.

"Lieutenant Commander Solice you have the bridge."

He stood up and nodded to her then moved to the Ready Room, there were preparations to be
made.

(USS Illuminar - Deck 1 - Ready Room - CO, Captain Sekal - 1215)

His office seemed brighter than usual today, he squinted as he walked in. "Luma reduce the
lighting level to seventy percent."

"A Captain's office should be light and airy. You keep it so stuffy and dreary." The voice sounded
almost ... pouty.

Sekal spun toward his desk to see a familiar form planted in the chair with legs crossed and feet
upon the desktop.

"Q."

"Guilty." The mercurial being lifted his hands slightly as he shrugged. "Come to welcome you
back to your dreary reality "

Ignoring the being was impossible no matter the temptation so he advanced on him instead.
"You are not welcome on my ship and your interference will no longer be tolerated."

Q's brows lifted in surprise. "Ooh! What did you find in the mirror reality that's made you so ...
aggressive mon ami? Though I must admit such hostility suits you. We're I so inclined I might
find you imposing."

Q's eyes followed him as he stopped at the desk, planted his palms on it and leaned forward.

"Remove your feet from my desk."

He smirked but did so and rose to his feet. "It would appear you are not in a good humour today.
Is the loss of the little worm eating at you?"

Sekal moved around it until he stood face to face with him, his visage was stony.

"Are you going to strike me Captain? I would find that hilarious, such a display of emotion from a
Vulcan."

"No. I will merely say that your petty games, sarcasm and delusional attempts to play God on
my ship and among my crew are not befitting of a highly evolved being. You use your abilities
with contempt for those who are operating under my orders and all those whom you consider
beneath you. You are not worthy of having such power."

Q's eyes lit up with delight. "Such pointed and insulting words, the mirror universe did you some
good I see. I'm almost tempted to bring your opposite over and compare you." He leaned
forward conspiritorally.

Sekal's right hand shot out and grabbed his collar, pulling him in until he was face-to-face. "I am
attempting to express my disapproval in a way in which you will understand. I have been more
than patient with you, attempting to use logic which you twist and pervert to your own ends. That
has not been successful and you appear to feel yourself welcome on my ship. You are not."
Sekal found himself shoved back suddenly several feet, Q hadn't even moved. The being's face
had taken on a severe tone.

"I can tell when I'm not welcome and you've made that more than clear in the past Captain
however there is something you are not considering."

"And what is that?"

Q smirked again. "You need me."

"Why?"

"I was the one who warned your Admiral, oops, Commodore now Remae about Bajor. Without
my help this Universe would have unraveled."

"It also served your own ends."

He shrugged. "True, it did free up a lot of time for me and holding things together was onerous
but you WILL need me again in the future."

Sekal's mouth opened in a reply which he stifled. He realized that Q was giving him a veiled
warning, he also knew that pressing him now would be counter- productive as well as a waste of
his time so he kept his mouth shut. Q in the past had recoiled from violence, being rebuffed by
Captain Sisko had ended his interference at Deep Space Nine but he seemed almost
contemptuous of the threat here. Something had changed and the Vulcan was not ready to
accelerate the encounter. This experiment had ended with a resounding failure. "Then why are
you here?"

"Much better." Q moved around the opposite side of the desk which separated them further,
Sekal noted this and analyzed it. The being, despite not being cowed was also attempting to
defuse the situation.

"I'm here to welcome you back as I said, no more and no less."

"We are not friends."

"No we are not but we are allies."

"Illogical. You appear to view us as fodder for some cryptic experiment and sit in judgment over
our actions."

"For reasons you do not comprehend."

"You are correct. Your welcome has been noted."

"Then we are done here." Q lifted his right hand with fingers poised. "For now." Then snapped
them.

The bright flash then the lighting in the room returned to normal.
Sekal went to the replicator which had been his initial target upon entering the room and took
out a pitcher of water as well as a plate of nutritional squares which would do in lieu of lunch, it
would be a working meal today. He tapped his combadge after setting them on the desk and
moving to his seat."Outrider one to the Ready Room."

(USS Illuminar - Deck 1 - Ready Room - CO, Captain Sekal - 1225)

Sekal looked up as the chime sounded. "Come."

The door opened and the android entered, he was wearing a gold operations uniform with no
rank insignia. He moved to the chair the Captain indicated and sat down.

"Reporting as ordered sir."

"I understand you have taken a name since the last time we were in our own space/time."

"Yes sir. I suggested William since I am well acquainted with it but without the surname. The
command crew of the Rhyne seemed to take delight in calling me Bill however."

"William will be logged then as your name. As I understand it Bill as well as a number of other
apellations are derived from the name William."

"Yes sir, that is my understanding as well. Might I ask why you summoned me?"

"Yes." The Vulcan sat forward in his chair. "The reports on your behavior while on the Rhyne
were generally good however there was one incident which is concerning."

"I believe I am aware of the incident in question."

"Yes. You left the bridge during an emergency and commandeered a fighter to chase after a
suspect."

"I did sir."

"Why?" The tone of the question could not have been flatter.

William settled back in the chair and assumed a very human-like posture somewhere around
ill-at-ease. Sekal was aware that the android did not feel emotions though he could project their
content depending on the situation. At least that was the theory.

"There were a number of factors sir, the operations crew on duty was fully capable of re-exerting
control over ship functions and my task at that time was monitoring communications. I could
have done the task with more alacrity but was not called upon to assist. The Captain's Yacht
launched during the confusion making the conclusion inevitable that the condition was caused
by an attempted escape and before control could be re-established that attempt would have
been successful."
"You had no orders to leave the bridge or take one of the fighters." The Vulcan's face was
unreadable.

"No Sir, I made the decision that I had the best odds of overtaking the yacht which was
irreplaceable and bringing it back to the Rhyne."

"You acted without orders on your own initiative."

"Yes sir."

Sekal steepled his fingers. "By your actions a Civilian was rescued and the Yacht was returned
undamaged."

"Yes sir. I followed Mr. Weston's orders to the letter and would have done the same had those
orders not been issued."

"And should such a situation happen again?"

"Unlikely sir, there are many failsafes on Illuminar that would make such a situation difficult to
re-enact."

"If you were in a situation where Federation life or property was at risk and by your actions that
risk could be alleviated would you do the same despite the possibility of disciplinary action?"

"Yes sir."

Sekal stood to his feet and opened the desk drawer, removing a small black box.
"Mr. William please stand to your feet and step to the side."

As the android did so he opened the box and removed a black pip then stepped around the
desk.

"William a review of your actions has been undertaken and the questions satisfied. For
exemplary performance of your duties and your commitment to the ship and crew it is my honor
to bestow upon you the rank of Ensign. In wearing this pip you are entrusted with upholding the
principles of StarFleet and the Federation and are entitled to the rights and privileges thereof."

He pinned the pip to his collar then gave him the upturned hand of a Vulcan salute.

William stood stiffly at attention for a moment longer then nodded. "Thank you Captain. I will
serve StarFleet with all of my ability."

Sekal nodded. "You are dismissed Ensign."

He watched him leave the Ready Room then tapped his combadge. "Tegian Pex report to the
Ready Room."

