How can they get back to their own universe. Of course, the underlying question was, if they can’t figure it out themselves how can they survive? And even if they do find a way back, will they be able to survive until they are found? With only the necessary systems still working the shuttle had been losing heat. By 1800 hours they had all moved into their EVA suits, to maintain their body heat. She doubted that anyone else could sense it, but she could feel the air begin to thin. If anyone else did feel they kept it to themselves. Upon Quinna’s insistence they all began to rotate sleeping cycles. They hope was that it would use up less air. Even T’Mur had slept for a few hours, it was not a fitful sleep as she was plagued by thoughts of Sienna, Luma and Temas Now she was looking at the readings that the sensors had been able to record. She sat forward and studied what she saw. And there it was. Of course, why hadn’t she seen it before. The blow to her head must have shaken her a bit more that she had realized. “Dr. Gralen, I need you to look at this.” (reply Gralen) When the CSO came over she showed him the scans. The pattern flashed again. “There, did you see it? The pattern is pretty clear. Are you familiar with the fractal dimensional algorithms? Chaotic invariants like the fractal dimensions are used to characterize non-linear time series. The fractal dimension is an important characteristic of systems, because it contains information about their geometrical structure at multiple scales. In this work, three algorithms are applied to non-linear time series: spectral analysis, rescaled range analysis and Higuchi's algorithm.” (reply Gralen) “Look here,” she said, pointing to the monitor. “You were correct. It is a door that opens and closes, at a regular, random pattern across time. By these calculations it should open again in 3 hours and 18 minutes.” (reply Gralen) (Posted by Al Muir) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Illuminar - Deck 1 - Main Engineering - aFO - Commander Alex Karnovskyy - 0204) The Illuminar had been in the area for nearly two hours. They had given the area as much scientific attention as they could. What they had discovered was that the area was riddled with quantum irregularities, all of them vibrating at a different harmonic level. It was as if a series of quantum filaments had crossed and created pockets of displacements that could be small conduits to other dimensions. Sasha had been amazed that there had been no incidents before this, but the actual affected area was, as the universe sat, quite small, and the irregularities were near invisible unless one was actually looking for them. Suddenly the communications officer interrupted his thoughts, “Commander, the raptor has arrived in the sector. They have stopped outside the area of influence on the other side of the system.” Karnovskyy sat up, “Open a channel.” “Channel open.” “Commander Karnovskyy from the Illuminar to the Raptor, welcome to the party.” (reply Raptor) “We’re sending over all of the data we’ve collected since we’ve arrived. Between your science people and ours over here, perhaps we can make sense of what’s happened to the shuttle.” (reply Raptor) (posted by Al Muir) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Argos - Flight Deck - CSO - Lt Commander Holis Gralen - 0205) Answers were seldom easy, often you had to find them obliquely when you were against something unexpected. “Dr. Gralen, I need you to look at this.” He gave a start and looked at the second officer then walked toward her. "Yes?" "This is pretty clear. Are you familiar with the fractal dimensional algorithms? Chaotic invariants like the fractal dimensions are used to characterize non-linear time series. The fractal dimension is an important characteristic of systems, because it contains information about their geometrical structure at multiple scales. In this work, three algorithms are applied to non-linear time series: spectral analysis, rescaled range analysis and Higuchi's algorithm.” "I am familiar with the theoretical aspects, what have you found?" “Look here, you were correct. It is a door that opens and closes, at a regular, random pattern across time. By these calculations it should open again in 3 hours and 18 minutes.” "Excellent!" He crowed. "This reminds me of another incident a long time ago with a ship phasing between dimensions. They managed to snatch the captain from the ship before it completely disappeared if I remember correctly." Holis scrolled through her calculations before mumbling then nodding. "I concur with your findings, three hours and sixteen point six minutes. We should prepare to convert all available remaining power to the drive and communications so that when the door opens we can attempt to break through. At least, that is my suggestion." He looked around at all. (Reply: T'Mur, Quinna, Pex, Piripi) (Posted by Charles Gatling) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Argos -- Flight Deck -- CMO Commander Quinna Solice - 0210) Quinna made her way to the flight deck. She had spent most of her time on the aft section staying out of the way. Holis scrolled through her calculations before mumbling and then nodding. "I concur with your findings, three hours and sixteen points six minutes. We should prepare to convert all available remaining power to the drive and communications so that when the door opens we can attempt to break through. At least, that is my suggestion." He looked around at all. “Door? What