Calvin's alarm sounded at exactly 0630 as it does every morning. It took a
few moments for him to actually get out of the bed. He rolled over and placed
his feet on to the ground and stood up. From his bed he went straight into
the bathroom.

"Computer, start sonic shower." Calvin could hear the shower start, and
he waited for the computer to adjust the water temperature to the perfect
degree's that Calvin had it pre-set to.

After he took a nice and long shower he stepped out, and made his way to
his closet. He picked out a standard command uniform and put it on. The
call from Captain Straton about the meeting came through when Calvin was
back in the bathroom standing in front of the mirror. He checked his hair
twice, and sprayed a nice cologne onto his clothes.

Calvin passed through the bedroom one last time, and there he saw
Elizabeth. She didn't need to attend the meeting, but Calvin knew she
still needed to get up for her shift. He walked over to the side of the bed she
was laying on, bent over and shook her a little. "Its time to get up," he said as
he kissed her on the forehead.

(USS Paladin, Ready Room, CO Captain Eva Straton, 0700)

"Understood Admiral. We will set out as soon as possible. Within
the hour," Eva said, looking at the image of Rear Admiral Lee on her
terminal screen. The Admiral signed off and the terminal screen
reverted
to image of the Great Seal of the Federation. Eva took a deep breath
before punch a button on her desk top and opening a comm channel to the
Bridge.

"CONN, set a new course," She said, "bearing 235 mark 56 and engage
at warp 6. Transfer that heading and speed to Commander Rulestaad in
StratOps and have her pass it along to the rest of the Battle Group."

(Reply CONN)

She then opened a new comm-channel.

"Captain Straton to all Senior Officers. There will be a mandatory
meeting in the Observation Lounge in 1 hour. I will expect full
departmental status reports at that time. Straton out."

She closed the channel and leaned back in her chair, trying to
fully digest what Admiral Lee had told her.

(USS Paladin, Bridge - COPS Ensign (jg) Michael Ian O'Connor - 0700)

Michael was sitting at the Ops console on the bridge when his com badge
chirped.

=/\=Captain Straton to all Senior Officers. There will be a mandatory
meeting in the Observation Lounge in 1 hour. I will expect full
departmental status reports at that time. Straton out.=/\=

Michael quickly acknowledged the order and got down to work. He sent
a set up request to his facilities people to have the Conference room
set for the meeting, making sure that coffee and tea and juice was
available for those who wanted the morning pick-me-up. Once he was
done with that he started gathering reports together so he could give
a decent status report of the department. Supply reports, manifests,
power usage stats, staffing reports, training schedules, all were
included in the list of stuff he needed to give a decent department
report.

(USS Paladin, Observation lounge - COPS Ensign (jg) Michael Ian
O'Connor - 0755)

Michael walked into the lounge and found a seat, placing the PADD down
in front of him. Looking around he saw that the room had been set up
like he had asked, and was ready for the meeting.

(USS Paladin - Bridge - CONN Lt Max - 0700)

Max was at the CONN console following up on usual reports, and standing by
for any orders or surprises that may came about. For Max the latter would
have been better for it would be exciting. Max was thinking what the next step
for the task force would be when an order came from Captain Straton herself.

"CONN, set a new course, bearing 235, mark 56 and engage at warp 6.
Transfer that heading and speed to Commander Rulestaad in StratOps and
have her pass it along to the rest of the Battle Group."

"Aye sir." Max said. He inputed the course into the panel in front of him. He
then pushed the engage button, and the ship shot forward.

(USS Paladin, Counsellor's Office, COUNS Lt(jg) Ayesha Kotal - 0701)

Aya sipped the hot coffee and looked at the two piles of PADDs on her desk. One pile represented the ones she had
worked through; the other, slightly smaller one, the PADDs she had yet to review.

=/\=Captain Straton to all Senior Officers. There will be a mandatory meeting in the Observation Lounge in 1 hour.
I will expect full departmental status reports at that time. Straton out.=/\=

"Aye, Sir," Aya acknowledged, and went on ploughing her way through the PADDs.

(USS Paladin, Observation lounge, COUNS Lt(jg) Ayesha Kotal - 0756)

Aya walked into the Observation Lounge a few minute early and saw a few people already there.

