(USS Mystique - waste disposal and recycling tanks - Ensign Jason Dema, Cassandra Dema, marines Dickenson, Charles, James - 2332)

Some time has passed, and Jason was regaining counsiousness.

"Wake up the girl and tie her to a chair or anything, as long as she can't run away."

Charles tied the girl against a steel ladder, and woke her up and taped her mouth. To make sure she wouldn't make a noise, Dickenson stood betwoon the line of sight. He started slapping Jason's face to wake him up.

"Come on you little brat, wake up."

It wasn't long after that Jason woke up, and started to come to senses.

"Finally, I was almost thinking of retiring. Okay kid, this is the situation, you are our prisoner, we are marines from the Dian Chang, we are looking for the probe, and guess who's gonna give us the location?"

"Do you really think I would tell something like that? How stupid are you?"

"Not as stupid as you think."

Dickenson moved out of the way, so Jason and Cassandra could see each other.

"YOU BASTARDS, LET HER GO, SHE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS!!!!!!!"

"Au contraire mon ami, she is a valuable key to finding the probe, and if you still reject to telling us, we'll have to do this, James."

James stood in front of Cassandra, and slapped her on the face with full force, making her scream from the pain.

"STOP IT, LAY ONE MORE FINGURE ON HER AND..."

"James, " Dickenson interrupted. "Lay a finger on her."

James put a finger on her shoulder, and smiled with a dirty, taunting smile.

"You were saying."

"LET HER GO."

"James."

James slapped her again.

"That one was for yelling, now, keep quiet, and tell us where the probe is, or James will keep hitting her."

~I'm sorry Vanyssa, I hope you'll forgive me~

"James."

"Stop..." James stopped before hitting Cassandra. "I'll tell you."

"I see your love for your sister is bigger then your loyalty, I love that in an enemy, now tell me, where is the probe?"

"It's in the marine staging area."

"Now we're getting somewhere, so far for the first question, now, tell me, why is the 52nd rebelling against the federation."

"If anyone is the rebel here, it's you, the 52nd is out to explore, make new contacts, to do anything we can, to further the cause of the federation, and if your admiral has something against that, then fuck him, I'll bet you'll even like to."

Jason grinned, looking at the marine.

"Maybe I'll do your sister, what do you think about that."

"Then pray I'll never see you again untied, cause then you'll know your last second has struck, and no one in your family will survive."

Dickenson didn't seemed to like the answer, and made a powerfull kick in Jason's stomach, making Jason fall over with the chair. Dickenson walked over to Cassandra, and grabbed her throat and started to squeeze, she was starting to choke when he suddenly held himself, and walked back to Jason.

"You know, you just convinced me, When me and my pals get off this ship, we'll be taking her with us, she'll be re-educated, put in a host-family, and in the end, she'll forget all about you, leaving the memory of you as a mere shimmering, incapable of stopping the love she'll get, wich you can't give her."

Jason was still gasping for air, and couldn't talk, while Dickenson continued.

"Now, you be a good boy, and maybe we'll let you live. Guys, let's get that probe."

Dickenson stood up gathering his equipment, just like the other 2, they made a short and fast plan.

"I'll create a diversion, you guys make sure, that when most are out, they won't come back in, meaning, try to put up forcefields or lock the doors, Anything that will keep them out long enough to destroy the probe. It is now 2349. I'll set off the first Diversion at 0100, should be time enough to put something up. Okay, move out."

The three marines went their way, Dickenson, out to make sure James and Charles would have as less as opposition as possible, while the other two would do something to keep out therest of the crew, and destroy the probe. God only know what will happen next.

The marines were about to leave, but Dickenson suddenly stopped and turned.

"STOP, NEW PLAN."

James and Charles lookes at each other, wondering what was going on and went back to Dickenson to hear about the new plan.

"I suddenly realised, one putting up a diversion will be too few, we'll need at least 2 persons to distract them, leaving only one to destroy the probe... any volunteer?"

The young marine instantly stepped forward saying he would do it, before James had the time to say anything.

"Are you sure you want to do this?"