Door?” Quinna asked. She had not been a part of the conversations before however she was like she said, keeping out of the way. (Reply T’Mur, Holis) “Diverting all power, what about life support?” Quinna continued, “What are the changes by taking this door, and to where?” (Reply T’Mur, Holis) (Posted by Kris B) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Argos - Flight Deck - 2O/CSec/Tac - Lt Commander T’Mur - 0211) “We should prepare to convert all available remaining power to the drive and communications,” Hollis suggested, “so that when the door opens we can attempt to break through. Quinna was, once again at T’Mur’s shoulder, “Door? What Door?” “Dr. Gralen had noted the possibility of the portal between the dimensions was like a doorway, opening and closing. I have discovered the next opening will be in roughly three hours and ten minutes.” Keeping track of the passing of time was becoming more difficult through the haze of her pain. However, she did not wish to concern the others with something that could not be treated at this time. “Diverting all power, what about life support?” Quinna asked, “What are the changes by taking this door, and to where?” T’Mur looked at the power reserves and looked back at the others, “By my calculations, if we divert all power to the maneuvering thrusters, we will have just enough to push through the barrier. That would include life support, and nonessential computer operations such as sensors. The inherent problem will be when we exit the portal. Once the thrusters are depleted we will be, basically, a powerless ship. Irony would note that the ship would be dead.” (reply any) She turned to the team that had been working on using the visor as a communication device. “Ensign Piripi, Lt. Pex, do we know if there is anyone on the other side ready for us? Do we even know if your signal has reached the other side?” (reply Pex, Piripi) (posted by Al Muir) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Argos - Flight Deck - CEO - Lieutenant Jg Tegian Pex - 0213) Tegian's cobbled together booster for Ensign Piripi's VISOR had succeeded in sending a message without harming her. It had drained just one phaser power pack and there had been no feedback to her. She was back to wearing her VISOR and Tegian had been resting. Tegian heard the plan and stuck his head into the Flight Deck. "I can give us a bit more power, Lieutenant Commander, if I make use of the phaser power packs," he replied. "However, I can't tell you whether or not the signal from Ensign Piripi's VISOR made it through. We didn't get a response. Plus, there's a good chance there's a time dilation. All I can tell you is that the VISOR succeeded in sending out a message." "With your permission, Lieutenant Commander, I'll make the conversion. We won't have any phasers, but it should give us another ..." Tegian did some quick calculations in his head. "Ten hours of life support or another fifteen percent power to the maneuvering thrusters." (Reply T'Mur, Any) (Posted by Keith) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Raptor - Level 1 - Bridge - SFI/aFO - Lt. Michael Weston - 0230) Michael had no desire to sleep since this whole incident began. With Quinna on the shuttle he wasn’t going to rest until he was sure she was dead, or that the shuttle was rescued. Nobody had been more surprised than he had been when Saleke had named him as the aFO while Verin was out with whatever had happened to her. He could only assume that it was because of the bond between her and T’Mur. It must have put a telepathic strain on them. He wondered how the Vulcan was fairing with it. “Lieutenant,” Taylor called out, his voice was holding on to some sort of excitement, “I am receiving a message from… well I don’t really know where, but it is from the shuttle. I’m trying to boost the signal.” A few moments later he yelled out, “Gotcha, ya little dickens. Okay, here we go. Putting it through.” =^=To any and all vessels that can hear this. This is the USS Argos. Please respond.=^= “Trying to respond, but I’m having trouble tracing the signal.” Taylor said. Weston leapt to the communication station and began to work through the problem with his Tactical officer. It took some time but he finally found the signal and was able to trace it into the field of quantum pockets. “Locked on,” he said. “Open a channel.” It took Taylor a minute to follow Weston’s lead, but was finally able to open his own comm signal. “You’re live.” “Argos, this is the Raptor,” he announced, “we’ve received your message. Status?” =^=Mr. Weston, is that you you? Where is the captain or Commander Verin?=^= It must have been T’Mur, her voice was a little staticy. “Commander Verin has been… incapacitated. The captain is currently off the bridge. I’m in charge right now.” There was an extended pause that he could only imagine was T’Mur pulling herself together. =^=Very well, we have been caught in an alternate dimension of space, separated by a harmonic rift that is active at a negative point zero one of our standard universe. There is a portal that should open for us to pass back in 2 hours fifty-seven minutes from now. Our power supplies are nearly depleted. We will, however, attempt to cross that barrier at that time. We need you to be ready for us.