(USS Illuminar - Deck 11 - Main Engineering - ACEO - Ensign Tegian Pex - 1235)

Tegian was in Main Engineering reviewing the damage from their return from the Mirror
Universe and trying to determine priorities of what needed to be fixed. Reports were still coming
in of minor things. So far, he'd seen nothing truly dangerous. The device had worked better
than expected.

=^=Tegian Pex report to the Ready Room.=^=

Tegian looked up from his PADD and around the room to make sure that he'd heard that right.
He hit his comm badge quickly. "Acknowledged, Captain. I will be there in a few minutes."

He looked around the room, didn't see Lieutenant Bohb in the room and said to one of the other
ensigns. "Please let the Lieutenant know that I've been summoned to the Captain's Ready
Room. I will be back shortly. In the meantime," Tegian tossed him the PADD, "begin working on
the items at the top of the list. Keep one person here, the rest of you tackle those. Draw lots;
play Rock, Paper Scissors, Lizard, Spock or find another means."

Tegian walked very quickly to the Turbo Lift from Main Engineering and took it to Deck 1 and
then across the bridge to the Captain's Ready Room. He hit the chime, awaiting permission to
enter.

(USS Illuminar - Deck 1 - Ready Room - CO, Captain Sekal, ACEO, Ensign Tegian Pex - 1238)

After hearing permission, Tegian entered the Captain's Ready room and stood at attention,
Pex's goto move when meeting those of higher rank in an unfamiliar situation. "Ensign Tegian
Pex, reporting as requested, Captain," offered Tegian in a calm, quiet voice.

(USS Illuminar - Deck 1 - Ready Room - CO, Captain Sekal - 1240)

The door chimed again, the tasks he had set for today would require quite a bit of time. Now
that they were back in the prime Universe and on their way to Federation space was the logical
time to do them.

"Come."

The door opened and the Trill entered.

"Ensign Tegian Pex, reporting as requested, Captain."

"At ease Mr. Pex, please have a seat." The CO gestured to the two Chairs before his desk .
(Reply: Pex)

As he sat down the Vulcan leaned forward. "Mr Pex you have not been with the ship long and
your assessment of the ship's engineering systems and maintenance program would be an
asset. Do you have any suggestions that should be considered?"

(Reply: Pex)

Sekal nodded. "The Illuminar is but the forerunner of redesigned ships and those being refitted
with the new engine technology. The senior officer in your department has extensive experience
in the fleet and has recognized your contributions."

(Reply: Pex)

The Vulcan leaned forward lightly on his elbows as he spoke. "Your work ethic and contributions
to the department have been duly noted and your assistance on the merchant ship was
invaluable. Though not a fleet ship you treated an ally and friendly party with your full attention
and ability. In reviewing your file I have come to the conclusion that your current rank is
insufficient."

Sekal stood to his feet and removed a small black box from it, opening the box he removed a
gold pip. "Mr Pex please rise."

(Reply: Pex)

"Mr. Pex it is my duty and honor to recognize those among my officers and crew who perform
with excellence, your promotion to full Ensign has been logged. As you progress further in rank
your security access and responsibilities will be expanded as you continue to uphold the highest
standards of Starfleet."

The Captain shook his hand. "Congratulations Ensign."

"At ease Mr. Pex, please have a seat."

The CO gestured to the two Chairs before his desk .

Tegian relaxed his stance and then took the left seat in front of the Captain's desk. "Thank you,
Captain."

As he sat down the Vulcan leaned forward. "Mr Pex you have not been with the ship long and
your assessment of the ship's engineering systems and maintenance program would be an
asset. Do you have any suggestions that should be considered?"
Tegian considered the question. "The Illuminar's systems are well above standard for Starfleet
and the maintenance program is very well thought out. The suggestions I have had have been
considered by Lieutenant Bohb and I have found him to be a superior mentor and officer. In the
short time I have been a crew member, I have been allowed to expand my experience way
beyond the theory that I learned on Trillius Prime."

Sekal nodded. "The Illuminar is but the forerunner of redesigned ships and those being refitted
with the new engine technology. The senior officer in your department has extensive experience
in the fleet and has recognized your contributions."

"That is most pleasing to hear. Lieutenant Bohb is a most capable officer and engineer,"
responded Tegian.

Tegian rose, surprised. A promotion, so soon?

He stepped around the desk, removed the blank pip and replaced it with the solid one then
stepped back. "Mr. Pex it is my duty and honor to recognize those among my officers and crew
who perform with excellence, your promotion to full Ensign has been logged. As you progress
further in rank your security access and responsibilities will be expanded as you continue to
uphold the highest standards of Starfleet."

After Ensign Pex had left the office he had taken a moment to have a drink of water and send a
message to Lieutenant Bohb before activating the comm again.

"Ensign T'shalaith to the Ready Room."

(Reply: T'shalaith)

At the chime he spoke. "Come" then motioned the Vulcan into the room. "Please take a seat."

(Reply: T'shalaith)
The CO leaned forward as he regarded her. "Ms. T'shalaith you have twice undertaken to run
the department in your chief's absence and have done a credible job. With the decease of
Lieutenant Alyl Science has no head and you will be tasked with overseeing it in the foreseeable
future. Your knowledge of your field and leadership in the department have been noted by
myself and your current rank is insufficient to cover your responsibilities and duties "

"It is my duty and honor to recognize those among the officers and crew who show commitment

He stepped around the desk as he removed a gold pip from the box.

"Your file shows that you have extensive experience in Research and Development therefore
you are hereby elevated to the position of Chief of Scientific Research and Development on
Illuminar. As Chief of R&D you will also be overseeing general sciences until such time as a new
Chief Science Officer is named."

He added the gold, full pip to the blank, empty pip on her collar creating the Lieutenant's row
then raised his hand in salute. "Congratulations Lieutenant T'shalaith."

(USS Illuminar - Deck 6 - ACSO Office - ACSO Ensign T'shalaith - 1251)

“Officer log.” She sat at her desk, contemplating her next words. Her superior officer was dead.
Lieutenant Jaton Alyl had died while in the mirror universe. The news had swept through the
ship and impacted each member of the crew differently. For her, it was another face she had
failed to get to know well enough. He had been injured when she had come on board and they
had spent little time with him until he’d stepped off the ship and vanished. “Our Chief Science
Officer fell in the line of duty.” She took a pause and thought about her next words, “Vulcans are
not emotionless. For myself, I have long pushed back against the needs to build bonds with
those around me. I did not see the benefit in my time in the Vulcan Expeditionary Force…or
within my recent Starfleet career. It is a matter of logic and rational thought to distance oneself
from such feelings and experiences.” She let out a sigh, “However, it is impossible to ignore the
sensation of loss that tugs at the end of my consciousness. By all accounts, including my own,
he was a good officer and a strong chief. There is risk in what we do in service to Starfleet or
even the VEF…it is a unique challenge to face death and the no-win scenario.” She paused the
recording and stepped away from her desk.