"Yes Sir, I am." replied the young marine, the strong look in his face convinced Dickenson, he could do it, but his chances were slim, even if he himself went.

"James, give him all the grenades you have left except 2, he'll need them more then us, you'll get mine too, be sure to use them."

"Yes Sir, I won't dissapoint you."

Dickenson turned away, about to leave on his mission, he looked back at the young marine, knowing it could be the last time he would ever see him.

"Come back alive kid, I see a great marine in you." This was one of the few times Dickenson smiled, it was like his own good luck charm he gave away to people. He turned around again and stepped forward. "now, let's move out. And remember, 0100"

The three marines went their own way, Dickenson and James out to risk their life to make diversions, Charles, on the impossible mission to destroy the probe.

(USS Mystique - everywhere and nowhere - marines Dickenson, Charles and James - 0100)

Dickenson had found his way to a tube near the bridge, placing a small charge there and waiting for the 0100. James was near the mess-hall, waiting to set off his charges too, while Charles was waiting in the tube next to the staging area. 0100 Struck, and Dickenson and James both set off their charges, creating 2 small explosions, one on the bridge, and another in the mess-hall. Charles heard the commotion in the staging area, of marines packing their gear and moving out.

"YOU FIVE, PROTECT THE PROBE AT ALL COSTS." He heared, meaning he had to go up against 5 marines in BDU. ~Well, these grenades will defenitly come in handy.~

James already made his way near sickbay, around wich he had put 2 charges, setting them of at exactly the same time. Dickenson in the mean while, had set off a charge over the Captain's room, hoping he would harm the Captain. Both James and Dickenson had the fusion reactors in mind to charge next, and made their way down there, while planting charges all around the ship, on their way down, making a detour, or even turn back, not to reveal their present location or heading. Charles in the meanwhile crawled up to a hatch after the commotion was gone, meaning most have left to stop the intruders. He opened the hatch in front of him, seeing the probe and the marines in front of him. He forcefully pushed the hatch open, making it fly toward the probe, immediatly followed by 2 grenades. The marines set up in front of the probe, to protect it. The grenades exploded, launching the marines away, but not harming the probe, cause the blast was blocked by the marines. ~One or two left~. He set
his rifle to a high setting, rolled out of the tube and fired several round at the marine still standing. He heard someone yell to get back to the staging area to protect the probe. He immediatly stood up, and ran up to the probe. When suddenly a higher ranking officer entered the staging area, firing several round his way, forcing Charles to take cover. The probe was within his grasp, he could almost touch it. He returned fire on a wide spread, hoping he would hit anything. He then took his last 2 grenades, activated them with a 30 seconds trigger, and jumped towards the probe. He suddenly fell a phaser hit his legs. and even if the vapiration took only a mere second, it seemed like it took ages. He released the grenades, feeling the pain of his legs beeing erased from existance. his body and arms falling the same fate, leaving his mind only with the comfort, of seeing the 2 grenades land near the probe, before his vision, and his entire beeing left the dimension, passing on to the
 next.

Charles and James met each other in the tubes near the fusion reactors, and before they heard set of their charges there, they heard a big explosion, coming from wich seemed the staging area.

"He must have done it, let's give him an opening to retreat."

They cleared the area, and set off their charges, resulting in several small explosions around the fusion reactors, but to small to harm anything to badly. Charles and Dickenson went back to their hideout, to welcome the marine that destroyed the probe.

(USS Mystique - waste disposal and recycling tanks - marines Dickenson and James - 0206)

The marines waited and waited for Charles to return...... but he never came. Dickenson suddenly attacked the young officer Dema.

"IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT, YOU PLANNED THIS, THERE WAS NO PROBE WAS THERE, ONLY AN AMBUSH, YOU ASSHOLE, YOU KILLED HIM."

Dickenson kept kicking the young officer, till even blood flowed out of his mouth. James intervened and stopped Dickenson, trying to calm him down.

"STAY CALM SIR, NOW IS NOT THE TIME TO GRIEF OVER LOSSES. WE HAVE TO FIND A NEW PLACE TO HIDE."