=^= “We’re ready now, Lt. Commander,” Weston said and nodded to Tavay at Ops, who started a countdown timer. =^=I’m afraid this will be our last opportunity to communicate, Lieutenant. Tell Sienna that…=^= The signal disappeared. Weson looked over at Taylor, who simply shook his head. He sighed heavily and tapped his comm badge. “Captain, we’ve made contact with the shuttle, and have a plan to recover it.” (reply Sekal) Then he turned to the bridge crew. “All right people, we have less than three hours to be ready. Tavay, I want everything we have in tractors and transporters. We’ll need to either drag them out or transport them out… or both.” (reply Tavay) He looked down at Corday at the helm. “Once we locate them we’ll need to be as close as possible without touching one of those pockets.” “Roger that,” the pilot replied. “I’ll be ready.” “We’ll need as much protection from those quantum pockets as we can get, in case they shift,” Weston said. “Think of Murphy’s law. If it can go wrong it will. Let’s go, people.” (reply Sekal, Tavay, any) (posted by Al Muir) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Argos - Flight Deck - 2O/CSec/Tac - Lt Commander T’Mur - 0234) The strain caused by using Piripi’s visor as a pan dimensional communications devise had proven too much for both the woman and the device. A chart he suddenly shot through her and she collapsed with a scream. “Quinna,” T’Mur said calmly, “how is te ensign?” (reply Solice) This was exactly what she did not want to happen. She chastised herself for allowing the human’s lack of self regards to influence her decision. With a sigh she helped Quinna carry Piripi to the aft section of the shuttle then returned to the flight deck. “Looks like I’m your new copilot, Lt Grey Wolf,” the Bulcan said. We're going to have one shot at hitting that target.” (reply Grey Wolf) “Lt. Pex,” she turned to the engineer, “how is Ensign Piripi’s visor?” (reply Pex) She nodded, “Over the next two hours and fifty minutes I want you to see how much power we can put into the nacelles. I am assuming that we will need , at the least, full impulse power to cross the barrier, if not warp 1. Do we have that now? How can we achieve that if not?” (reply Pex) “Doctor Gralen and I will work together to find what we believe to be the minimum velocity we will need.” (reply Pex, Solice) (posted by Al Muir) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Argos - Aft Section - CMO Commander Quinna Solice - 0235) Quinna tended to Piripi with kid gloves. Quinna administered some pain relievers and “Quinna,” T’Mur said calmly, “how is the ensign?” “She is stable but I will be much happier to have her in my sickbay,” Quinna replied. Quinna sat back with the ensign as the others continued working on the issue. Quinna set the portable monitor to an audio alert as Quinna decided to take her own advice and close her eyes a bit. (USS Argos -- Aft Section -- CMO Commander Quinna Solice -- 0535) Quinna awoke to notice Lt. Pex next to the Ensign. She only made slits in her eyes to make it appear that she was still sleeping but made some keen observation. It became obvious that Pex was going to stay, and Quinna spoke up. “She will be fine,” Quinna said, “She will feel better when she wakes. No damage.” (Reply Pex) Things started to shake. The shimmy was more wild than anticipated. (Reply Any) (Posted by Kris B) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Argos - Flight Deck - CEO - Lieutenant Jg Tegian Pex - 0236) Tegian was very worried about Kestral. There shouldn't have been any feedback. He'd done everything to make sure the energy draw wouldn't affect her and he was consumed by guilt to see her collapse. He hovered over her inert form, staying out of Quinna's form, but vowing to do everything to make it up to the unconscious ensign if she somehow survived. “Lt. Pex, how is Ensign Piripi’s visor?” Lieutenant Commander's question snapped Tegian out of his guilt stricken thoughts. He quickly looked at the tricorder. The readings of her VISOR showed absolutely nothing. He couldn't explain what had happened to her. "The VISOR is fine. I don't understand what happened to her, Commander. This shouldn't have happened." Then the Commander gave him the distraction he needed. “Over the next two hours and fifty minutes I want you to see how much power we can put into the nacelles. I am assuming that we will need , at the least, full impulse power to cross the barrier, if not warp 1. Do we have that now? How can we achieve that if not?” "I will drain every phaser power pack we have." He did the calculations in his head. "We'll need to get into the space suits and turn off the life support systems and funnel everything to the nacelles. I can't guarantee warp, however. We still don't understand the physics of this dimension. I don't know if warp is achievable. But, you'll have enough power for full impulse for at least ten minutes." Tegian looked at Doctor Solice, meaninfully, touched Ensign Piripi gently on the shoulder and then went to work draining all the phaser power cells into the shuttles reserves. While that was going on, he pulled out enough suits for everyone, checking them methodically to make sure each was in working condition and muttering under his breath as he had to repair a few. He resisted shooting any looks at the Commander. (reply Any) (poste by Keith) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Argos - Flight Deck - 2O/CSec/Tac - Lt Commander T’Mur - 0237) “I can't guarantee warp,” Pex said. “ We still don't understand the physics of this dimension. I don't know if warp is achievable. But, you'll have enough power for full impulse for at least ten minutes." T’Mur nodded, “That will have to be