She was unsure if they would promote her to Chief. Her mixed results with relating to the crew
weren’t much if you applied a formula or two to the matter. When examined from a logical
perspective she was unsure what her future held onboard the Illuminar. She resumed the
recording, “There is something else. The one in the mirror universe sent me a message. She
called herself ‘The Rebel’. She expressed that someday she would like to meet me…to see
what came of me out here in this galaxy.” A pause as she sipped at a replicated drink of apple
juice, “I do not think this will ever be possible, even as fascinated as I am with the prospect of
studying such a thing. I am content within my universe, and the life I have just begun living.”
She finished off the juice and returned to her seat, “I have completed all reports and forwarded
them off to the various department heads and the captain. I am hopeful something we
discovered in our travels will assist in furthering something. End log.” The computer beeped
and chirped. T'shalaith sat back in her chair and returned her attention to the upcoming roster
schedules and shift placements. It took her quite some time until her communication badge
beeped, =^="Ensign T'shalaith to the Ready Room.=^=

“On my way, Captain.” She left the office and headed for the bridge.

(USS Illuminar - Deck 1 - Ready Room - ACSO Ensign T'shalaith - 1252)

She tapped the chime on the door. She heard his voice and the door opened as she stepped in.

Sekal gestured to the chair "Please take a seat." She accepted the seat.

“Reporting as ordered, Captain.” She wasn’t sure what would happen next.

"Ms. T'shalaith you have twice undertaken to run the department in your chief's absence and
have done a credible job. With the decease of Lieutenant Alyl Science has no head and you will
tasked with overseeing it in the foreseeable future. Your knowledge of your field and leadership
in the department have been noted by myself and your current rank is insufficient to cover your
responsibilities and duties. Ms. T'shalaith please rise."

The Vulcan science officer raised an eyebrow but stood belatedly and a bit awkwardly before
she straightened herself out both mentally and physically. She had made Chief?

"It is my duty and honor to recognize those among the officers and crew who show commitment
to Starfleet and excellence in the performance of their duties." He stepped around the desk as
he removed a gold pip from the box. "Your file shows that you have extensive experience in

He added the gold, full pip to the blank, empty pip on her collar creating the Lieutenant's row
then raised his hand in salute. "Congratulations Lieutenant T'shalaith."

T'shalaith was not normally speechless. She was now. She returned the salute smartly as her
mind quickly caught up with what was happening. She found her words, eventually. “Thank you
Captain Sekal. I am appreciative of your words and my elevated position.” She looked him in
the eye for a moment, “Permission to speak freely sir?”

(reply Sekal)

She nodded quietly, “You are aware of my service records and my past…experiences both on
assignment in the academy. It has been a concern of mine, fitting into this place, and with the
crew.” She shifts her hands behind her back, “Those concerns have slowly been allayed
through this mission, sir. I wanted to affirm my decision to remain onboard the Illuminar with
you. I have found some…meaning to my assignment here.”

“Thank you Captain Sekal. I am appreciative of your words and my elevated position.
Permission to speak freely sir?”

"Continue." Was his reply.

“You are aware of my service records and my past…experiences both on assignment and in
the academy. It has been a concern of mine, fitting into this place, and with the crew. Those
concerns have slowly been allayed through this mission, sir. I wanted to affirm my decision to
remain onboard the Illuminar with you. I have found some…meaning to my assignment here.”

"Excellent." He stepped back around the desk and returned to his seat, motioning her to do the
same. "Illuminar was constructed with an eye to the continuation of the assignment I had
received at Mars, including the installation of an office for the CSRD on Deck 6 of which you are
aware. Understand that accepting this assignment carries with it more responsibility than that of
the CSO. I will reveal that responsibility during this meeting, if you choose not to accept it then
you may decline and take the position of Chief Science Officer."

(Reply: T'shalaith)

Sekal always kept a second glass on the desk for those called to his office, the meetings were
routinely short and the second was rarely used, he filled that glass with water from the carafe
and offered it to her then took a drink from his own before continuing.

"The class from which myself and Commander Verin came was the first mass influx of cadets in
three decades and was based on Mars at Utopia Planitia, the purpose of it was straightforward
and logical, revitalize StarFleet and fuel its return to exploration. The orders given to the science
department and engineering were to consider, experiment and produce new technologies that
would bring us back to parity with the enemies and competitors of the Federation. After my
promotion to Chief Science Officer Admiral Remae created a new department that bridged the
gap between science and engineering and provided communication and cooperation between
both, scientific research and development."

He paused to take another sip then sat back, there were nuances that were not necessary to
relate, she would be given the broad overview here.

"Admiral Remae moved me to head of that department and Illuminar itself carries many of the
breakthroughs and advancements that came from it. In addition I still am heavily involved with
the department on Mars and work continues there to meet the goals I set in materials that will
withstand the energy requirements needed for the next phase of the program which is still years
away. You will answer to me while on the ship and Admiral Salek on Mars who has oversight of
the division."
(Reply: T'shalaith)

He set the glass on the desktop. "While Mars works to meet the requirements I set you may
pursue your own researches on the ship, I recommend interfacing with them to determine where
your researches intersect, something you are working on might be helpful to their efforts and
vice versa. Penn and Teller, if they remain on the ship will be shifted to work directly under you,
independent of general science. I also expect full cooperation between general science and
research and development should a new CSO be named. Skashe Winters is a good scientist
but I have spoken with him in the past and he does not desire to be a department head at this
time, he prefers to concentrate on his fields of study. In time he may change his mind or another
science officer may rise to the position. I tested and thoroughly vetted Lieutenant Bohb before
recruiting him to return to the fleet, he is a brilliant engineer with an agile mind and will be an
excellent resource for you as well. While we have moved back to parity and in some cases
surpassed many your department will drive advancements in the fleet into the future. Do you
accept the assignment?"

The meeting with Lieutenant T'shalaith had been eventful, as a department head she was going
to become a valuable resource in the future, he recycled the second crystal glass and returned
to the desk with another before activating the comm.

"Lieutenant Ariel Trei to the Ready Room."

He sat down and when the chime announced. "Come."

The door opened and the Lieutenant entered, he gestured her to a seat. "Welcome Lieutenant."

(Reply: Trei)

After she had taken the seat he began. "Lieutenant Trei as one of the original members of this
crew your efforts have not gone unnoticed. You have twice changed your department or
operational parameters at my request and have broadened the scope of your participation
during our battle with the small fleet of the House of Duras. While in that battle you showed the
skills of a weapons officer in cooperation with Lieutenant T'Mur under an exchange of fire. For
this reason I have logged a commendation on your record."

(Reply: Ariel Trei)

He nodded. "We are scheduled to be in Sector 001 in ten days time after a short layover at
Vulcan. When we arrive at Earth you will be presented with a medal, the Legion of Honor for
exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services given under my
command."
He stood to his feet. "I do not offer such an award lightly and as I am a Vulcan you seldom
witness my appreciation of your efforts. Consider this a token of that appreciation."

(USS Illuminar - Deck 1 - Ready Room - CO, Captain Sekal - 1325)

The next had been considered carefully. A few months ago Michael Weston, Star Fleet
Intelligence operative had come aboard under trying circumstances as a resource that had been
compromised. The reason? To assist in the deconstruction of a ring that had found a cache of
advanced alien weaponry and was selling it on the black market to dissident groups and
enemies of the Federation.

During that time they had found evidence pointing to a residue of remaining Roanoke holdouts
that had reformed and were attempting to expand their operation. Michael Weston, SFI
operative had been instrumental in following their trail and tracking them down.

