=^= We cannot keep watch over you for very long, we have a job to do. So
what do you intend to do about your current planet-bound situation? =^=

"My engineering staff are preparing the ship for departure but its going
to be a few hours before we can attempt it, as for our medical problems,
we have a plan in motion. Commander, if all goes well, we can rendezvous
at these coordinates in say 6 hours."

The CO accessed the navigation systems and sent a position that was
closer to the centre of the unexplored system than either ship had so
far penetrated.

(Reply from Talath)

"Remae out.", he said closing the channel when he saw some of the crew
approaching, if the infected got too close, they would shut the systems
of the shuttle down with their infection.

"Captain, the doctor might have a workable plan," Octan said as he came
near. "There is one problem, though, and it concerns Lt Commander Lono.
She is half Betazoid right?"

"Yes Ensign.", said Remae his legs now dangling out of the shuttle as he
sat on one of the nacelles.

"Well, Betazoids' heat tolerance is lower than humans, not much - in
fact, normally you wouldn't notice it, but enough so that the treatment
will not work on her - it will certainly kill her!"

Remae rubbed his chin for a moment before answering.

"We need to find a way to protect her vital functions to allow the
procedure to work, that's now your priority.", he said as he spotted the
First Officer heading their way, "Get to work.", he snapped, probably
from lack of sleep and too much stress from all that was going on these
last few days.

He jumped down and intercepted the FO as she approached.

"Do you have anything I need to know, Captain?", she asked and Remae
brought her up to speed on the Romulans and then added, "Maber and the
others are working on a plan to cure the infection and they are making
progress, currently they have a problem that the treatment isn't going
to work for everybody, as the side effects would be fatal to some
species, include Betazoids."

(Reply from Lono)

"Don't worry, we'll find a way to solve these problems. let's head back
to camp."

Together, the two of them headed down to the Medical Camp, ahead of
them, the assembled crew continued to work on their avenues of
investigation.

(Base Camp, CO, Captain Remae - 08.05)

=^= Ensign Longfellow to Captain Remae. =^=

"Go ahead Ensign, what's your progress?"

=^= I'll transmit my report on the ship's status now sir, I'd still
advise against attempting to take off with the damage we have still
unrepaired and the warp drives aren't fully functional but the hull
should remain intact and with impulse the ride up will be a lot easier
then the ride down. =^=

=^= Sir. =^=

"Thank you Ensign, I'll read your report shortly, Captain out."

They weren't going anywhere without their crew, that was the one certain
factor or at least, he thought so but just then.

=^= Spectre to Captain Remae. were picking up Romulan signals, they are
engaging someone. it sound rough, Sir. =^=

"Hail them.", he said and a few moments later, a voice came through on
the comm, it sounded fragmented.

=^= Spectre. Xenolithe ship heading your way... they got through. =^=

The channel went dead.

Remae's hairs went up on the back of his neck as the thought he'd been
dreading passed through his head as a real possibility.

~ They are coming! ~

He ran at a pace back to the camp before nearly bumping into some of the
crew assembled.

"We've got another major problem, the Xenolithe, I think they are coming
our way, here, on this planet, I don't think the Romulans stopped them
from getting through."

(Reply from any at the base)

"Captain Remae to Major Drizzt, we've got a major problem, I want you to
prepare for an invasion, the Xenolithe are coming. I need a permitter
around this camp heavily defended and one around the Spectre."

(Reply from Drizzt)

"Ensign Longfellow, this is the CO, come in.", Remae said touching his
commbadge, "Is there anyway to establish shields around the Spectre, we
could be looking at a Xenolithe force landing on the planet."

(Reply from Longfellow)

"Ensign Rak'han, take what teams you can and dig yourself in and prepare
to defend the camp and liaise with the Marines, make sure you coordinate
your efforts."

(Reply from Rak'han)

"Commander, can you supervise the efforts of security around the camp?
Make sure everyone is armed with something that works, even if its one
of the 2O's chemical based weapons I keep hearing about."

(Reply from Lono)

Remae turned back to the team that was working on the infected officers.

"Whatever you are planning to do to get this infection out of our crew,
you'd better get on with it, the Spectre is a sitting duck on the
surface."

With that Remae grabbed a shovel and began to assist the Marines and
Security in digging trenches and other fortifications around the
encampment, he needed to work off some of his frustrations, as the sun
began to rise and the day promised hot weather ahead, it wasn't long
before he was sweating through his uniform.

(Red Claw - Bridge - Cmdr Talath - 07.36)

"We cannot keep watch over you for very long, we have a job to do. So
what do you intend to do about your current planet-bound situation?"

"Talath folded his hands together, as the Bajoran said, =^=My
engineering staff are preparing the ship for departure but its going to
be a few hours before we can attempt it, as for our medical problems, we
have a plan in motion. Commander, if all goes well, we can rendezvous at
these coordinates in say 6 hours.=^=

Talath waited a few moments, then looked at the coordinates given. "Very
well," he said after a few moments. He waited a few moments, then said
"Ill stay here until my own repairs are effected, should be about an
hour. After that, you will be on your own. Red Claw out."

=^=Remae out.=^=

The connection shut down, "Standard Orbit, keep working on that signal."
he said. Talath sat back, mulling over several things. He had used his
repairs as an excuse to stay in the system, without raising the
suspicions of the Federation scum. He wanted to know what that station
was, and why it was here.

(Red Claw - Bridge - Cmdr Talath - 0754)

"Sir, three incoming Xenolithe ships!"

Talath, who had been looking at a Status report of the ships status,
while his encryption team worked on the encoded Tal Shiar signal, spun
in his chair. "What are they?"

A couple seconds passed as his weapons officer worked feverishly at the
controls. "Only two of them are the smaller classes we have been
fighting, one technological and one biological. The third is a much
larger vessel Sir, biological." He paused for another second, then said
"They are moving on an attack vector."

"Battle Alert.. What's the lead craft?"

"One of the smaller, previously encountered biological craft."

Talath swung the armrests down on his chair, to keep him in place, as he
thought furiously. "Time to intercept?"

"One minute, Sir."

That decided it, "Full impulse, put us on an attack vector for the lead
ship, target all weapons." He wanted to cut down the odds, three ships
was a hell of a fight, especially considering he didn't know the
capability of the largest ship. "All auxiliary power to forward
shields!"

The Red Claw jumped to full impulse, its engines howled and the Romulans
were pushed back in their seats as the inertial dampeners struggled to
keep up with the overpowered ship.

"Fire at will!" he bellowed, a moment later.

The Romulan ship opened up, its disruptors tuned to frequencies that
they had discovered were the most damaging to the Xenolithe ships. The
opening volley took the lead craft head on, and blasted it into several
pieces before it even had a chance to react.
