(jg) Jericho Haynes and COPS Lt. Maraht. 1025) Jack inhaled another deep breath in ecstasy at being alive, the subspace pressure wave had scared the bejeebers out of him and he wasn't afraid to admit it. In the darkness though he heard a scraping sound that was moving his way, he imagined how the workers on Janus VI must have felt in hearing such a noise coming upon them in the darkened mining tunnels, no wonder they had been paralyzed with fear. Fortunately though he knew who and what was making the noise and that knowledge was strangely comforting. The invisible horta moved within inches of him and stopped unerringly. "Lieutenant Haynes are you well?" The voice of Maraht echoed strangely in the darkened lab just as the sound of his movements had been. "Yes Maraht I'm fine, just more than a bit shocked at what happened," His mind leapt to a new track instantly. "How did you know where I was and can you see in the dark? You obviously knew right where I was to within a few inches." The horta made a jocular sound from his vox and Jack could see in his minds eye as clearly as though he were looking at it with his eyes the waving main phalange. "We horta are born with the ability to navigate the tunnels beneath the surface of our home using senses which you stalks do not have. I 'see' in the dark using electromagnetic frequencies and 'navigate' in the darkness using something similar to the ultrasonic frequencies creatures such as the bats, whales and other mammals upon your world of Earth use though it is also tied in with my sensing of those frequencies. Together they also allow us horta to find the delectable metals we crave for sustenance." "I see." Jack mused as he maneuvered himself to his feet like a blind man. "Makes a great deal of sense, your race are naturally born miners after all." "While I could guide you out Lt. Haynes it would be helpful for you if we had some light, would it be possible to restore some measure of power to this lab?" "I'm afraid not." Jack mused as he looked around the nothingness. "I used the main override to cut the internal power relays, in order to restore power someone will have to access the override in the bulkhead outside the lab." "In that case I will be happy to guide you out," The horta said merrily. "However I would suggest you not ride on my carapace for several reasons, damage to my vox might ensue of course and I'd hate for you to fall off so that I might accidently run over you." "Too late," Jack grinned. "I already got run over by a truck it feels like." He rubbed his sternum where he had banged it on the console during his vault over top of it. He didn't see the horta waving his main phalange again in silent laughter at the word image. "Speaking of which did Lo'ren get out before I hit the power?" Jack tensed at the thought of her being hurt during the incident. "Ensign T'Vof did not hesitate to leave at your order." The horta stated as Jack found his carapace with his hand and steadied himself against the rocky surface. "I am certain she carried out your orders to call engineering as well, she really is a very effective officer I've noticed." "Yes she is." He said. "You can start moving when you're ready. By the way why didn't you leave when I told you to?" "Because I wanted to monitor the containment field till the last instant and in case something catastrophic happened I could take efforts to protect you, my body is much harder to damage than yours after all." the horta explained concisely. Jack shrugged at that, the horta was right after all, it would take a lot to really damage him through his rocky carapace. "I will start slowly and try to maintain a comfortable pace for you, call out if I go too quickly." Maraht said as he began undulating across the floor on his fine phalangi ahead of the stalk. The feeling of Maraht's movements transmitted through Jack's hand were eerie vibrations he noted with chagrin, sort of like a sonic vibrator that relaxed sore muscles, too bad he couldn't lean against the horta and be pulled along, it would probably be soothing to his banged up breastbone cartilage. It took a couple of minutes to navigate the maze of the lab at the pace he set as Jack had to lean forward with his hand out and shuffle along behind the officer while reaching out to the side to make sure he didn't bump painfully into anything, momentarily though he stopped. "We are at the main entrance Lieutenant Haynes." "You can call me Jack please." he said. "Thanks for the tow." "Tow? What is a tow?" Jack grinned in the darkness. "A humorous reference to a humorous comment I made earlier about the run-in with the truck" "I see." The horta said and waved his main phalange again, in his minds eye seeing the truck being hauled off by another vehicle on a hook. Jack leaned against the door and tried to catch his fingers in the center to pull the door open with no luck. "I can get us out quickly." The horta noted as he tried to pry it open. "I'm afraid that not much would be left of the door though ...it would be very tasty." He could smell the glorious metal all around him of course. It was then that Jack