His burn record had not yet been cleared and he had remained aboard Illuminar which Sekal
had not been averse to, while many of the officers and crew held no trust for him he had earned
respect in the Captain's eyes by safeguarding Doctor Solice during her ill-advised sting of rogue
elements aboard the ship.

And now? He had brought the Rhyne with its complement of crew, civilians and surviving
Illuminar officers to the rendezvous at Bajor and both ships had returned to the Prime Universe.
He had earned respect and trust ...and then some. They were all back aboard Illuminar now,
having seen the Rhyne safely back to Federation space then closing the anomaly.

He activated the comm. "Michael Weston to the Ready Room please." Had he phrased it as an
order he most likely would have come without complaint but he was after all technically a
Civilian.

He was still catching up on the Rhyne logs that had been transferred to Illuminar when the
chime sounded. "Come."

(Reply: Michael Weston)

"Mr. Weston please take a seat."

(Reply: Weston)

The Vulcan studied him for a moment before speaking. "Mister Weston despite the low regard of
many including myself for Intelligence operatives and their methods you have proven over time
that out of it can come persons of character."

He sat back in the chair as he steepled his fingers before him.

"I once invited you to make a place among my crew since you had been black balled and driven
out of the Intelligence community and you took that invitation and made it your own. It is my
understanding that such could not have been easy because of the suspicion and hostility
around you." An eyebrow lifted, including from his own first officer.

(Reply: Weston)

Sekal nodded. "Lieutenant Commander Gregory placed his trust in you to assist in directing the
Rhyne and when he became injured you shepherded it until we could extract you. You have
made your place among my crew and earned their respect." The Captain stood to his feet. "Mr.
Weston please stand."

(Reply: Weston)

The CO chose two boxes from the drawer and set them on the desk then moved around it.
Michael Weston during his time on the Rhyne had become accustomed to wearing a uniform.
He picked up the first box and from it took a gold pip then turned to the man with uplifted
eyebrow, when he made no protest he continued.

"You have displayed the character, skills and commitment to excellence demanded by StarFleet.
In accordance with the charter of the Federation and StarFleet and under the terms thereof I
hereby transfer to you the rights and privileges of a commissioned officer stationed aboard the
USS Illuminar and to be carried with you wherever you may go. And as a commissioned officer
you will be expected to uphold and maintain that standard of excellence in your endeavors." He
affixed the pip to his collar then removed another gold one from the second box and added it
creating the Lieutenant's row. Sekal then raised his hand in the Vulcan salute. "Congratulations
Lieutenant Weston."

(USS Illuminar - Deck 14 - SFI Office - SFI- Michael Weston - 1326)

Sekal had decided to give Michael his own office near the security department. He had to admit
that it was kind of nice to have a place to work that wasn't in his apartment. He had been going
over the logs and conducting interviews into the disappearance of Keung Lee, or
non-disappearance, and into the circumstances around one Lawrence Day. He had to wonder if
both incidents were connected. He had pured through the notes from Penn and Teller on the
subject of Lucky Day, and it read like Sanskrit. Too much science for his brain to handle. The
bottom line seemed to be that Lucky Day had been caught in some kind of temporal event in
which he disappeared from out timeline, and then returned to it, all by accident.

He remembered that Lee wasn't big on the theory before his disappearance. In fact he was
ready to throw Penn and Teller in the brig. But that was before, and now nobody knows him
except those from the Rhyne mission. Lee just seemed to have disappeared into time, as
though he never existed in this timeline. It was all beginning to give Michael a headache and
the chirp of his comm badge was a welcome distraction.

=^=Michael Weston to the Ready Room please.=^=
"On my way," he replied tapping his badge. He filed the reports and put the folder in a place
that he knew he would never go back to. This was going to have to be a mystery that never got
solved. Then he turned off his computer and exited his office. He tapped the top of the
doorway on his way out.

(USS Illuminar - Deck 1 - Ready Room - SFI - Michael Weston - 1328)

Michael entered the ready room when bid to and nodded at the CO. "Captain, you rang?"

"Mr. Weston, please take a seat."

Weston went to the seat realizing this was going to be more that a quick check on some details
from his Rhyne reports. He sat down in the chair across from the CO, feeling a little strange in
the uniform. He had actually gotten used to it

"Mister Weston despite the low regard of many including myself for Intelligence operatives and
their methods you have proven over time that out of it can come persons of character."

Michael looked at the captain, not sure where this was all going. Then Sekal continued.

"I once invited you to make a place among my crew since you had been black balled and driven
out of the Intelligence community and you took that invitation and made it your own. It is my
understanding that such could not have been easy because of the suspicion and hostility
around you."

Weston shrugged his shoulders, “To be honest, Captain, I’ve lived in a world where trust is a
rare commodity that I hardly notice the distrust from others. It’s when that distrust of me affects
innocent bystanders around me, that I take cumbrance. I did not chose an easy lifestyle. But I
have appreciated the opportunities that have been afforded to me through your grace. And in
the end, I am who I am.”

Weston stood up slowly, half expecting some kind of Vulcan death grip to come across the desk.
~What the hell did I do now?~

Michael had seen the boxes Sekal pulled out of his desk before and suddenly realized what was
about to happen. Before he could say anything the Vulcan had opened a box and pulled out the
gold pip. His initial response was to reject the commendation, but then he realized that after this
last year, and the months before, that maybe he had finally found a place to call home.
Something worth using his skills to protect. Or at least someone, as his thoughts turned to
Quinna. So he remained silent.

And as a commissioned officer
you will be expected to uphold and maintain that standard of excellence in your endeavors."
Sekal put one lip on his collar then opened the second box and applied that one as well. He
raised his hand in a Vulcan salute and said, "Congratulations Lieutenant Weston."

Weston ranked his neck to look at the pips on his collar then looked up a Sekal. He smiled a
reserved smile and said, “In for a penny, in for a pound.” Then he looked a little more seriously
and said, “Does this mean I have to keep regular office hours and report to T’Mur?”

The Vulcan was methodically moving his way up the ladder so to speak. Lieutenant Commander
Gregory's promotion had already been logged and when he awoke, if he awoke it would be as
full Commander. Still more promotions remained to be handed out.

A number of officers and crew had been called in and left with their awards, some rank
increases and some medals, all were being rewarded for their dedication including Chief Petty
Officer Hammons and Lieutenant (jg) Galk, both in security. Two others of note from that
department were Jared Boyles and Carol Lannis, both now Petty Officer 1st class. Their
department head was next.

"Lieutenant T'Mur and Commander Verin to the Ready Room."

(Reply: Sienna, T'Mur)

He stood to his feet as both entered and motioned to the chairs before his desk. There were
tumblers with two fingers of blue liquid set before each place, three in all. A crystal decanter two
thirds full was set directly in the center of the desktop.

As they sat he did the same.

(Reply: Sienna, T'Mur)

"Lieutenant your performance has been exemplary from the time you came aboard this ship.
You have continually gone above and beyond in the performance of your duties and have risen
to the pinnacle of your department and to the top of the ranks of a commissioned officer. It is
time to take the next step."