enough, Lieutenant. Do what you can.” She turned to the others. “Everyone needs to get in EVA suits, now. I will be shutting down the life support in fifteen minutes. We’ll have three hours of breathable atmosphere in our suits. This is it people. We will get through that barrier and the Raptor will be there, waiting for us. Let’s get ready.” (USS Argos - Flight Deck - 2O/CSec/Tac - Lt Commander T’Mur - 0530) The last three hours had not been the most comfortable in T’Mur’s life. Once the life support had been shut down they had managed to save more power than first estimated. Pexed had worked his magic to put a full charge in the thruster batteries. If things aligned correctly they might be able to hit warp speed for a few seconds. Enough to cross the harmonic barrier. T’Mur and Gralen had worked out the math and the science. The timing was going to have to be impeccable. Closing her eyes she took a moment to try and reach along the thread of the bond that connected her to Sienna, in hopes that Luma’s influence would be able to deliver it. Hope? Such a human emotion. She was constantly reminded of how much her bond with the Betzoid has influenced her own emotional state. It was not always logical, but then again she had never been the most logical of Vulcans. An observation that had been made by all of her mentors. But now, she realized, that was all okay. She held onto her logic, and still managed her emotions, except when it came to Sienna. She longed to be with her mate again. Now she sat in the copilot seat and looked over at Tempest, “Are you ready Lieutenant Grey Wolf?” The native american nodded. She looked over at Pex, “Are you ready, Mr. Pex?” (reply Pex) “Hold on everyone,” she called back to the others in the aft section, “this might be a little bumpy.” (reply any) T’Mur looked over at Grey Wolf again and nodded. Simultaneously they activated the maneuvering thrusters and then the impulse engines. The shuttle lurched forward as the front view port showed the barrier shimmer into place. The shuttle shot towards it. T’Mur shut down the impulse engines and let momentum of the ship carry it towards the barrier. She transferred every erg of energy to the warp controls. Everything else in the ship was shut down. Condensation dripped from the panels and walls. Then T’Mur tapped in the sequence to send the energy to the warp core calling out, “Now, Tempest.” The pilot took over and the scene in the view port phased as the ship hit the barrier. (reply any) (posted by Al Muir) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Illuminar - Deck 1 - Main Engineering - aFO - Commander Alex Karnovskyy - 0531) Karnovsky sat in the command chair like he owned it, with a confidence that he did not really possess. He was a little uncomfortable having supplanted the Vice Admiral as commander of the vessel, but as she put it, he had more current experience in action than she has had over the past twenty years. “It was his show now.” The reports came in from all of the departments that everyone was ready. Two sets of sensor sweeps were constantly active. A long range, wide sweep, covering the entire area; and a short range, deeper scan in the area that they hoped the Argos had disappeared through. He stretched his arms and stood up. “Signal the Raptor and let them know that we are in position.” “Aye sir,” replied the Ops officer. “Raptor replied that they are ready as well.” “Well, as we say in Moscow, a watched samovar never boils,” Sash said with a smile. “All we can do now is wait.” He wandered around the bridge, then stood behind the command chair, drumming his fingers on it. For a man of action, waiting was not his forte. Fortunately he did not have long to wait. “Commander, something is happening,” came the call from the science station. “There’s a change in the harmonics in the field. Putting it on screen.” The overlay of the area showed up and patches of shifting harmonics shimmered into view. “If something is going to happen, it’s going to happen in one of these zones,” the scientist said. “These three are all about the right harmonic convergence.” Karnovksyy sat back back down, “Then we’ll need to be quick to identify which one it is. Be ready.” (reply none, any) (posted by Al Muir) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Raptor - Deck 1 - Bridge - ATAC/SO - Lt. Andy Taylor - 0532) Taylor had decided to get an early start. It wasn’t like he had been able to sleep. T’Mur was missing, and evn through her Vulcan demeanor he liked his boss. He also knew that her being missing was affecting the FO. Checking their coordinates he knew that they were close so he joined with the science team and started taking tactical scans of the area. As they got closer he moved from long range scans to more intense short range scans. That was when he noticed something unusual. He pulled up the data sent to them from the Illuminar and the Boardwalk Jazz. His eyes widened. “Helm, all stop,” he called out. He opened a comm channel, “Captain to the bridge.” (reply Sekal) “Get me the Illuminar,” he ordered (reply Winters) When the captain arrived, he knew he was going to have to talk fast to explain calling the ship to a halt. “Sir, it would be easier to show you than tell you,” he explained. “Look at the main viewer.” He changed the viewer from the usual pictorial representation of the sector they were in to an energy displacement view. There was a marker to indicate the Raptor and the Illuminar in position. Surrounding both ships were a