Dickenson looked angry at James, feeling betrayed, but he soon realised his words and came to senses. He looked around the room for a bit, looked at the young officer, lookes at the girl, still tied up to the ladder.

"Your right, let's go, leave him here, he would only slow us down, take the girl only, and let's go somewhere safe."

James untied the girl, and gave her her clothes Dickenson brought along.

"You can change over there if you like, and be sure to return, or you'll pay with the life of your brother."

Cassandra did as the marine told her, and put on her clothes, few minutes after she came back.

"Now, keep quiet and be a good girl, or you'll die, the first moment you make a noise."

"Let's get going."

They set off to find a new hiding spot, leaving the young officer behind

Stardate: 2406.10.25

(USS Night's Watch - Bridge - Capt Richard Ian Lee, (Mystique) Captain Vanyssa Winters - 0500)

Rich signed off on the fuel consumption report for the last 48 hours and handed the PADD over. His First Officer took it without a word and went aft, leaving Rich the only officer on the raised command platform. He folded his hands together and kicked back in the command chair, it was the only way he could be comfortable, the Keltoi's were built for combat... not for someone his size.

He could have had a new chair made, he supposed, but somehow he had never gotten around to it. The uncomfortable thing kept him alert while in tight situations... of which, the 'Watch got into plenty.

"Sir, we're coming up on the Mystique's coordinates."

Rich quirked an eyebrow, "Run an unobtrusive scan."

"Sir, sensors show nothing, but there are some residual subspace anomalies around."

"Very well." He sat forward again, "Drop the cloak and open hailingfrequencies."

The lights brightened around him as they went out of Status Black. In his minds eye, he could just imagine what most people thought when the ugly profile of the Keltoi became visible. His operations officer said, "Channel open, Sir."

"This is Captain Lee of the Night's Watch, calling the USS Mystique." Rich ran a hand idly over several horizontal scars on his face, a legacy of an exploding console during the Dominion Wars. He did that like some men would rub their chin, in thought, and completely automatic.

Vanyssa paced her Bridge, as she had for the last several hours. They hadn't had the run in with the Dian Chang yet, and she was fully expecting some kind of trouble to result. The ship was still mostly in shambles, but they had torpedoes, 70% shields, and the cloak. They weren't going anywhere until all the repairs were complete, the Myste couldn't handle the power needed. She prayed they wouldn't have to run.

"Ship decloaking." Tactical said, which caused Vanyssa to spin and grin at the Keltoi that appeared.

"Shields ?"

"72%, Captain" Tactical said.

"Ship ID USS Night's Watch. We are being hailed."

"Decloak and put us onscreen." Vanyssa ordered, standing in front of her chair. She was surprised at the resemblance to her Rich Lee. "Captain Lee, it is a pleasure, that I wish could be under better circumstances. Shall I come there, or will you be coming here?" She said, cutting to the chase. It had not been a good couple of days.

Rich folded his hands together. "My ship, Captain, and Ill be beaming over a couple Marines to appraise the situation with your... troubled guests. Agreeable?"

Vanyssa turned slightly to nod at Oo'lish. "My bodyguard and I will be over, then. The guests are still asleep, Captain Lee. My Doctor says they should be for another day." Vanyssa nodded towards HHril. "You have the Bridge, Lt." Vanyssa turned back to the viewscreen. "I will see you in a few minutes, then, Captain."

Rich nodded and gestured, the screen cut off. He turned the chair to fully face his forward Tactical officer. "Send the brig warden and a Marine of your choice over to the Mystique, they've got several unhappy enemy Marines that they can't handle for much longer."

"On that lump of a ship, no doubt." was the response. Rich chuckled as he stood to his full seven foot plus height. "Keep an eye out; there is still a ship around here waiting to pound something. The Watch will be their surprise."

"Sir, yes Sir."

Lee walked over and through the doors and made his way into the Transporter room. He waited quietly until the Transporter Chief's panel beeped. "They are ready to beam over."

"Energize."