remembered someone calling him earlier but he hadn't paid it much mind while he was trying to still his racing heart. As a matter of fact it had sounded like Lo'ren which is why he had wanted to make sure she was out. Which reminded him of his com. "Is your com working Maraht?" "I don't believe so, I have already tried calling out but received no response. As I was closer to the energy discharges in the containment unit I think it might have burned out the communicator which is much more sensitive than the main voice mode of my vox." "I think then I can get us out without you eating my door." Jack chuckled. "Thanks for volunteering though." "My pleasure." The horta replied, waving his main phalange again in laughter which Jack of course couldn't see. "Ensign T'vof this is Lt. Haynes, do you read me?" (Reply: Lo'ren) Jack let out an explosive breath. "Excellent! Maraht and I are inside the door but with main power cut off I can't open it. The override is in the bulkhead to the left of the door." (Reply: Lo'ren) "No, we're all right except for a bruise or two to myself and a burned out com unit in Maraht's vox. Engineering will have the equipment to get through to the override, just tell them not to take too long, as dark as it is in here I'm liable to doze off." He smiled at his own joke as he finished. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Outside the High Physics Lab - ACEO Ensign (jg) Eoin Mac Liam - 1026) Eoin exited the turbolift and ran down to the door to the physics lab, his damage control team in tow. He saw Dr. Trommashere attending to Lo'ren. He made sure not to let it show, but he was worried for his friend. But right now, he had a job to do. After attending to Lo'ren, Dr. Tommashere moved to the door, feeling whether or not it was hot. She started pounding on the door. Eoin took that as a sign that the door was, after all, cool. "Dr. Trommashere!" he called out. "What's the situation?" (reply Trommashere) "Let's get that door open. T'Sar, what are the readings on the other side of the door? Is it safe to go in?" (reply T'Sar) "Alright. Ladies and gentlemen, it's time to earn our paychecks." With that, Eoin rolled up his sleeves, opened his damage control kit, and began working on the door. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (USS Hades, Deck Six, Outside the High Physics Lab, ACSO Ensign (JG) Kenneth McKenzie 10:27 hours) "That's everyone" said one of the nurses to Kenny, closeing his tricorder. "The worse wound of the people here was that man you treated with that gash on his arm. He'll be up and about in no time. No fataliles." "Thank God." exclaimed Kenny, who also closed his tricorder. "Sorry Sir, but you seemed supried." asked the man. "I just had a feeling that it would be worse. I'm glad I was wrong." "Aye. So am I." The nurse turned back to treating the man with the wounded arm. Kenny walked over to Trommashere to give her the good news. "Eveyones alright." he said he her. "Nothing serious. Just a few bumps and scractes. However, we don't know the condition of peopel in the Lab. Jack and Maracth might be alright, but what if they are not the only ones in there?" (reply Dr. Trommashere) Kenny heard footsteps running from down the corridor and he turned to see Ensign MacLiam and a team of yellow-coloured people come around the corner. he spoke to his group. "Let's get that door open. T'Sar, what are the readings on the other side of the door? Is it safe to go in?" Kenny looked at the person he was speaking to, the Vulcan looked at his tricorder-Wait... he was not a Vulcan. Kenny was taken aback when he relised that his T'Sar was a Romulan. Then it stuck him. Kenny remembered hearing that a Romulan was joing the crew. He must have forgot. Romulans in the Federation, he though. Times are changing... "Alright. Ladies and gentlemen, it's time to earn our paychecks." said Eion. As Dr. Trommashere moved back from the door and stood beside Kenny as Eion and his team worked, he spoke. "I guess we wait untill they are finished. What shouild we do untill then?" ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Outside High Energy Biophysics Lab - ATAC Ensign (jg) Lo'ren T'Vof - 1028) The voice that came through her comm badge was music to her ears and much welcomed relief. =/\=Ensign T'vof this is Lt. Haynes, do you read me?=/\= ~Prophets be Praised!~ She slapped her badge, "Yes, I read you Jack. I'm right outside." Jack sounded very relieved. =/\=Excellent! Maraht and I are inside the door but with main power cut off I can't open it. The override is in the bulkhead to the left of the door.=/\= "Okay, I've called down to Engineering, they should be here shortly with a damage control team. I've also got Doctor Trommashere here, breathing down my neck," Lo'ren slipped into a bit of a teasing mode with the Doc, almost a kneejerk reaction to the stress of the previous moments, but it couldn't fully hide her concern for the two officers, "Are you and Maraht ok? Are you hurt in any way?" =/\=No, we're all right except for a bruise or two to myself and a burned out com unit in Maraht's vox. Engineering will have the equipment to get through to the override, just tell them not to take too long, as dark as it is in here I'm liable to doze off.