1342)

T'Mur had been standing at the Tactical Station when her comm badge chirped.

=^=Lieutenant T'Mur and Commander Verin to the Ready Room.=^=

T'Mur looked over at Sienna and sent a questioning thought through their link. Sienna smiled at
her, but held her thoughts in check. Something was... how did Sienna phrase it... up? Which
didn't really make sense because she also said something was about to go down, and neither of
those things usually meant that gravity was in question.

She tapped her comm badge, "On our way."

She walked past Quinna and looked at her, still sensing the tension between them. They were
going to have to resolve that difference eventually, but she didn't see how as long as she
believed that she would use Sienna to undermine her authority and to further T'Mur's career.

(USS Illuminar - Deck 1 - Ready Room - CO, Captain Sekal - 1343)

As they entered she saw Sekal standing behind his desk. On the desk were three glasses filled
with a blue liquid set in front of their seats. Sekal motioned for them to sit, and she chose the
seat on the right of Sienna, who seemed to be all smiles.

"Lieutenant your performance has been exemplary from the time you came aboard this ship,"
Sekal began. "You have continually gone above and beyond in the performance of your duties
and have risen to the pinnacle of your department and to the top of the ranks of a commissioned
officer. It is time to take the next step."

Sekal stood and moved to the side so that Sienna could take his place.

Sienna felt something from her mate, a worry, a tension, something that they needed to discuss
but were not in any place to do so. She knew what was coming, she and the Captain had
spoken at great length about matters. She turned towards her mate, “Lieutenant, stand please.”

Sy waited for her mate to do as asked, winking at T’Mur when she did.

T’Mur stood curiously. She had to agree with the captain’s assessment of her performance, she
realized that there had been no mention of the incident after the visit with Giovanna. Sekal said
she was ready to take the step, but she wasn’t certain that was accurate. Did she earn this?

No, she put that thought out of her mind. If Captain Sekal said that she was ready then she
must surely be ready. And she earned that. Then she looked at Sienna and nodded at the facial
expression that she had made.

Sy took the black pip from the small box and attached it to her collar, “You’ll need to start bridge
command training after the wedding, but I am so proud of you, she who is my mate.” Sy let the
pride radiate between them. She was looking forward to the bridge training series with her
mate. Sy also knew that they needed to talk soon - something was bothering T’Mur about this.
Sy didn’t want to pry until her mate was ready to talk about whatever was bothering her.
Looking into T’s eyes, Sy spoke sincerely, “You did a good job with Giovanna. She’s going to be
transferred to Mars, and be put under Admiral Saleke’s direction in Research & Development.”

::Whatever is bothering you, let me help.:: Sy sent on a quick telepathic shaft, hoping that Sekal
wouldn’t pick it up. It was considered rude to use telepathy where voice would work when in a
mixed crowd.

::It is not important. I had a moment of doubt. However, the moment has passed, and now all I
want is for us to be friends with Quinna again.::

Then she said, “I look forward to your training. I have much to learn about command.”

::Perhaps we can have some late night training sessions.:: She sent an image through their link
that made Sienna blush.

Sienna laughed and smiled up at T’Mur, forgetting for a moment that Sekal was with them,
taking the evident delight in her mate.

Sienna turned back towards Sekal and inclined her head. Sienna was Sekal’s opposite in so
many ways, which is what made them such an effective command crew.

“We have a wedding to plan on Earth.” Sienna looked up at Sekal, studying him for a moment.
“It would please both of us if you would attend as a member of our wedding party?”

“Indeed,” T’Mur added. “It would only be logical to have you in our wedding party. In fact, it had
been my intention to ask for you to be my…” she looked into Sienna’s mind to find the right
words, ~No, not maid of honor. Best man? Yes, best man.~ “my best man. To stand with me
during the ceremony.”

“We have a wedding to plan on Earth.” Sekal's right hand turned to him and gave him a long
look before speaking. "It would please both of us if you would attend as a member of our
wedding party?”

"An unexpected honor." The Captain replied formally. That the pair would make their
commitment permanent was never in doubt, that he would be given such a place of honor had
never been considered. "I accept your invitation."

“Indeed,” the newly minted Lieutenant Commander added. "It would only be logical to have you
in our wedding party. In fact, it had been my intention to ask for you to be my… my best man.
To stand with me during the ceremony.”

An eyebrow lifted at this. "Your request is ... surprising." He looked at both for an instant before
continuing. "I accept. I am aware there is normally more to this role than merely taking a position
with one of the participants but I am uncertain of what that entails. Perhaps you could enlighten
me."

(Reply: Either)

The eyebrow climbed higher on his forehead. "Indeed. I am not an expert on such things but am
certain I can find someone who is up for the task."

(Reply: Either)

"It is only logical to assume thar Doctor Mias has already been tasked with performing the
ceremony." His eyes moved from Sienna to T'Mur. "The next logical question is what the dress
requirements will be for the wedding party."

(Reply: Either)

He gave a shrug. "I had assumed as much. Has the date been set yet? It must be noted that
due to orders my schedule while at Earth will be busy once we arrive however I am certain I can
adjust that to compensate for the nuptial duties if necessary."

The last of the promotions to be given out was at hand. Commendations only remained for the
rest of the crew and would be done over the course of the day. Sekal had allowed ample time
for the news of T'Mur's promotion to sink in along with questions and comments. The newly
minted Lieutenant Commander had taken her leave and Sienna had remained for the next one
as well. The third tumbler had been replaced and contained 2 fingers of Andorian ale as before,
the other 2 had been freshened. The CO was not one to imbibe except on special occasions
and this day contained two.

(Reply: Sienna)

He cast a look at Sienna before activating the com. "Lieutenant Commander Solice to the
Ready Room."

(Reply: Solice)

The door wasn't locked and she had access, it opened at her arrival and he motioned her to sit
beside Sienna.

He leaned forward over the desk as he spoke. "Lieutenant Commander I have had the privilege
of being your Commanding Officer since the ship was launched and have born witness to your
progress from the beginning. You were assigned to this ship at my request and have grown into
your role, first as Chief Medical Officer and now as a command member. Your growth has taken

overstepping in regards to Michael Weston you proved you had the 'teeth' to run your
department in opposition to command when necessary and again when you stood up to me

He took a sip of water from his ever present glass then set it back in its place.

"When Commander Verin was incapacitated you proved that you were ready to take the next

He stood to his feet. "Commander Verin has requested the honor of this occasion."

Quinna sat in the center chair reading over the reports Mason submitted. Still, no change in
Gregory and Matrix. Now that things were going back to normal, she knew she needed to have
a meeting with the medical staff. Quinna was more admin than a doctor now and she was
surprisingly enjoying this new role she took. She was even enjoying the red color of her
uniform. Red seemed to suit her.

She had been watching crew members go in and out of the ready room, but she had to admit,
she was surprised to see Michael, and did she Lieutenant Pip on him? She pretended not to
stare at him but she had to stare. If was cute in that uniform.

She also noted that T’Mur was given a rank boost as well. She nodded at the newly Lt.
Commander as she took her station. Quinna refocused her attention on the medical reports.