A few seconds passed, and two bodies formed on the pad. Rich, with his arms crossed behind him, nodded his head. "Captain Winters, welcome aboard the Watch."

"Thank you Captain Lee, this is my bodyguard Gunnery Sergeant Oo'lish.under my MCO's orders, she stays with me at all times. I'm sorry Captain, but we don't trust anyone these days."

Rich nodded and extended a hand to the door, "Welcome to the times." he said. He gave the Marine a good look, she gave him the same kind of appraising gaze. Never having been a Marine, he didn't know what was going through her head. But, he didn't really need too, not if her whole job right now was seeing that the Captain was safe.

Rich lead them into the Observation Lounge, and took one of the first seats available. They were infinitely more comfortable then the bridge command-chair. "So, how's your ship?"

Vanyssa blinked at the casual attitude that had invaded their carefully constructed politeness.

"She's in bad shape, Captain." Vanyssa slid the padd across the table. "But much better than she was 2 days ago. Most of the power relays have been rerouted so that everywhere has power, but there are no redundancies. We're still working on replacing the most critical ones. Shields are at 65-75% depending on the time of day and the weather. Three decks are still in shambles. Warp drive...warp1 is what we can manage. The cloak... for the most part is staying up. Phasers are still out, torpedoes are online. Internal sensors are still down in places, external are patchy." She
finished her summary, and leaned back in the chair. It was more comfortable than her observation room's and that was just not fair.

Rich took the PADD and scanned it as he listened. In bad shape, yeah, that was one way of putting it. "I can get you some engineering teams to help jury-rig her, and escort you to the yards if you like." he finally said as he put the PADD back down. He was about to say something else when his badge beeped and his Warden came over the line. =^=Captain, the Marines are all snoozing, it will be easy to move em over to our brig.=^=

"Very well, coordinate with security there and begin the transfer."

"Thank you. The teams would be extremely helpful." Vanyssa wondered how to say this, then just came out and said it. "There are two problems, one is that there is a spy aboard the Myste, the other is that we think that there are a couple of marines on the loose. We've come across evidence of sabotage. And one of my officers, as well as his sister, is missing. I know they are still on board, but security and the marines patrolling can't find them." Vanyssa concluded. She detailed the information that they had
retrieved from the enemy MCO, including the fact that her family was dead, her daughter missing, and the information about the probe that the Myste had secured. "It appears that this probe, which we haven't been able to access, is the reason that the Myste is on a search and destroy mission, Captain. And frankly, I am out of my depth." Vanyssa slid the recording of the interrogation across the table.

Rich took the recording and looked at her for long moments, obviously thoughtful. He tapped his badge a moment later, "XO, scan the Mystique, full power tactical scan. Record every life-sign, comm. badge, their location, and send that information on to the Mystique's security department. Leave no stone unturned."

=^=Aye Sir.=^=

"Tell me more about this interrogation." he finally said.

"I needed to know why my ship was being attacked. I needed to know what about it was so special. The enemy MCO unfortunately died during it. He was already wounded." Vanyssa tried to pass it off non-chalantly, but didn't quite manage it. The fact that she had ordered his death and watched him die in front of her eyes.... it haunted her.

"The one thing that he did say, which wasn't much, other than they were here to destroy the ship, capture me, and recover the probe, was that there is something called a Mystery Train that Doenitz is planning. The MCO did not have any information on it, though; he said that it was all about the Mystery Train." She sighed, leaning back. "I got to observe his memory of killing my only living adult relative first hand, Captain Lee." And Vanyssa's eyes grew harder and colder. It still angered her.

Rich thumbed the streaks of scars on his face in thought. He hadn't heard of Mystery Train, that was something he would have to talk to others about, there was one in particular that might come in use. There were, however, indications that several forces were beginning to move. It was worrisome, it indicated that Doenitz was about to take the war up a notch or two. He sighed and put his hand flat on the table, "We just found out about the murder, Captain, and it wasn't the only one... though so far it was the
most prominent. It seems they are seeking emotional leverage on certain people within our fleet. We are keeping it quiet, for the most part, because the people they are targeting have some very interesting positions to exploit."