=/\= (reply any present, room for more?) Lo'ren was relieved to hear that both Jack and Maraht were relatively unharmed. What she'd seen and assumed was about to happen could have been much more dire. She was, strangely, more concerned for Jack than she ought to be - she'd worked with both officers before. ~Must examine this in my personal time...~ "Jack, can you tell me what happened in there? What I was able to catch before I left was some show." Lo'ren tried to keep things a bit more casual, but she was listening for anything that was unusual in the way he spoke. (reply Haynes, Maraht iyw) As she listened, Lo'ren sat down against the wall, ticked off at herself for not forseeing this possibility. ~Advanced Tactical Training... and what does it do for you, Mutt? Nothing, HA!~ She was happy to see that the other departments were on the ball when it came to action. ~Father would say that, logically, one must always do one's best. Lo'ren-kam, ar'kadan-buhfik eh venlinahr shetau tren'es-buhfik. - Lo'ren, perfect discipline and training becomes mastery.~ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades, Deck Six, Corridor, outside Biophysics Lab, ACSO Ensign (JG) Kenneth McKenzie 10:29 hours.) Kenny walked over to Lo'ren who was at the door to the Biophysics lab, attempting to speak to Jack and Maraht. He noted that they way she spoke was almost like a mother speaking to a child who is hurt. Maybe that was just his imagination? Kenny turned to her. "Ensign. I think you'll understand when I say that I'm not the kind of person who can just sit about and wait when there are people in need. Is there anything I can do to help get the door open? Anything at all? I may not be an engineer, but I know a thing or too. You know, the basics at the Academy." ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Deck Six, Outside Biophysics Lab - ATAC Ensign Lo'ren T'Vof - 10:30) "Ensign. I think you'll understand when I say that I'm not the kind of person who can just sit about and wait when there are people in need. Is there anything I can do to help get the door open? Anything at all? I may not be an engineer, but I know a thing or too. You know, the basics at the Academy." Despite his display of bravado and his size, Kenneth McKenzie seemed a rather timorous type to Lo'ren. She turned away from the panel she was using to communicate with Jack and responded to his query, feeling - for once - every single one of her 47 years along with the shock and its subsequent emotions. "Mr. McKenzie, right?" She rubbed at her nose ridges, which were itching like crazy. (reply Kenny iyw) "You did a lot helping the medical teams but if you still want to do something I'm sure the Engineers could use a hand with the bulkhead," she pointed at the correct one. "Otherwise, once Dr. Trommashere gets her hands on Lt. Haynes and Lt. Maraht, we'll be out of the picture - for a while any how. Then you will be the ranking Science officer in the vicinity." (reply Kenny) "We'll need you to contain the space debris we were working with - I'm pretty sure the field blew and that's why we got the explosion. You'll then have your hands full." --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades, Deck Six, Corridor outside High Energy Biophysics Lab, ACSO Ensign (JG) Kenneth McKenzie, 1031) Kenny ran alongside Dr. Trommashere down the corridor with a team of medics. His heart beat faster and he was starting to sweat. He was praying to anything he could think of that this would not be as bad as the time he first came on the Hades, when he saw people die in front of him. Not the best start to his career, but he was ready for it and it helped. He prayed to whatever entities existed in the universe that Jack was still alive, then added everyone else to that list he could think of as a guilty afterthought. "Don't worry about me." he said to Trommashere. "My mother is a doctor back on Earth and she trained me. I also took more than the mandatory medical training in my Second Year at the Academy." (reply Dr. Trommashere.) At last, in what seemed like agonising minutes to Kenny, they arrived at the doors to the Biophysics Lab. Several people where laying about or standing against the walls, coughing or holding onto wounds. So far, no body seemed to be too injured. "Ensign...are you okay? Were you hurt? What happened?" said Trommashere, pulling out a mdeical tricorder. "Unexpected results in the Lab and now I can't reach either Lieutenant Haynes or Lt. Maraht." Lo'ren batted the tricorder away from her. "I'm fine, doc. I ran when Jack told me to run." "What's the stats of the people inside?" "I have no idea what's going on in there now." Lo'ren replyed, hitting an panel. Kenny walked over to one of the injured crewpersons, a male white Human. He has his right arm covering his left, blood seeped from a wound in it. Kenny bent down to him and scanned him with his tricorder. "You have a gash on your arm, but it's not deep." he said "You'll be OK." he nodded to a nurse who walked over to the man and began to treat him. Kenny looked around. There was no one else to look at. The rest of the team has already scanned and began to heal the injured. It looked like no-one was seriously hurt. Kenny sighed with relief and walked over to Lo'ren. "Lt. We need to get in there, just in case. How can we over-ride the lockdown?" ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (USS Hades - Deck 6 Corridor outside Biophysics Lab - ATAC Ensign (jg) Lo'ren T'Vof - 1032) Ensign Kenneth McKenzie was talking to her, "Ensign, We need to get in there, just in case. How can we over-ride the lockdown?" Lo'ren turned to Kenny McKenzie, "I've already called down to Engineering. There should be someone coming very shortly." Over Kenny's shoulder Lo'ren saw a troop of Engineers, led by Eoin and a new officer Lo'ren hadn't met yet. Eoin took a quick assessment of the area and with this T'Sar fellow scanning the lab started on the door. Lo'ren was slightly bemused that Eoin didn't go for the bulkhead that Jack mentioned so she spoke up. "Hey, carrot-top," Lo'ren simply couldn't help the joking about - it was the one thread she had short of shaking with emotion, "Try the bulkhead, I managed to get some airtime with Jack and he said the door can be overridden from there." (reply Eoin) She turned back to the Doctor, "Doc, I'm perfectly willing to go for a once over in Sickbay, but can it wait until we get Jack and Maraht out? I feel responsible for the situation as it was my experiment we were running." (reply Angeni) Lo'ren nodded and turned back to the wall panel. "Jack? Can you hear me?" (reply Jack) "We have medical and engineering here now, we'll have you and Maraht out soon." ~I hope.~ Lo'ren felt helpless, and stupid, and frustrated - and... ~You're afraid Mutt.~ afraid. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades, Deck Six, Outside Biophysics Lab, ATT Lt. Commander Zzt, 10:33) Zzt came running down the corridor, the deck plating vibrating from the strain of his massive bulk, his massive tool-kit held firmly in one paw. He went careening around a corner and slammed into the wall, leaving a large dent in his wake. He came up on the small group of people milling out side of the lab and looking around while sniffing the air franticly. "What go on!?" He asked loudly, his hulking form dwarfing that of everyone else. "Zzt want help! Oh, Hi T' Seer." Zzt wiggled his claws at T'Sar as he noticed the Romulan standing in the group of engineers. He then looked around again for someone to tell him what was going on. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades, Deck Six, Outside Biophysics Lab, ACSO Ensign (JG) Kenneth McKenzie, 10:34 hours.) "You did a lot helping the medical teams but if you still want to do something I'm sure the Engineers could use a hand with the bulkhead," said Lo'ren, pointing to one. "Otherwise, once Dr. Trommashere gets her hands on Lt. Haynes and Lt. Maraht, we'll be out of the picture, for a while any how. Then you will be the ranking Science officer in the vicinity." "Right, Ensign." he replied. "We'll need you to contain the space debris we were working with, I'm pretty sure the field blew and that's why we got the explosion. You'll then have your hands full." "Contain? Forgive me if this sounds weird, but why do I get the feeling that it's something radioactive? What does the debris look like and are we going to need protective clothing if we can't erect a force felid?" ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Deck Six, Outside Biophysics Lab - ATAC Ensign (jg) Lo'ren T'Vof - 10:34.5) "Contain? Forgive me if this sounds weird, but why do I get the feeling that it's something radioactive? What does the debris look like and are we going to need protective clothing if we can't erect a force felid?" Lo'ren shook her head, "No, Mr McKenzie. There is no need for protective clothing. The debris is safe enough for handling but it can affect our systems if left to touc whatever it likes. It's all battle ripped bulkheads that we found here in the vicinity and most of it is affected by some sort of temporal... uh... string." During the last moments of Lo'ren explaining the debris humungous bulk came careening around the corner, causing Lo'ren to vibrating from her core to the tips of her fingers. The bear-creature had on a rather modified uniform and carried an emergency kit, so Lo'ren assumed he was a new crew member. "What go on!? Zzt want help! Oh, Hi T' Seer." Being shorter than most Lo'ren had to tilt her head furthest in order to see the new arrival's face. She could just make out the pips on his collar through his fur. "Lt. Commander Zzt?" The name was an odd one to pronounce but Lo'ren managed it. (reply Zzt iyw) "I'm Engign Lo'ren T'Vof, we had an explosion in the lab and there's two officers stuck behind the door." Lo'ren was getting slightly dizzy leaning back to look at the great animal. (reply Zzt) "Lieutenants Jericho Haynes, our CSO and Maraht, our COPS are in there. I think they aare fairly safe, but we need to get in and contain the debris. There's a temporal string affecting it and it's possible that the string will affect our systems if left too long." Lo'ren was now wavering on her feet and reached a hand out to the wall to steady herself. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades, Deck Six, Outside Biophysics Lab, ACSO Ensign (JG) Kenneth McKenzie 10:35 hours) Lo'ren shook her head, "No, Mr McKenzie. There is no need for protective clothing. The debris is safe enough for handling but it can affect our systems if left to touc whatever it likes. It's all battle ripped bulkheads that we found here in the vicinity and most of it is affected by some sort of temporal... uh... string." Lo'ren trailed off as Kenny heard a noise which sounded like a hammer banging on the floor. He could feel the vibrations at his feet. Suddenly, to Kenny shock, a large brown bear-like creature came running into veiw. It if had not been for the Star Fleet uniform the creature was wearing, Kenny would have grabbed his phaser. "What go on!? Zzt want help! Oh, Hi T' Seer." the creature bellowed. Kenny took a step back, closer to Lo'ren. He was unsure how to take this sence infrount of him. But she seemed comfable and turned to face the bear. "Lt. Commander Zzt?" she said. "I'm Engign Lo'ren T'Vof, we had an explosion in the lab and there's two fficers stuck behind the door. Lieutenants Jericho Haynes, our CSO and Maraht, our COPS are in there. I think they aare fairly safe, but we need to get in and contain the debris. There's a temporal string affecting it and it's possible that the string will affect our systems if left too long." "We are just about to try and get the door open, Sir." Kenny replyed. "We could use the help of another person." (reply Lt. Com Zzt) Kenny walked over to the door of the Lab and turn to both Zzt and Lo'ren. "Now, from what I know of these bulkheads, they are pritty much standard; Tiritinium enforced emergency bulkheads, which means they will be hard to get open without the right requiment. As far as my limited knowlege on this kind of thing goes, we could just distroy the gel packs, which I belive would over-ride the lock out, but that seems kind of blunt. Another way may be to force the door to open, maybe my simulating to the Comuter that it needs to open the doors. Hmm... Any thought so this, people? You know these thinsg better than I." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades, Deck Six, Outside Biophysics Lab, ATT Lt. Commander Zzt, 10:36) "Lieutenants Jericho Haynes, our CSO and Maraht, our COPS are in there. I think they are fairly safe, but we need to get in and contain the debris. There's a temporal string affecting it and it's possible that the string will affect our systems if left too long," Ensign T'Vof explained. Zzt blinked and looked at the doors to the science lab. "We are just about to try and get the door open, Sir." Someone else said. "We could use the help of another person." The man then walked over to the door and continued talking, but Zzt just stared at the door. His friend was stuck on the other side. Sure Maraht was mad at him still for the incident on the Boudicca, but as far as Zzt was concerned Maraht was still a friend. He turned toward the door and growled menacingly. "Step side," He said, casually brushing the Ensign in science blue away from in front of the door with one massive paw. Zzt then rapped the door with his claws. "My'Hat! My'Hat! Stand Back!" Zzt yelled through the doors. He then turned his head to the others standing in the corridor. "Give Zzt room." Zzt turned back toward the door, narrowed his eyes, and waited a few seconds for everyone to take a few steps back. Taking a deep breath he lifted his arms and began to force his claws into the crack in the middle of the doors baring his fangs and growling with determination. It only took him a few moments to get his claws wedged in enough to allow him to get a firm grip on both doors, then with a mighty heave he forced the doors open. The sound of twisting metal filled the corridor briefly as Zzt ripped the doors back and out at the same time. With the doors now open, Zzt took a step back as he heard the familiar rumble of Maraht moving toward him. Zzt smiled as he saw Maraht unharmed leading the way with a human male following closely behind who looked a little bumped and bruised. Zzt was about the greet Maraht and the CSO when suddenly there was a loud whooshing noise and Zzt felt something spraying him from ear tip to paws. Having closed his eyes instinctively when the whooshing started, Zzt opened his eyes to see that the corridor and everyone in it was now covered in fire suppression foam. ~Oops! This is going to be a real hassle to get out of my fur.~ He thought as he shook his head sending little blobs of foam flying in every direction. "How that happen?" Zzt asked innocently. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades, Deck Six, Outside Biophysics Lab, ACSO Ensign (JG) Kenneth McKenzie 10:37 hours) "So, I believe that the best course of action should be-whoa!" Kenny exclaimed as the bear pushed him away, albeit, gently. Kenny stood looking confused as Zzt walked over to the door. "Step side." he said, knocking on the door. "My'Hat! My'Hat! Stand Back!" He then turned to the room, a light in his eyes "Give Zzt room." he said. Without any objection or question about what he was going to to, everyone, including Kenny, stood aside. The Commander then roared and placed his large claws in-between the lines of the door. With incredible strength he was able to force them open. Kenny was so shocked by this display of brute force that he also forgot; "No, wait, Commander! If you force it open like that, you'll-" It was too late, the doors were already open and the large bear walked in. Suddenly, as Kenny feared, the fire suppression systems kicked in and sprayed foam all over the corridor and lab, soaking everyone. "-set off the Fire Suppression." Kenny finished in a along mono-tone. The Commander turn back to the room, pure confusion in his eyes. "How that happen?" he said innocently. Kenny flicked his hands to get the creamy stuff of him, but there was so much he just gave up. In that corridor, Zzt is not the only member who can growl, Kenny thought. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades, Deck Six, Outside Biophysics Lab, ACEO Ensign (jg) T'sar, 10:38) T'sar stood at a nearby control panel, his frustration mounting as the door refused to open. Another officer suggested forcing it, but T'sar was convinced he could remove any obstacle with a thourough understanding of the problem; hence his painstaking analysis of the door's control panel. So absorbed was he in his work, that T'sar did not notice Zzt's efforts to open the door until the bear-like leutenant banged upon the door, "My'hat, My'hat!" The creature bellowed, "Stand back!" The accent was so thick, T'sar wondered why Zzt did not simply use a translator. He did step back, as ordered, but to no avail, it seemed. When the doors ripped open under Zzt's remarkable force, T'sar blinked in surprise. How strong was this creature? He began to comment, but was silenced by the spray of fire-suppressant. Right in his mouth. "Yich!" he spat, trying to get the aweful taste out. As he removed the goo from his face, he realized his uniform was similarly covered. He turned to glare at Zzt, but seeing the bear look down at himself, puzzled as to the sticky substance no covering him, T'sar could only chuckle. "Sir, I might suggest a terran compound, known as 'peanut butter,' I believe," T'sar said quietly, leaning to Zzt, "It seems to help remove gummy substances, like this fire-suppressant." (Reply Zzt, any who may have heard) ~What damage has he done?~ T'sar had to wonder, and as Maraht and the other officer, whom T'sar had not met, picked their way through the rubble to the door, T'sar stepped up, producing a tricorder and scanning the door panel for damage. T'sar reached out to tap a command on the flickering panel. Bad idea. The control pad sparked, sputtered, and with a small pop, T'sar flinched as it began smoking as it flickered out. T'sar opened his eyes and turned to face the other crewmembers, his face apologetic. "I tried," he said sheepishly. ~At least the fire suppressant protected me from the panel,~ he thought, examining his gooey, now slightly-scorched uniform, ~Well, sort of.~ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Deck Six, Outside Biophysics Lab - ATAC Ensign Lo'ren T'Vof - 10:39) Lo'ren was covered in goo and it wasn't helping. She looked around, ~At least I'm not the only one mired in this slop.~ She couldn't help but giggle at the innocent surprise on the faces of most everyone. She turned to Kenny, "Well, Mr. McKenzie, it seems you have your protective clothing after all!" (reply Kenny iyw) She was hit by a fresh piece of foam as Zzt turned his head this way and that to take into the entirety of the scene. Lo'ren wiped her face clean and breathed a sigh of relief as Maraht and Jack walked out of the darkened Lab. The great rock looked none the worse for wear and Jack seemed to be decently ok. "How that happen?" Zzt asked innocently. "Sir, I might suggest a terran compound, known as 'peanut butter,' I believe," T'sar said quietly, leaning to Zzt, "It seems to help remove gummy substances, like this fire-suppressant." Lo'ren laughed - nearly snorting at the thought, "I think you'd need a heck of a lot of peanut butter to get that out." The control pad sparked as T'Sar attempted to use it, sputtering and popping. T'sar flinched as it began smoking and then flickered out. T'sar opened his eyes and turned to face the other crewmembers, his face apologetic. "I tried," he said sheepishly. Lo'ren shook her head, her shoulders shaking with surpressed giggles, ~How did we manage this?