=/\= Lieutenant Commander Solice to the Ready Room.=/\=

“Yes, Sir.” Quinna stood and put her PADD to the side. She turned to T’Mur. “The Bridge is

Quinna strolled to the ready room door where it opened for her.

Quinna wondered why she was called into the office. There she saw Sienna and the Captain.
She took the offered seat.

Brief pause

"When Commander Verin was incapacitated you proved that you were ready to take the next

He stood to his feet. "Commander Verin has requested the honor of this occasion."

Quinna became even more confused as to what was happening here.

He then stepped to the side as before to allow Sienna to take his place.

two promotions in particular. One was her mate, the other was the woman that should have

hadn't followed her heart, and maybe they could more past it, maybe during shore leave.

Sy focussed back on what Sekal was saying since it was almost her turn to stand up and do the

"When Commander Verin was incapacitated you proved that you were ready to take the next

Sekal stood to his feet. "Commander Verin has requested the honor of this occasion."

Sy smiled at the confusion on Quinna's face as she struggled to her feet and took the small box

Quinna turned to face Sienna.

Reaching up, Sy unhooked the black pip with a grin.

Ranking officers and many crew had gathered on the shuttlebay. Command and the department
heads stood in a line to either side of the Captain with their backs to the Hanger Bay doors.
Despite the normally crowded conditions enough space had been cleared to make this
gathering possible. Sekal was not one for making speeches which could be said of much of his
race but he had a duty to perform. He stepped forward, stopped then looked around at all of the
faces then began.

"Ten days ago members of this crew were swept into the anomaly along with the USS Rhyne
which was sent one year into the past in another reality. While there they found survivors aboard
and along the way they took on others who assisted them in their cause, staying alive and
returning to their home reality."

His eyes swept over them again.

"There were losses during that time and injuries that still lingered yet you persevered and we
welcome you back along with those who have transferred to this ship while a few are returning
the Rhyne for repair. Your effort and pain have not been in vain. This day has been set aside to

He cupped his hands behind his back.

Sekal removed the black pip from his collar and added another gold making him a full

He watched as an adult carried her before him then set her on her feet.

"Ms. Pel it is my understanding that you have no family and removing you from the Illuminar is

(USS Illuminar - Deck 10 - Main Hanger Bay - SFI - Lt. Michael Weston - 1510)

Michael stood with the rest of the command staff before the hoard of crewmen in the main
hanger bay. It had been a long time since he'd seen that many people at one time. And although
he had grown accustomed to be seen in a uniform, not by so many at one time. And the glint
from the gold pips made him even less comfortable. In essence, this was his coming out
gathering.

Sekal began his presentation telling the crowd some highlights of their escapades. He
mentioned their losses and he couldn't help but think of the exotic Belisianna, and the gruff but
caring Suison.

"Your effort and pain have not been in vain," Sekal said bring Weston's attention back to the
present. . This day has been set aside to recognize your accomplishments before your peers at
the recommendation of your commanding officer."

Weston looked out across the crew, his crew, with a pride he had not realized existed in him.
They had truly become family. It had been hard watching the Rhyne set off for Earth without
him, but he knew where he belonged. And he was glad to see some of the Rhyne crew join
him on the Illuminar.

"Petty Officer First class P'Rah and Petty Officer First Class Hercules Devers please step

The security officers did as they were bid. Sekal shook their hands and motioned them to stand

"Thank you Mr. P'Rah."

"Ensign Andrew Taylor please step forward."

Taylor stepped forward, accepted the gold pip and shook the CO's hand.

"Thank you Mr. Taylor."

"Thank you, Captain Sekal," Taylor replied. He took a breath as though he planned to say more
but instead he stepped over Weston and shook his hand. "Thank you Captain Weston. We
wouldn't have made it without you." He took the black pip that had been removed and handed it
to him.

Sekal motioned him to join the others then said, "Ensign Tanya Cavanaugh please step
forward."

Tanya had been a mousetrap little wall flower at the start of their journey. She now looked the
captain in eye with a new confidence.

Sekal replaced the black pip with the gold then shook her hand. "Thank you Ms. Cavanaugh."

Tanya smiled and returned the handshake. "Thank you Captain Sekal, and I am excited to join
your science team."

Then, like Taylor, she walked over to Michael. Instead of shaking his hand she threw her arms
around his neck, stepped back and handed him her black pip. "Thank you, Captain Weston."

"Lieutenant Arthur Corday please step forward."

Corday stepped forward finally looking more like his youthful self, except in his eyes. It was clear
that he’d grown up in the last year. He saluted Sekal.

Sekal exchanged his pip and shook his hand saying, "Thank you Mr. Corday."

Corday nodded, turned to Weston and smiled, “Cap’n.” He handed him the black pip. “You old
pirate.”

Weston couldn’t help but chuckle. Arthur had enjoyed Weston’s whole pirate fantasy. He
stepped back with the others.

Finally Sekal’s gaze fell on Leeza and he said, "Ms. Leeza Pel please step forward."

Someone had lifted the girl up to the podium where she looked awkwardly shy and scared, yet
defiant.

"Ms. Pel it is my understanding that you have no family and removing you from the Illuminar is
not an option therefore guardians have volunteered for you, new parents if you are willing. You
will remain on Illuminar as.... Morale Officer." He gave her a quirked eyebrow.

(Reply: Leeza)

Steven Hammons came from the onlooking group and knelt down beside Leeza and gave her a
wide grin, Alaya stood beside him with her hand on his shoulder and smiled. "Alaya and I
haven't had children yet, if you'd like you can be our first."

Michael’s heart ached as the words came out of Sekal’s mouth. He had argued his position to
keep Leeza with him, but he had to accept two things, firmest if he was able to keep her safe as
her guardian or if he would put her in danger. He still had a target on his back. And the big
argument that Leeza needed a mother as well as a father. However she would always need her
big brother. So now he watched to see how she would react.

Leeza did not know that was happening but she stood there in her fancy dress next to Michael

missed Dieter. He acted as their father, especially when Michael and Leeza were up to their
antics.

"Ms. Leeza Pel please step forward." She looked at Mickey and was Quickly rushed to stand in

"Ms. Pel it is my understanding that you have no family and removing you from the Illuminar is

“What about Mikey and Kitty? We go see Eggery. What will they do without me?”

The questions flew thick and fast from the tearful toddler and he answered them in order as
thoroughly as possible.
"They won't be going anywhere and neither will you, you will be able to see them whenever
you'd like. You can't very well be a Morale Officer is you're shut away all of the time." Steven
winked at her. "You will live with us on the ship so we can take care of you."

“Do I have to?”

Steven chuckled then grew serious. "We aren't going to force you to live with us Leeza, we
aren't like that but we want you to stay with us so we can make sure you are taken care of. A
little girl needs to eat well, dress well and have someone to watch over her that she can learn
from. You may have children of yourself some day."

“Do you promise I can see Captain Eggery every day?”

"Absolutely." He nodded his head gravely. "As long as medical will allow visitors, I can't control
that."

“And if I don’t like it?”

He sat on the floor and looked her directly in the eyes. "If you don't like living with us I'm certain
the Captain can make other arrangements but I hope you will give us a chance. I know it's a big
step to take for all of us and we don't take this lightly, it will take a while for us all to get

Michael watched as the scene between Leeza and the Hammons unfolded. He had already had
his moment explaining to her why she couldn’t continue to stay with him. It had been one of the
more difficult, and confusing, conversations in his life. She rolled between being a three year
old Leeza and a more adult Pel.