Vanyssa nodded. "I want to know where my daughter is and I want her back." She was thankful that Lee was not going to give her grief over the revenge she had taken on her grandmother's killer.

That gave the Strategic Operations Commander pause. "Captain," he temporized. "She is being held deep within Federation Space. You can't just waltz in, not with anything less then a battle fleet, and have any hope of walking out again."

"You know where she is." Vanyssa accused.

"I do." he confirmed.

Vanyssa stood up, over Rich and leaned down. "Tell me." She hissed. She was
angry with LoDona for not telling her.

Rich looked up with his eyeballs, his expression melted. "Sit. Down." he said in a dangerous low voice, well punctuated and filled with enough menace to cause the bodyguard to stir.

Vanyssa shook her head. "Tell me where my daughter is." Vanyssa was not in a mood to be intimidated.

Rich sat back so he wasn't immediately under her. His tone lightened as he folded his hands together, "Let me reword this, sit down and listen, or Ill have you incarcerated, I have the rank and pull to do it and I'm not in the mood to deal with an emotional wreck. Pull yourself together, and do so quickly."

The doors to the Observation Lounge opened and three men barged in with weapons pulled. Rich's hand shot out and be barked "Hold!" at the same time the Gunnery Sergeant, Oo'lish, dropped to a knee with a phaser in hand. Rich's jaw worked as he pushed the chair away and refolded his hands. "I trust less then you, Captain, I know more about whom and what we face. Our conversation has been overheard since you came onboard. Now, sit down." He gestured to the guards again; they lowered their weapons to a ready position.

Vanyssa moved quickly behind Oo'lish. "And this is supposed to win my trust, Captain? I am no threat to you. Why do you think that Lee forces me to have Oo'lish with me? Your men are not needed. You've read my file. Am I a threat to you?" Vanyssa demanded to know. She had still not sat down. She would not until Oo'lish thought things were safe for her to do so.

Rich folded his hands together and said nothing. War had made stranger things happen. His eyes rested on the bodyguard, who was still looking around. Slowly, she put her own pistol down, still in a ready position, just as his own guards had done. Once several seconds had passed, he dismissed his own guards. "Only come if you hear my voice," he instructed.

Once that was over, he decided to answer her. "I could take you down easily enough, Captain, your bodyguard is another question. And since there is no doubt in my mind that Ms Oo'lish here follows your commands, I'm taking no chances."

Vanyssa resisted the urge to smile at the thought of being taken down. It sounded vaguely kinky, and she, in her own way, was attracted to Rich Lee.

"She is one of six people that I entirely trust aboard the Mystique, Captain." Vanyssa then sat down. "That was a rude trick you just played." She frowned at him. "And I am not an emotional wreck."

"You were saying before we were interrupted?" Vanyssa said coolly, her mood changing again.

Rich quirked an eyebrow, and took a moment to gather his thoughts. "As I was saying, you're ship is in shambles, you're not a combat captain nor particularly trained in hiding and subversion, nor is your crew. And even better, she is being held deep within Federation space, so you might manage to make it to her... but you would die coming back."

Vanyssa blinked, hope draining out of her. She slumped a bit. "Then what?" She asked, her voice and emotions numb. She was normally a bundle of emotions but over the last couple of days, she had run the gambit several times.

"Then nothing," Rich said in a toneless voice. "This is going to sound cold and calculating, but one person is not worth the lives of several hundred others. It's a matter of cold hard numbers."

Vanyssa looked up, her blue eyes wide and large in fear. "She is the only thing of David that I have left, Rich. I can't leave her in enemy hands. LoDona said you would help me. Rich says that you are an excellent tactician. And that I should be very wary of you."

Rich tapped his fingers on the table and looked at her, thinking. "Captain, I've done a lot of stupid things. I've put my ship in danger on this scale before and come out alive. However, I did so knowing that secrecy and surprise were on my side. You wouldn't have that, they would be expecting you, that is the point of all this. You would be playing right into their hands. I could plan a mission profile for this, sure, but the odds of success would be so long as to be near impossible."