~ She looked back again at Jack and Maraht - her concern for her compatriots over-riding the absurdity of the situation. "Lieutenants, I'm glad you two are safe, if a little gooey." She could barely keep a straight face. (reply Jack, Maraht) "I think the good Doctor would like us to head to Sickbay for a onceover," She turned a little to include Dr. Trommashere, "I am correct Doctor?" (reply Angeni) Lo'ren straightened her tunic and brushed off some of the slop, "Well, then - Mr. Zzt, I think you can take over from here?" She spoke with a distinct air of humour seeing as how Zzt had already done so well in "taking over". (reply Zzt) She looked around the incredible bulk known as Zzt and caught Eoin's attention. Grinning through and through she tossed off a comment to Eoin, "It's about time you had a bath anyhow, Stretch, I'd thank Zzt if I were you." She turned and caught up to the rest of the medical team and their other two charges. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Deck Six, Outside Biophysics Lab - CSO, Jericho Haynes - 10:40) Jack had been in near constant contact with Lo'ren since he and Maraht had made it to the doors to the lab, although the horta had offered to get them out upon arriving Jack had the brilliant idea of waiting until the engineering teams arrived to use the override. =^= Jack? Can you hear me? =^= "Yes I'm here Lo'ren but I can't vouch for my patience, what's taking engineering so long?" =^= "We have medical and engineering here now, we'll have you and Maraht out soon.=^= He sighed in resignation. "Understood, thanks for keeping me up to date." And then they had waited for at least ten minutes, during that time he and Marah had had time to catch up on light conversation as well as plan what repairs and procedures would have to be implemented in order to deal with the material in the containment unit followed by a probable three days of work on that unit before it would be anywhere near ready for testing. Jack wasn't certain what was taking so long but the horta's offer was becoming more and more tempting however he forced himself to be patient. Until he heard a rapping upon the doors and looked over at them. The sound wasn't made by fists beating upon the door, it was too solid. Neither did it sound like metal such as a hammer or wrench say as it was too hollow. "What the ..?" He asked no one in particular as he stood to his feet. That's when the doors started to part slowly until they were about a half an inch apart, light began to seep into the lab. Jack also noticed now that he had some light a couple of interesting things such as what looked like claws being forced between them and the fact that the doors were beginning to protest loudly. The groan of overstressed metal rose in volume then with a sudden accordian-like action they were ripped open by unimagineable strength. In the doorway (Or what was left of it) stood an ursinoid (Bear like) being fully ten feet tall and in the neighborhood Jack judged of a ton give or take a few hundred pounds. The creature wore of all things a starfleet uniform which appeared sorely overmatched by the beings' immense size. Jack hung back but the horta seemed not in the least fazed, he rumbled out into the corridor so Jack shrugged and walked up to the Gerratlian who was following the horta's progress with great interest, he seemed concerned with Maraht's well being. As the human made it to the corridor he noticed a great many people were milling about outside, Angeni, his ACSO Ken, Lo'ren, Eoin and what looked like a vulcan at a wall panel by the doors among others, that was all he saw though before the world went white along with a great whooshing noise. His eyes had closed in reflex and to open them he found he had to use his hands to wipe creamy, sticky foam from around them. The sight that greeted his eyes though was a comedy of errors. He heard Ken finish a sentance already started in a resigned monotone. "-set off the Fire Suppression." he thought he heard a growling noise of frustration come from the man. The Gerratlian looked like the Stay-Puff Marshmallow man (Anyone remember Ghost Busters?) he blinked his eyes innocently before asking. "How that happen?" His accented speech around a mouthful of sharp teeth was nearly incomprehensible. The vulcan officer (he assumed) spoke up. "Sir, I might suggest a terran compound, known as 'peanut butter,' I believe. It seems to help remove gummy substances, like this fire-suppressant." Lo'ren gave a laughing retort to the effect he would need a large amount of the stuff. The 'vulcan' then managed to short out the wall panel and gave a sheepish grin. "I tried." He looked a bit like an ice elf in his gooey getup. ~Okay~ Jack thought. ~Not a vulcan then, who is that guy?~ Ensign T'Vof then turned her attention to he and Maraht. "Lieutenants, I'm glad you two are safe, if a little gooey." She could barely keep a straight face. "I'm doing much better than my lab." Jack looked accusingly from the Gerratlian to the Romulan. "Have you folks ever heard of the Keystone cops? By the way who the heck are you two? I know I'd remember if I'd seen you on the ship before." Lo'ren stepped in quickly though before he could get wound up. "I think the good Doctor would like us to head to Sickbay for a onceover," She turned a little to look at Dr. Trommashere, "I am correct Doctor?" (Reply: Angeni) Jack used the lull to get up a head of steam up again. "I want your names gentlemen and an explanation of your reasons for destroying my door and interface." (Reply: Zzt and T'sar) He growled in response. "Had anyone listened to my instructions Ensign T'Vof passed along we could have avoided this mess. Congratulations on a thorough demolition job." ~ And what a mess it is!