series of dark patches. “Those dark patches,” he moved over to the screen and pointed to what he was talking about, “are patches of unstable areas of the universe. Quantum patches, similar to a quantum filament, but more localized and concentrated. They are vibrating at different harmonic frequences. And I mean each of them are a different harmonic.” (reply Sekal) (posted by Al Muir) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Argos - Flight Deck - CEO - Lieutenant Jg Tegian Pex - 0533) Tegian had offloaded everything he could think of into the shuttle's reserves. He had scoured every bin in the shuttle and found additional power cells which he had transferred to the shuttle. The shuttle had as much power as he could give it without being able to restore the antimatter. And, he had managed to save three phaser power cells, just in case. He'd lined them up in front of the Lieutenant Commander. "I managed to save these, Commander. I'm not sure what we might find on the other side, provided we make it. Do you want an armed phaser? And, if so, who should have the other two?" (Reply T'Mur) After everyone had gotten into their EVA suits, Tegian checked them and made sure they were all properly secured. Once everything was ready Tegian reported to the Lieutenant Commander. "Commander, we're ready to go whenever you are." “Hold on everyone,” the Lieutenant Commander called back to the others in the aft section, “this might be a little bumpy.” Tegian made sure that the still unconscious Ensign Piripi was secured as she could be and that he sat next to her, ready to support her if things got bad. (reply any) (posted by Keith) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Raptor - Level 1 - Bridge - SFI/aFO - Lt. Michael Weston - 0535) “Lieutenant,” Taylor called out in surprise. “Something is happening at 105 mark 3.” “Adjust the view screen,” Weston ordered. The view of the star field shifted and there was a shimmering around one of the quantum patches. Everyone on the bridge was holding their breaths when suddenly there was subspace discharge that rocked the Raptor. In the middle of the discharge a shuttle started to emerge. It seemed to be sliding into their quantum realm sideways. Suddenly it began to slow down and seemed stuck half way through. “Can we lock tractors on it?” the aFO asked. “Give me a moment,” came the reply from the science station. “A moment may be all we have,” he muttered to himself. “Adjusting the harmonics to the tractor wave… annnd… got it. Lieutenant, I have a lock. But we’ll need help to pull them all the way through, without ripping the shuttle to pieces.” “Contact the Illuminar,” Weston ordered. =^=Karnovskyy here. We see the situation with your shuttle. It seems you are holding them together. How can we help.=^= Karnovskyy’s thick Russian accent came over the comm. “My science officer is going to send you the harmonic frequency we’re using to hold onto the Argos. We need you to grab them from where you are and help pull them through.” There was a moment of silence. =^=I concur. Our science intern… officer suggests that we modify our tractors slightly before we engage.=^= “I’ll take his word for it,” Weston said with a shrug. =^=Initiating tractor beam… now.=^= The second tractor beam attached to the Argos and slowly the ship was pulled through the breach in the subspace field. “Sir,” Taylor reported, “the Argos has no power… at all. It’s a dead ship.” Michael’s heart jumped, “Life signs?” “Six life signs, all faint,” Taylor replied. “We won’t be able to beam them out through all of that subspace interference.” Weston sighed, “Well drag them out of there, while we still have life signs. I want a lock on all of them.” Tavay at Ops interjected, “We can’t just pull them straight out, Lt. Weston. They might fall into another patch. If we take turns with the Illuminar to pull in different directions we should be able to get them clear.” “Did you hear that Commander Karnovskyy?” Weston asked. =^=I did indeed. I am connecting my Ops officer with yours. They can work in tandem.=^= “Acknowledged,” Weston said, looking at Tavay. The Romulan nodded as the link between the two ships was set. Weston watched as her hands danced over the control for the tractor beams, and then to the screen as he saw the shuttle shift one way and then the other. Both ships would move while they worked to avoid other quantum pockets of space. “The Argos is clearing the field now, sir,” Tavay reported. Weston turned to Taylor, “Transport all of them to sickbay, now.” He tapped his comm badge, “Weston to sickbay, six incoming from the Argos, Doctor Kyllee.” =^=We’re ready here, Michael,=^= came the reply from the Bajoran, who’d never really go used to the ranks. Weston stood up and headed to the turbo lift, “Andy, you have the bridge.” He tapped his comm badge, “Weston to Sekal, we have the command staff in sickbay, sir.” (reply Sekal, any on the Argos) (posted by Al Muir) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (USS Argos - Flight Deck - 2O/CSec/Tac - Lt Commander T’Mur - 0538) Shuttle bucked and shuddered as it entered the gateway. Pex had done a phenomenal job getting power to the engines. As they hit the energy field they were at full impulse. She shook her head. They were not going to be able to cross the dimensional rift without warp. There was only one thing she could do. She rerouted every erg of power into the warp drive. It wouldn’t last long and it would take everything the shuttle had, but all she