"Good morning," she said to those in the room.

She noticed Michael and stopped by his seat.

"You know, that little program you gave me is the reason I'm here on time," she said with a smile as she moved over
to the side-table to get something to eat and drink before she sat down.

Calvin had arrived to the conference room, and he met two operations officer
in there setting it up for the other officers to arrive. There were some nice
treats and drinks set up on a side table.

In the rush of things Calvin did forget eat breakfast and there was 15 minutes
until the meeting started so he began to graze the table. After he was
satisfied with his appetite Calvin sat down at his seat and waited for the rest of
the crew to arrive.

The foursome from the service the night before walked into the conference room, led by the second officer. Joran and
Rana took seats next to each other, and Olesia, being a member of Joran's department, sat on the other side of him.
Christian sat next to her. Soon, Joran heard a voice in his head.

::After the service last night, and their behavior now, I think your brother might be kindling a romance with the new
Science Officer, Imzadi.::

::You think so?:: He looked over at them, seeing them engage in some casual flirting. ::You know what, you may be
right!:: Joran smiled, but didn't let Christian see it.

(USS Paladin - Conference room - TAC/SC Kerge - 07:48)

Walking into the conference lounge, Kerge was aware
that some of the other officers had arrived beforehand
& he acknowledged them with a cursory nod as he walked
to the chair he normally sat in & sat down.

Looking at the small table set aside however, Kerge
almost frowned at the lack of anything particularly
suitable for a Klingon & chose not to partake in the
items layed out upon it as he instead accessed his
PADD to input the remaining data to his personal log
whilst waiting for the others to arrive.

(USS Paladin - Conference room - ACSO Ensign JG K'Palla - 07:49)

K'Palla entered the conference room, and was assaulted by the aroma of fresh foods, making her feel even hungrier
than before. She noticed her countryman, Lt Kerge, glancing over the food, but not taking any.

She stepped up next to him and smiled, taking a small plate and took a few hot biscuits, slathering them in butter
and strawberry jam. She also took a cup of coffee to wash it down. She couldn't wait to sit down and scarfed one
of the biscuits down right in front of the Lieutenant.

"Sorry, sir!" She grinned, wiping a bit of jam from the corner of her mouth. "Terran food isn't so bad once you get
used to it!"

"Sorry, sir!", said Ensign K'palla. "Terran food isn't

Kerge smiled as best it was able for a Klingon to
smile & placed his PADD onto the table.

"I have not yet accustomed myself to such bland
&....... dead delicacies", said Kerge wryly. "However,
I ate before I arrived & am not hungry", he said as
K'Palla continued to eat the nick nacks she had
brought with her with a somewhat satisfied smile.

"Tell me Ensign", said Kerge, "as a member of the
science team, have you ever analysed the composition
of this food", said Kerge.

(Reply K'Palla)

"I see", said Kerge, "but I would still much prefer
our own food", he added as he returned his attention
once again to his PADD.

"Never, sir!" admitted K'Palla. "If I knew what was in it, I would have starved a long time ago!" She punctuated the
comment with a giggle.

"I see", said Kerge, "but I would still much prefer our own food", he added as he returned his attention once again to
his PADD.

"Agreed!" K'Palla nodded. "I can't remember when I last had a bowl of fresh gagh!"

(reply Kerge)

"I truly miss my mother's Skull Stew! She could have been a "vut baS" because of it!!" she added, with a grin, using
a loose translation of the Tele-vid cooking show.

Inwardly, K'Palla was grateful to Kerge for taking the time to speak with her. The man was always so busy and aloof,
but he made time to talk of their home world with her, which pleased her.

Kerge smiled an uncharacteristicly toothy smile at her
words, then he slapped her thigh in a playful gesture
of camaraderie.

"Ahhh, I was begining to think that you had lost your
Klingon spirit Ensign K'Palla", said Kerge, "I can see
now that you haven`t", he added as he began to let his
mind stray to a bowl of the live serpent worms in
question.

"I truly miss my mother's Skull Stew! She could have
been a "vut baS" because of it!!", said K'Palla.

"What I wouldn`t give for my own mothers Kholanese
Stew", said Kerge, his eyes glaring at the thought of
it.