The problem Was that Michael was in turmoil with the decision. He understood it, and for the
most part knew, it was what was best. But his heart couldn’t help but ache a little as he watched
Steven Hammons try to negotiate with this unique girl that he had grown to care for so much.

Finally he stepped forward and took a knee beside the pair. He put his arms out and swept her
in a hug.

“We’ve talked about this Munchkin,” he said. “P’Rah and I will always be a part of your life, no
matter what. No matter who you’re with. You'vee been to my new office and you can call me

“Ok," Leeza finally said. "I guess I can take care of them. But you will be there if I need you?”

"Of course," Michael assured her. "Somebody has to keep you in line."

“You promise?” Leeza asked again.

He raised his hand and marked an x on his chest, "Cross my heart."

He smiled when she demanded that Hammons make him keep his promise. He knew that he
had had to lie to save them on a few occasions. He had to explain to her the difference
between that kind of a lie, and not being honest with each other. He had promised her then that
he would never lie to her.

Then she asked Alaya if they can have chocolate cake for dinner and he had to turn to hide his
chuckle. When he turned back he shook his head and looked at her sternly. But he left Alaya to
make her own decisions there. Suddenly Leeza turned to Michael and held out the stuffed

Steven didn't try to hug on the confused little girl, that was Alaya's place, instead he crouched

“Do I have to?”

Steven watched then nodded at Michael in thanks for his support.

"No hun, you don't have to. We want you to stay with us so we can take care of you. Can't have

(USS Illuminar - Deck 10 - Main Hanger - Aft Lounge Manager- Becca - 1530)

Becca stood in the back watching the ceremony. It was quite exciting, since it was her first
opportunity to observe such an event since arriving on the Illuminar. By nature she was a people
watcher, like most Risans. She was, typically, able to read body language so well that they could
tell what people were feeling, wanting, and sometimes even thinking. It wasn’t telepathy, in any
way shape or form, just the art of observation taken to its highest level.

For most people it was not difficult. Even though they were loathed to admit it, most people wore
their heart on their sleeves, as it were. Vulcans were a hard read, usually. Their sense of self
control so great that their clues were very small. But to a true and focused observer, they were
there.

Sekal was usually one of the hardest reads she’d encountered, but at this moment she could
almost feel his sense of pride, almost an emotional response. It touched her heart and made her
smile even more. Vulcans were not devoid of emotions, as most would believe. If anything, she
believed they felt more deeply, and passionately, about things that mattered to them. However,
their control of these emotions was unsurpassed. She found them, well, fascinating.

As she looked around the bay she took in the excitement and comrade roe and was moved by
it. She walked forward and headed to the podium where Sekal had been speaking. They had
already discussed what was on her mind and he thought the idea to be quite logical.

When the crowd whitened down for dismissal she stepped forward and nodde to Sekal, who
returned the gesture. Then she stepped up to the podium and looked out.

“This has been quite a day,” she began. “We have had so many reasons to celebrate.
Promotions have been earned. Reunions have occurred. Friendships have been solidified. And
perhaps, a family has been created. In honor of this momentous occasion, and acknowledging
the preoccupation of this crew with the twentieth century, the Rec Room will be the host to an
event known as … a disco. There will be loud music, good food and beverages, and, of course,
dancing. Put on your disco outfits and join us. All are invited. See you all there.”

With that she nodded to Sekal, went over to Weston and kissed him on the cheek, and made
her way out of the bay.

Tegian looked around for T'shalaith. He was tall, but in this assembled crowd, not quite tall
enough to look over heads so easily. So, he started to mingle, getting and giving
congratulations on promotions.

He found T'shalaith just as she was about to leave. He gently grabbed her hand and pulled her

(USS Illuminar- Deck 4 - Crew Quarters – ACEO, Ensign Tegian Pex - 1535)

Tegian stretched, clicked off the alarm and changed into a new uniform. His dreams had been
very similar to last night's, but they no longer bothered him. His subconscious was trying to tell
him something. He wasn't sure that he was ready for an intimate encounter with T'shalaith just
yet, but he did recognize that he wanted something more than friendship. And admitting that to
himself, felt good. And Pex wasn't objecting. In fact, and this puzzled Tegian, he felt closer to
Pex.

He looked at the clock and realized that his two hours were almost up. He checked his
messages, saw that there were a few from the crew working on the freighter and read them
quickly while making himself presentable. He also grabbed something more to eat and drink
and then headed to the freighter feeling much better.

(USS Illuminar- Deck 10 - Main Shuttlebay – ACEO, Ensign Tegian Pex - 1540)

Arriving in Main Shuttlebay, Tegian noted there was still a security detail and Kelly was still part
of it. He smiled as he walked by and gave a wave. If things went as he hoped with T'shalaith,
we might have to explain to Kelly about his previous flirting. But, if not... Well, then he might
want to keep being friendly.

He entered the freighter to see Priscallia in front of the computer console, with the two PADDs
and a different device. She nodded to him. "I came up with a better method for storing the
memory." She patted a bundle of isolinear chips inserted into a device that was connected to
the computer core. Priscallia offered, "I managed to triple the download rate and ..." she clicked
a few buttons, "we are forty-three percent complete. I also have a new computer core already,
just waiting for your approval. I think we can have the computer back up and running within
eighteen hours. The longest part of this is going to be reintegrating the memory as parts of it
are damaged. But, we will let the computer do that once we upload it. And the new core can
handle an upload rate six times the rate of the current one, so it will go a lot quicker." Tegian
smiled. "I'm good, but you're a lot better. Thank you. I'm going to check on the others."

Tegian checked in on Navigation and found the Ensign making great progress in her task.
Repairs were almost complete and she'd even replaced most of the console. Tegian chuckled
as he nodded in approval and moved on to engineering. He knocked at the door and then took
a few steps back and waited. The door opened and one of the decontamination crew stuck their
head out. "We need about another twenty minutes and then the room should be clean." Tegian
gave a thumbs up, a human gesture that seemed to have caught on to other races and moved
to find the other two ensigns. Since they couldn't be working in engineering, he was wondering
where they might be.

He brought up the schematics of the freighter on the PADD he had and looked for weapons and
shields. He then chuckled and headed back out of the freighter and started walking around the
outside, looking for a set of handholds. Finding them, he secured the PADD and started
climbing. Once on top of the freighter, he looked around and found the two ensigns at different
points and decided to walk towards the closest engineer working on what should be shields. He
found him attempting to boost the power output of the emitters. Tegian sat down on the hull and
looked at his work. What was being done was sound, but the emitters weren't capable of
handling the additional output. "We're going to need to replace the emitters. They can't handle
what you're trying to do." Tegian flipped through his PADD looking at specifications and found
some that would fit. "I will have these replicated for you. They'll fit the housing and give the
ship a shield strength three times what it currently has. You'll need to replace the couplings
here, here and here." He showed the ensign different places outside and inside the freighter. "It
should only take a few more hours and then you can run some diagnostics. You shouldn't need
the computer to do that. Once engineering is clean from the radiation, you can access the
diagnostic station there and check your work from there." He got a nod and an, "okay."