needed was less than a second of a warp bubble and then momentum should take them across. Of course, that meant that there would be absolutely nothing left when they emerged and the only breathable air was what was remaining on the shuttle, in their EVA suits. She checked her reserves. She had less than five minutes remaining. With her breathing control that could be doable, as long as the Raptor was ready for them. The humans, on the other hand, did not have her control, and most likely had less. Still, if they didn’t cross now, they most likely would not make it back. It wasn’t logical, but she did have to… hope… that they were there. With a final tap of the controls the ship burst into warp drive. The control panel shut down, with no power left. Without inertial dampeners it was like being merged with her seat. And just as quickly they emerged from warp space and the Vulcan could see the other side of the gateway. But the ship suddenly started to slow down. They were stuck, half in one dimension and half in the other. She had lost track of how much time they had before the gateway closed and sliced the ship in half. Then she felt something grab the shuttle and begin to pull it through. Finally they were free of the energy field. But they were powerless to do anything else. T’Mur looked at the others, almost apologetically, knowing that every second used up their air supply. The shuttle rocked side to side as it suddenly got pulled in a different direction. Then again in another direction. The only logical thought was that there was another ship assisting the Raptor. Inside her suit she could feel the cold start to seep in, and the air start to thin. An alert went off warning her of the lack of oxygen level in her suit. Slowly, but surely she watched as each member of the crew succumbed to unconsciousness. Finally, her own vision started to narrow to pin points and finally disappeared. Stev fought the urge to call him “Captain Mike.” Much to the man’s own dismay, Michael Weston had been born to command others. It always came out in times of extreme need. But he wanted to fight it to be the lone wolf protector. The shimmer of the transporter deposited the six passengers of the Argos in his sickbay. He quickly had them moved to individual biobeds. One of the beds immediately started sounding alerts. The heart of T’Mur had stopped. Stev picked up the cardiac-stimulator. He worked the controls of the biobed and the Vulcan’s uniform disappeared in the shimmer of the transporter effect. He attached the stimulator to her lower rib area, cursing the placement of the Vulcan heart. Then he sent a charge through her body. Nothing changed. “Epinephrine,” called out. A hypospray was applied and he reset the stimulator. Another charge went through T’Mur. It was returned with a satisfying beep reading her heart. He stepped back and smiled. “Not today, my friend,” he said, “not today.” “Who’s he talking to,” one of the nurses asked. “Death,” Klinger replied. “The doc takes his relationship with death quite personally, and relishes in denying him another soul.” The rest all had similar diagnoses, oxygen deprivation and minor frost bites. The use of dermal regenerators healed the flesh. Triox compound injections healed the effects of the lack of oxygen. And slowly, one by one, they all regained consciousness. Kyllee greeted each of them with a huge smile and a welcome back. He put a supportive hand on their shoulders as a nurse applied a hypospray of nutrients to counteract the fact that they hadn’t eaten in two days. Now that he had a moment he looked up to see Michael Weston standing against the wall. Being noticed Michael stepped forward, “Doctor, how’s everyone.” Stev could see Michael’s eyes constantly move to Quinna. “Cap’n.” He smiled with the reference of they time on the Rhyne. “Everyone is going to live. Even T’Mur.” He paused, saw Weston, once again glance over to Quinna. “Go ahead. She’s fine and could probably use a friendly face. Especially the one that saved her.” Weston stepped past the doctor and moved over to Quinna. He bent over and pulled her into a long, loving embrace, only imagining what the conversation was. He tapped his comm badge, “Kyllee to Sekal, the crew from the Argos are all still alive… now. They are all coming around. T’Mur may take a little more time.” (reply Sekal) Stev smiled as he watched his team work and everyone start to show the positive signs of life. She had not been able to feel T’Mur, and there was a blank space still where her mate should have been. After they had attempted and failed to contact T’Mur with Temas and Luma, Sy had been sedated, to stop the psychic hell of not having her mate bond with her T’Mur. Sy held her breath as Stev worked on T’Mur, trying to pull her back from the hand of death. Moments passed as Sy felt something inside of her snap, almost painfully, back into place. Darkness touched the edges of her vision as that place inside her filled with the light of the soul of her mate, warming the coldness that had held her in thrall for the last few days. She had been so lonely, consumed by the grief that was the loss of her mate-bond. She had to believe that T’Mur was still alive in spite of what her bond had been saying. When Stev finally moved away from T’Mur, Sy had pushed her way in, and took T’Mur’s hand in her own, lacing her fingers through her mate’s cold ones and holding on as hard as she could. She had been weaned off the telepathic suppressants so that she could assist