~ He absently wiped at his uniform as he wound down. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Ten Forward -CMO Angeni O. Windsong-Trommashere, 1900) "The only possibility I can think of is that they were damaged as part of a close range to the explosion which would have scored the side closest to the blast, and if they managed to be lasted clear of the vessel without any further impacts maybe... But that seems unlikely, unless they were somehow..." Harry froze in mid-sentence. His eyes glazed over as his head suddenly started working out equations in his head. "Right...the Three Impact Theory, except in this case, the whole theory turns itself inside out. Initial impact usually lead to body being stopped by a wall, bulkhead, ground, whatever, and in turn, the organs collide with the inside of the body. With this, you had the initial blast injury, and the internal injuries, but no body hitting something injury...that I could see at least." He nodded as he focused his eyes back on Angeni. "I think I have an answer to your question. We'd need to do some study but..." "Hypothesize away, my dear. I love watching your mind work..." She winked at him. "If those particular Tch'kairn were say engineers working on their version of a drive system. One that utilized Fractal space say, as an example, and that drive lost containment, similar to the way a warp core does. Then it makes perfectly good sense." The look on her face had to have been one of complete and utter confusion. She smiled weakly, trying to catch up. Some days, with him, she felt dumber than a box of rocks. "Let me explain." As he explained, Angeni suprised herself in the way she kept up, but at the same time, she was mentally kicking herself for bringing up work...again. It was as if she had nothing else to talk about except for work. She reminded herself that she herself was also new to the whole dating game, having not done much dating herself before this. It wasn't the fact that she didn't find him to be attractive, or anything along those lines, it was just that she felt more comfortable talking about minor subjects instead of opening herself up to more revalations, not unlike the one about her parents. It kept her mind focused on the matter at hand. Sure, in time she'd tell him everything, but it seemed like over dinner wasn't the best time at all to do such a thing. As he finished, she smiled softly. "Long story short, the initial explosion hit them, but for lack of a better phrase, they phased out and were able to go through matter, not slam into it like a 300 ton freight train?" (Reply Harry) Angeni's tone became a bit more serious, and she looked over at Harry, a strange look on her face. "I'm quite glad you weren't hurt this morning in the explosion. Jack and Maraht got out of that by the skin on their teeth...or phlange. Fortunately, no one had any serious injuries, but I'm sure the lab doesn't exactly look like it's brand new..." She took another bite of her Spaghetti, lost in thought. (Reply Harry) "Have you worked on any new paintings recently?" ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (USS Hades - Ten Forward -SciO Ensign Harry Doorman, 1905) she smiled softly. "Long story short, the initial explosion hit them, but for lack of a better phrase, they phased out and were able to go through matter, not slam into it like a 300 ton freight train?" Harry nodded. "Yep, that's pretty much the way I see it." he replied. Angeni's tone became a bit more serious, and she looked over at Harry, a strange look on her face. "I'm quite glad you weren't hurt this morning in the explosion. Jack and Maraht got out of that by the skin on their teeth...or phalange. Fortunately, no one had any serious injuries, but I'm sure the lab doesn't exactly look like it's brand new..." She took another bite of her Spaghetti, lost in thought. "Actually the Labs doing a lot better than it looks. And I was in the Stellar sciences lab when the incident happened. If it had been an explosion large enough to harm me there, we'd all be in whatever heaven we believe in." Harry replied with a shrug. "I'm just glad that no one was hurt. That's just the nature of things in Starfleet, I suppose. If it's not an explosion in a physics lab it's being swallowed alive by some sort of tar monster or poisoned by a seemingly harmless flower that shoots poisoned darts." "Have you worked on any new paintings recently?" she asked changing the subject. Harry looked at her for a moment before answering. "Not really, I've been way too busy. I've been working pretty solid from start of 1st shift through most of second. By the time I get off duty, I've just wanted to get some sleep or come by and spend some time with you." "What about you? He asked her. "Have you managed to get any of those test parameters finished so that I can start working on your tests for those eggs?" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- end compile