"Being that leaving Kat there is not an option; tell me how I'm going to get her out. Or how you are going to get her out. Because she is not staying there."

~Bloody hard headed woman,~ he thought clearly, knowing the Captain was a telepath and might be listening in. Finally, he shook his head. "First thing's first. We get your ship together. If she can't pass muster, I won't so much as tell you what quadrant she's in, I will not send you off to certain death for no good reason to the fleet."

He took up, "You will have Engineering teams shortly. Keep in Mind, Captain..." he said. "My duty is to the fleet, not to you. You might be able to give Doenitz a kick in the balls with this, so we will see. Until I'm sure you have at least a small chance of survival, however, the 52nd wouldn't be served by sending you off."

Rich's return smile was evil; he covered it after a second and walked over to one of the windows. "Her command crew is fanatical; she is an able enough ship. But, she's now prey." He folded his hands behind his back, "It shouldn't take long, the Watch has teeth."

"Jaelle seems unsure of herself. She is sure of her loyalty to Doenitz, but didn't seem to have the heart to destroy me. She could have easily, Lee, with the shield frequency codes she had. She wanted to retake the ship rather than destroy it. She really wanted me to face trial for my crimes." Vanyssa got quiet for a second. "She is also very new to her captaincy."

"Hmm, I like the sound of that." Rich mused after a few seconds. "She is still tainted by the light. "Then I Will deal with her as I must, Captain."

Vanyssa nodded. "Do you trust me, Richard Lee of the Night's Watch?" Vanyssa realized that she had been asking that question a lot recently.

Rich hung his head for a moment, then slowly turned back to face the new Captain. He kept his hands behind his back as he looked at her, openly appraising her for the first time. "I don't know you," he said finally. "Trust requires intimate knowledge of another. Let us say, rather, that I expect you will do your duty, and that your loyalty runs properly to the proper ideal of Starfleet. If I had thought otherwise, it would be unlikely that you would have been given command, LoDona trusts my judgment."

Vanyssa nodded. "That's good enough for me. I do not trust you, Captain Lee. I think that you are a cold hearted bastard. I do however, believe that you are competent and I trust other's judgment of you. I do not like you. But I need your help. And I thank you for it." She stepped back. "The saboteurs aboard my ship are emitting a comm signal, coded for the Dian Chang. We became aware of it yesterday evening, blocked it, and
unblocked it when you showed up. She should be here within the day. With your help,
my ship can be a help instead of a hindrance." Vanyssa paused. "As for who the spy is, I do not know, and won't know until he makes another move. I do not even have a suspicion."

Rich nodded; "We will find the spy and deal with the rebel ship." he turned back to the window. "And Captain," he said after a pause, "You can call me a cold hearted bastard, but don't presume to judge me until you've had a crack at command of the strategic assets of this fleet. Only LoDona has ordered more men to die then I have, I do not take those lives lightly." He took a breath, "That is all Captain, Dismissed."

The motion of the words hit Vanyssa and she realized that she had hurt him. As he dismissed her, she moved closer and hugged him from behind. "Thank you."

Rich stiffened briefly, unsure how to deal with this. Finally, he said, "If you would, Captain..." he broke away and turned. "I know you have a Major Lee aboard, but we are not the same man, you do not know me."

She backed off a pace. "I am, was a Counselor. You are not my Rich. My Rich...is not so cold, not so hard. And the Counselor's handbook says that you needed a hug." She said with a slight smile, turning away from him so he wouldn't see her frown, though he could hear it in her voice.. "I ordered death for the first time the other day; saw it for the first time. That emotion is in you. That was my apology for calling it forth. And an
attempt to make things right. I am sorry it failed."

"So am I," he finally said. "Good day, Captain."

Vanyssa nodded, and left the Observation Lounge, Oo'lish behind her.

Rich turned back once the door had closed, "XO, see that the Mystique gets a handful of Engineering teams, and put us on yellow alert, odds are we are going to have company within the next twenty-four hours."

=^=Aye, Captain=^=

Rich sighed and closed his eyes as he exhaled. It was another beautiful day in paradise.