in locating her mate, not that she had been able to. This area of space was going to be studied by Starfleet, and she was looking forward to the reports - from a scientific standpoint. Sy saw T’Mur’s eyes fluttering, and projected through the touch ::I searched for you, with Temas and Luma and I could not find you. I was so afraid. Please don’t leave me.:: So much emotion in her telepathic tone. T’Mur took a deep breath. Her eyes opened and the light from the sickbay burned into the backs of her eyes. Then there was another pain, in the back of her brain. A flood of emotion poured into her. The touch from Sienna had activated her telepathic connection with a dizzying immediacy. And now her brain was filled with her mates love and fear. Sy very quickly freed one of her hands and shaded T'Mur's eyes from the brightness. ::I have never left you.:: Suddenly she became aware that she was no longer clothed. Her eyes finally focused on Sienna’s face and then she looked at Kyllee. “Why am I naked?” Sy peered down at her mate as Stev stammered. ::Your heart ceased to beat. They had to resuscitate you.:: Her heart was pounding as T'Mur's eyes adjusted. She couldn't block pain the way vulcans could. “Ahhh, yeahhh…,” the doctor replied, “I had to remove them to provide treatment for your cardiac arrest.” T’Mur thought for a moment and then nodded, “That is an acceptable reason. Thank you Doctor.” Sienna choked back a half laugh, half sob at T'Mur's response to the Doctor. “I’ll leave you two alone,” Kyllee said as he went to check out the other patients. ::Sienna, there is a blank period in your mind. What has happened? Are you alright?:: ::You are worried about me?:: Sy asked incredulous. Figuring it was more important to get it over with than to protect her mate, Sy moved the hand cautiously shielding her mate's eyes to T'Mur's cheek, pressing her fingers into the spots of the meld. She could not initiate the meld, waiting for her mate to do so, Betazoid dark eyes meeting those of her mate. T’Murs hands moved instinctively. She found the pressure points on the side of her mates face and pressed on, feeling the pulse of her blood. Their minds quickly began to wind around each other. It was a well practiced move that took seconds. Sienna surrendered her mind to her mate. The last few days flowed between them. Sienna's collapse into Sekal's arms as Luma had screamed when the shuttle had slipped dimensions. The merge with Temas and Luma. Admiral Winters’ report that she could not sense them. The feeling of utter desolation without the living warmth of her mate. The shock that her mind had gone into without T'Mur. ::I needed two days of sedation before they woke me up. I knew you were not dead, but you were gone. I need you. You are my stability, and my reason for living. Never leave me again. :: So much fear in her. ::I can't live in the icy loneliness of pain. It was like shards slicing my soul. And Luma, she keened and sang and tried to find you.:: slow tears rolled down Sienna's face as she communed with her mate. In the meld T’Mur didn’t just watch what happened, and hear Sienna’s words; she experienced each memory as if it were here own. She shared the raw emotion of loss , fear and pain. She shuddered at the cold feelings that had gone through her mate. She felt the loss and emptiness of missing a piece of her soul. A tear came to her eyes. ::Oh my love. I could hear Luma’s song. It was how I knew we were coming home. It was what kept me going. You had no such reassurances.:: She sat and dangled her legs off the edge of the table and pulled Sy into her loving embrace, still not realizing her state of undress fully. “Oh my love, how can we do this?” she asked. “How can we do our jobs with this fear hanging over us?” The meld broke between them, but the bond reasserted itself. She belonged to and with her mate. “I thought maybe we could consult Temas and Luma as well as Sekal and his father. There has to be a solution and I believe we can find it.” Sienna had fitted herself against T'Mur, tucking her head under her mate's chin. “I don't know when they will release you, but I imagine not for a few hours.” Sienna looked at one of the orderlies, who brought a StarFleet medical gown over and laid it beside T'Mur. Sienna picked the gown up, shaking it out and draped it over T'Mur's beautiful body, regretfully covering it. ::You are beautiful. My shining star, my guide and my love. We can navigate this. Just please, goddess don't leave me.:: Sy was going to need counseling. T’Mur lifted her mates chin up and kissed her gently, ::I will never leave.:: “Consulting Temas would seem a logical option,” she said in her most Vulcanesk voice as she shrugged on the gown. “Meanwhile, perhaps we should spend as much time together as possible.” She looked at the garment she was now covered in and looked at Sy with a questioning look, “Why is this garment referred to as a gown when it is neither long, nor for a formal occasion?” Sy snickered, “I have no idea. It is pretty ugly, I know, but I think it has purpose.” Sy hopped up next to T'Mur and laid her head on T'Mur's shoulder. ::You should rest. I will rest with you.:: T’Mur laid back, feeling the dull throb of her concussion as the medication she’d been given started to diminish. She pulled Sienna closely and closed her eyes, her mind relaxing as she fell asleep, allowing the mingling of their minds to give her some comfort. He harrumphed a little and looked at Weston. “You got some time?” Michael