"Perhaps I should have it programmed into the
Replicator sometime", said Kerge turning to look at
his Klingon comrade. "Perhaps you would enjoy
savouring it yourself sometime", he added.

(Reply K'Palla)

"It is an.......interesting dish, I`m sure you would
approve", said Kerge, but then on realising his mind
was straying from his duty, he returned his attention
abruptly to the task in hand & continued on with his
report.

Speaking of Klingon culinary delights had made the
TAC/SC`s mouth water somewhat, but he had hardly been
expecting Ensign K'Palla`s responce to his mention of
trying out the kholanese stew.

"Why, Lieutenant, are you asking me to dinner?", said
K'Palla quirking her head coquetishly to one side as
she spoke.

Kerge`s eyes glared momentarilly as he contemplated
the Ensigns words, she was a fine looking specimen of
that he was most sure but to fraternise with the crew
was not his style. But then again.......

She had only intoned dinner, nothing more.

"Are you accepting if I am?", said Kerge.

(Reply K'Palla)

"Females", said Kerge, "If you thought as well as you
teased you would be almost as good a Warrior as any
male", he added as he sat back into his chair with a
reassured smile.

"Why, Lieutenant, are you asking me to dinner?", said K'Palla quirking her head coquettishly to one side as she spoke.
K'Palla could smell the wood burning as Kerge formulated his response. ~~ Oh, this ought to be good! ~~

"Are you accepting if I am?", said Kerge.

~~ Not bad, not bad at all! ~~ the Klingon beauty thought, then grinned again flashing her eyes at the sturdy Klingon.
"I don't know, you still haven't asked me!"

"Females", said Kerge, "If you thought as well as you teased you would be almost as good a Warrior as any male", he
added as he sat back into his chair with a reassured smile.

K'Palla's grin broadened as Kerge sat down. She could tell a good-natured challenge when she heard one. The Ensign
faced the Lieutenant and crossed her arms. "Sir, I'll have you know that I am as good a warrior as any male! I was
trained for the Blood Sisters Squadron, and I am quite willing to prove my skills, as long as you're not afraid of
being beaten by a girl, that is! We'll talk later!"

K'Palla took a seat a few spots away from Kerge, so she wouldn't be distracted. She always enjoyed the banter of
camaraderie between warriors. Challenges like this always lead to strong friendships, bonded over barrels of bloodwine
and K'Palla could always use another drinking partner!

Klingon woman in response to the Security chiefs
retort.

~We`ll talk later???~ thought Kerge.

~That would not do~

To end their tete-a-tete with her in the advantageous
position was unbecoming of a warrior & Kerge responded
accordingly in the powerplay that was developing.

"As long as I`m not afraid to be beaten by a girl?",
said Kerge disbelievingly. "I am open to fresh
challenge as always but to be beaten by a female!!",
he added as he placed his hands calmly upon his lap,
one clenched beneath the other.

"That will indeed be a first", said Kerge. "I accept
your challenge, it will be an interesting test of your
mettle"

Elizabeth had to run to get to the conference room on time. At first she
thought she had a shift on the bridge at 0800, but after Calvin left the room
and she woke up she found a message that she forgot to check last night.
The message was from Chief O'Conner stating that she would need to attend.

Once she read the message she put herself together as fast as possible
and booked down to the conference room. She walked in and saw that most
of the crew had already arrived. She also noticed the table with food, which
some officers were standing at.

She didn't care to eat much in the morning even know doctors will say it is
the most important meal of the day. However she does enjoy something to
drink. She walked over and saw coffee and tea. Elizabeth was not a fan of
coffee at all, so she poured her self some tea and went had a seat.

As she sat down she looked over at Lt Cmdr Capps. She moved her lips to
say hello in his direction, and he returned the greeting.

It seemed the spirits of the crew had risen by a great amount. The senior
staff were chatty, while others chatted and ate some of the delicious food.
Calvin for the most part ate a few items, drank his tea and looked over his
PADD. He had sat there quietly thinking hard about the past.

The past included his family, and the battles he has served in. But most of all
he thought about how this last battle was the worst one he had ever been in.
It was tough and tricky, but some how he got out of it alive.