Tegian stood and went forward to the phasers. He sat down next to the ensign who shook his
head. "These phasors wouldn't dent our shields." Tegian grinned. "Exactly why I want to boost
them. Have you figured out how to do that?" The ensign nodded. "I've replaced the power
couplers inside where I could and I replaced the phaser emitters. But, there's no place where I
can add new ones. The freighter would need to undergo a refit." Tegian nodded. "I agree.
Show me which phaser emitters you chose." He handed the ensign his PADD. The ensign
flipped through a few screens and pointed. "This one." Tegian scanned the details and nodded.
"Good. When you finish this, provided we can boost the reactor output, these phasors will dent
our shields. Good work. When you finish up here, please return to the tactical station and
make the adjustments to the console to compensate for the increased output to the shields and
weapons."

Tegian climbed back down and noticed the decontamination crew was outside on the hanger
being decontaminated themselves. He went back into the freighter and checked on progress on
the computer core, got a wave and went into engineering. Everything was sparkling, having
received a good cleaning. There were several tricorders lying around recording the radiation
levels and they were all showing normal levels. Tegian picked one up and did a thorough scan
of the entire room, satisfied with the team's work.
He then went to the reactor and brought up the schematics. To be able to boost the output of
the phasers of the shields and phasers were going to take more than just replacing emitters and
power couplings. The reactor itself was going to have to put out more power. Tegian had been
thinking about that when he'd been back here earlier in the day fixing the leak. This reactor was
somewhat inefficient, mainly due how old it was and that some of the energy was lost after the
matter and antimatter reaction occurred. Tegian again studied schematics of the freighter. He
didn't have room to do much and he couldn't replace the reactor. That kind of work would need
to be done at a starbase. But, what he could do was replace the plasma relays that were more
efficient and would funnel more energy to the shields and the phasers without compromising the
energy to the engines and the rest of the ship's systems. What he was going to do was reduce
the amount of energy that the reactor dumped to space as waste.

He documented the steps on his PADD and got to work. About three hours into the process, his
PADD chimed with the end of his shift. He'd checked in on the other ensigns at least a half
dozen times between his own choice and questions. The work for navigation, shields and
phasers were now complete and testing of all three were satisfactory.

Priscallia had shaved another two hours off the computer core work. Everything had been
copied off the old core and the new core was installed. The memory was being copied back
and then it was going to be a matter of reintegrating the memory and fixing any damaged areas.

Tegian and Priscallia updated their status and waited for the Beta shift to show up before going
over current status, next steps and then heading off duty.

Tegian returned to Main Engineering to return some of the unneeded PADDs and update some
logs. He also checked for messages. He noticed it was almost 2000 and he was hoping he'd
find something from T'shalaith.

“I hope we get to keep this home, Jord. I’m not sure I have it in me to keep running.” She took

Reid drained her bottle, “Hope springs eternal, T. I’m off to bed. Long day ahead.”

Quinna’s Dress:

After the ceremony, Quinna left and went straight to her quarters. She took the time to replicate
a full-length dress with a halter top. She placed the dress on her bed along with some strappy
sandals. She still would not wear wedges.

Quinna sat on her bed as she thought about the ceremony. She was missing a key figure. She
felt the loss of Gregory not being there. Then there was the scene she witnessed with Michael
and Leeza. It had teared her up. She could tell that Michael really wanted to raise the little girl.
Without talking about it, Michael choose not to fight for custody and Quinna knew why. It was
the same reasons that made Quinna keep her guard up.

Quinna stood and swoon a bit. The room seem to spin a bit but then it cleared. “Oh Quinna
Dear, you need to take time off,” she said to herself. It was then she noticed the three jars of
liquid in them. Looking at the note saying, “Alice in Wonderland.” Quinna smiled and noticed
that there were blank labels on the bottles. She licked on up facing the blank label, Quinna
squinted her eyes. She put the bottle down but something caught her eye. She read the label
through the jar. “Drink me.” She read aloud. Quinna opened the jar and took a sip. Licking her
lips, she closes the jar and headed to the bathroom for her shower.

Quinna did something she normally never does. She took time to style her hair and put on
Make-up. The order for the night was big hair and big curls. A cloth headband was tied to her
hair just for decoration. And with her makeup on. Big round gold hoops in her ears that she
could tolerate for one night, Quinna was ready for her dress. And before she picked up her date
for the night, she spritz on some perfume.

It was 1658 when she left her quarters and stepped foot in front of Michael’s. She rang the
chime.

“Well, Well, if it isn’t Disco Mikey.” Quinna greeted with the biggest smile.

(USS Illuminar - Deck 11 - Aft Lounge 'Rec Room' - SO - Lt. Andy Taylor - 2000)

Andy checked out his outfit before he stepped through the doors to the Rec Room. he was
wearing a pair of dark blue bell-bottom pants and a gold lame shirt. As soon as he stepped
through the door his senses were instantly barraged by the input of the party. Loud music
reverberated through the room. He had already felt the vibrations in the deck plating as he
walked through the corridor towards the lounge. Bright lights flashed. His eyes followed the
flashing lights to several reflective balls hanging from the ceiling. Light was shining on the balls
and refracted off them in several directions. It gave the room an interesting effect.

As he looked across the room there was a large, empty space, in the middle of the room.
Empty was not the right term. It was devoid of furniture, however, it was full of people dancing
to the rhythm of the music. Around the edge of the dance floor was a series of small tables,
with no seats. The decor was designed to keep people on the dance floor and not let them be
comfortable being a wallflower or a watcher. He got the message, dance or go home.

In the back was the area he was looking for, the bar. He knew that he was going to have to be
well lubricated before he stepped onto the dance floor. So he headed back there to find a group
of security people, including the cadets, had already gathered.

"L.T., L.T.," Jacob Roberts called out to him, "first round's on us... sir."

Taylor smiled and stepped up to the group, "Don't mind if I do."

"Check it out Andy," Cadet Walker said as she handed him a glass bottle, "they're serving the
beer in these antique style bottles. Pretty cool, huh?"

Taylor nodded as he took the bottle and eyed it with interest. He was always amazed at the use
of resources that had been used in that era of human history. He put the bottle to his lips and
took a drink. The beer was cool, and it was good. Perhaps that was why they did it. It seemed
to preserve some of the flavors of the ingredients.

"Nice," he said.

Roberts nodded, "I'm so glad Becca started this party at a time so Gamma shift could have a
chance to jump in. Unfortunately, only synthehol for us about to go on duty."

There were a few moans in the group and Roberts turned on that, "Belay that. She could have
started at 2200 and we'd have missed all the fun."

"To true Roberts," Taylor replied. “Enjoy what you can while you can.” That sounded more
contemplative than he had originally intended, but the year on the Rhyne and facing his death
on multiple opportunities had given him a renewed perspective.

“Enough of this,” Shosi Koks said. The Andorian grabbed Taylor’s hand and began to drag him
to the dance floor. “I’ve only got two hours to before I go on duty and I want to dance.”
Taylor laughed and let himself be dragged out to the shining dance area to a song that
announced the “Dancing Queen.”