shrugged, “I got all the time in the world. Why?” Stev turned back to Quinna using a fatherly voice, “Alright young lady, I’ll release you for light duty as long as you are under somebody’s observation.” He indicated with his head to Michael. “He’ll do.” Michael’s eyes narrowed, “Let me get this straight. Why should anything be wrong with me? However, you had me a little worried.” He used his body to usher her into the CMO office and let the door close. He made sure that the blinds were closed in the observation window before he pulled Quinna into his arms. He held onto her tightly. Perhaps a little too tightly. The implants were meant to receive signals and translate them for her brain. In this case they were being used as transmitters. They just didn’t hold up to that strain.” He put a hand on his shoulder, “You can’t blame yourself. You were working outside of the parameters of her VISOR. And there was really no way to know how the space you were in would affect the communication.” Tegian nodded and then sighed in relief. “Could… could I read up on her implants? When we were trapped in the shuttle with no power, I had no access to anything about her VISOR or implants. I had to learn about her VISOR by using what spare parts were in the shuttle and running dummy programs on the available PADDs to try and get information on its capabilities. While the implants are your realm, the VISOR is going to be my responsibility and I should know how it’s all supposed to work.” He looked over at the Ensign. “I don’t want to put her in danger like that again if I can help it.” Stev shrugged, “It’s not restricted material so I’m sure there’s no problem with you having access. Bohb might be a big help with that. Sounds like something right up his alley. As far as putting her in danger, that’s as much her decision as anyone else’s. I can’t imagine T’Mur not voicing a similar concern at the time.” Tegian nodded. “Good idea. “Bohb has been a good mentor and friend. We had little choice in the matter with respect to using the Ensign’s VISOR. No one could come up with any other method in trying to send a call for help. And, yes the Commander and the Doctor were concerned with the choice.” Stev put a hand on the engineer's shoulder, “If there’s one thing I’ve learned in my years it’s you can’t hold yourself accountable for the decisions of someone else. Even if it’s someone you care about.” Tegian stiffened. “No, that’s not it, Doctor. It was my duty to protect her from my work. Just like it was my responsibility to make sure that I did everything to make sure that Lieutenant Tempest had every erg available to her to make sure the shuttle got out of that dimension and the EV suits were as safe as I could make them. Anything but my best to make sure the technology works. That’s what worries me.” Stev shrugged, “Well you’re here now, Tegian, so I guess you must have done your job.” Tegian nods. “Looks like it. Thanks for the talk, doctor. Am I allowed to leave? It’s been a while since I’ve eaten, showered or slept in a comfortable position and I’d like to do all three, although not at the same time. And I might have to do the showering before anyone will let me eat outside my quarters.” Stev chuckled, “You must have heard my prescription for the others.” Tegian shook his head. “No, but Pex was a doctor in another host. Common sense and I can smell myself. Most unpleasant.” Tegian looked around the room at the others interacting. “I didn’t want to interrupt or eavesdrop on any of them, so I was reviewing all my decisions over the past few days and trying to decide what I should have done differently knowing what I know now. I don’t have enough information to have made any other decisions, so I’m just going to have to be satisfied with the ones I made and leave it at that.” Tegian got up from his biobed. “Do you have clothes for us or are we expected to leave in these ridiculous gowns?” Kyllee nodded to one of the techs who dropped Pex’s uniform on the edge of the bed. “There you go Tegian. And for your information, these gowns are utilitarian, not ridiculous.” With that he turned and left Pex to dress. Tegian laughed. “I wonder how often you’ve had to be in one, Doctor.” Tegian said, “Thank you,” to the tech. And then he got dressed and left Sickbay to return to his quarters for a shower, food at the Officer’s mess and then back to his quarters for as much sleep as he wanted. "Excellent. Helm, to Tellar, warp 5." "Aye sir, warp 5." There was a beeping noise from the retractable terminal in the command chair arm, Sekal tapped the extension control and monitored the ships entry into warp as it locked into place at full extension. This part of the operation had been successful, the shuttle and crew had been recovered and they were en- route to Tellar. The message was not unexpected. He took his time perusing it then looked up. "Second Lieutenant Temerity." “Yes, Sir?” The marine had been assisting during the search for the senior officers. Sekal motioned him closer. "I received a dispatch from command concerning you." (Reply: Temerity) He tapped a button and the display retreated. "Your field promotion to command of the marine contingent due to the death of the major has been duly recognized. Once we have swapped crews and returned to the Illuminar you will be in command of the squad there." (Reply: Temerity) The Vulcan crossed his legs. "This comes with a promotion to full Lieutenant which will take effect upon return to the ship. Congratulations."