He almost lost a person he loved in the last battle. The thought of
losing Elizabeth sent a chill through his back. He couldn't lose her, not now,
not ever.

The chatting from the crew started to drown out his thoughts, and it brought
him back up to speed. He looked around at the smiling faces, and a few
others that were as serious as they always were. He realized that he was
being rude to everyone by not participating in the conversations.

At this time he looked over at the entrance door and walked in Lt Matrix.
Calvin stood up from his chair and walked over to him. "Lt...How are you
this morning?" Calvin asked starting the conversation.

With a slight bow, showing respect for her ranking officer, K'Palla smiled again at Kerge, pleased that he was willing
to match skills with her. Most Klingon men usually blew her off because of her diminutive size, thinking she was no
challenge at all. Apparently, Kerge saw her potential and gave her the respect any warrior deserved by accepting.

"Thank you, Lieutenant! I look forward to that! Since I challenged you, sir, I think it is only fitting that you choose
the format! I will be ready at whatever time of your choosing! Until then!" K'Palla said, full of excitement. It had
been a while since she was able to really test herself, and finally she would have an excellent opportunity.

The Klingon beauty returned to her seat and waited for the meeting to start.

Matrix had finished a long shift the night before, but he was rested and anxious for the day to start. The meeting was
about to start and Matrix made his way to the conference room. Matrix was reviewing ships status and specifically the
engineering systems. Matrix was almost always carrying a PADD with him and it was some what of a joke among the engineering
staff. As he made his way toward the conference room he straightened his uniform and put away his PADD. The doors opened
and he walked in noticing most of the senior staff in the room.

At this time he looked over at the entrance door and walked in Lt Matrix. Calvin stood up from his chair and walked over
to him. "Lt...How are you this morning?" Calvin asked starting the conversation.

Matrix smiled, glad to see the Commander, "Sir, doing well. Thank you." Matrix was conscious of the PADD he was holding,
trying to make it less noticeable.

"So, have you gotten yourself re-acquainted with Engineering?" said the Commander

"Yes, sir. I forgotten how much I missed the Paladin. Its good to be back aboard sir."

(Reply Capps)

"Sir, if you don't mind me asking, what is this meeting about? I haven't prepared a status report, but I could provide
some general information...." Matrix felt uncomfortable and a bit ill prepared for a formal meeting.

"We are glad you are back too. You have been on a member of this crew for
a while and we were sad to see you leave." Calvin looked around the room
and saw that all the senior staff had arrived. "Well I think the meeting should
be starting soon."

"Sir, if you don't mind me asking, what is this meeting about? I haven't
prepared a status report, but I could provide some general information...."
Matrix felt uncomfortable and a bit ill prepared for a formal meeting.

"Pure speculation, but I would have to say we are ready for our next
mission. This meeting is probably going to be the briefing for it," Calvin said.

The First Officer was a little disappointed to hear that the Lt did not prepare
a status report. All officers knew of the meeting the night before. Now was
not the time nor place to talk about though. "Very well Lt. Please provide
the best information you can."

(reply Matrix)

Calvin then turned away from Lt Matrix and walked back to his seat to get
ready for the meeting.

chair and sat down without a word to anyone. He began reading over the
continents of the PADD as he waited for the meeting to start.

(USS Paladin - Conference Room - ATC/ASO Ensign Sam Moto - 0758)

After the nights events Sam was in a rush this morning to get to
today?s
meeting. This was his first anywhere, never mind on this ship, and he
need
to make a good impression.

Stepping out of the turbo lift, he saw the conference room ahead. The
doors
were open and he could see a few officers already there. Most
noticeably was
the FO who seemed to be picking at the food in front of him. This did
remind
Sam that he hadn?t ate since about 8 last night and was quite hungry,
but
that could wait. Now he took a deep breath, straightened his uniform,
and
strode into the room, greeting a couple of people before taking a seat
by Lt
Kerge, who merely grunted at Sam arrival. Other than him, Sam
recognised no
one in the room and felt slightly neverous and uncomfortable as several
of
them glance in his direction, and speaking quietly to each other.

Michael smiled a serene smile and shrugged, "I do what I can. So you settling in to your new digs all right?" Michael
asked as he fiddled with something on his PADD, glancing down at it from time to time.

"Yes, thank you. It's not quite home yet but it will be soon. I plan to make some decorations," she replied with a
smile.

She glanced up as the door opened again and Sam walked in, but he seemed not to recognise her or perhaps he hadn't
noticed her. In any case, he didn't greet her.

"Good morning, Sam," she said in a friendly tone.

(reply Sam iyw)

"Sam Moto arrived on the transport with me," she told Michael. "Later I'll tell you how he beat me on the Holodeck,
several times," she added with a grin. Glancing towards the food again she said, "Can I get you anything? It all looks
so nice!"

NRPG: Sorry I haven?t posted in like 6 days! But I was quite annoyed at
our
. . . Good captains decision but hopefully I can pick it up here!

RPG:

As Sam was sitting down next to Kerge, a bright, friendly, familiar
chirpy
voice greeted him from across the room. "Good morning, Sam." Sam was
pleased
to see his companion from the Klingon transport vessel, Aya at the end
of
that greeting, and he felt quite guilty that he hadn?t noticed her as
he
walked in.

?A good morning indeed Aya. It was nice to see you last night at the
memorial service.? With that he sat down next to kerge, picking up a
PADD to
begin reading the reports of the last few days. But he could not help
overhearing Aya speaking to an officer next to her, especially since he
heard ?Sam? and ?beat me?. It made Sam smile inwardly, and smirk
outwardly.
Looking up he directed his attention towards her, ?I have to give you
credit, there were a couple of moments where I wasn?t so sure I would
win!
You are a fast learner Aya!?

(USS Paladin, Observation Lounge, CO Captain Eva Straton, 0800)

Eva walked into the room right as the time hit 0800. She had a
PADD and a rectangular container tucked neatly under one arm as she
moved
toward the head of the table.

"Good morning everyone," She said, as she walked across the room.
"I hope everyone is well rested and ready for our next mission." She
reached the head of the table and placed the PADD and container down on
the
table but remained standing as she looked around the table at each of
her
officers. "First though we have some unfinished business to take care
of.
We have a few new officers joining the crew. Everyone greet our new
Chief
Counselor Lt(jg) Ayesha Kotal." Eva nodded toward Aya.

(Reply Kotal)

"Our new ACMO, who joined us in the middle of the battle to take
Starbase 234, so has been on the ship for a few days now. Ensign(jg)
Tar
Lanien Loxari," Eva continued, nodding toward Loxari.

(Reply Loxari)

"Our new ATAC\SC Ensign(jg) Sam Moto," Eva said, nodding toward
Ensign Moto.

(Reply Moto)

"We also have a new Science Officer joining us," Eva continued,
"Ensign(jg) Olesia Belden." She nodded toward he new science officer.

(Reply Belden)

"We also have joining us for this next mission Lt(sg) Rick O'Shea,"
Eva said, nodding toward the officer in medical blue.

(Reply O'Shea)

"I will be getting to his role momentarily, but first I want to
take care of something else. Ensign O'Connor front and center." Eva
opened the medium size container and pulled out a small black box as
O'Connor walked to the head of the table and came to attention beside
her.
"Ensign, due to your continued loyalty and service to this ship, her
crew,
Star Fleet, and the Federation I hereby promote you to full Ensign with
all
the privileges and responsibilities of said rank. Also, due to your
quick
thinking during the boarding of the Paladin, I present you with a
Captain
Commendation as well as a Combat Action ribbon. Congratulations." Eva
shook the Ensigns hand while handing him the box with his new pip and
medals.

(Reply O'Connor)

"Ensign Durron, front and center," Eva said, after O'Connor had sat
back down. She watched as the young Ensign stood and walked to the
head of
the table and came to attention beside her. "Ensign Durron, for your
continued loyalty and service to this ship, her crew, Star Fleet, and
the
Federation I hereby promote you to full Ensign with all the privileges
and
responsibilities of said rank. I also present you with a Captain
Commendation for your quick thinking on Star Base 234 thereby saving
the
lives of several of your fellow officers, as well as a Combat Action
Ribbon
for participation in the battle of Star Base 234. Congratulations."
Eva
shook Kyp's hand while handing him the box with his new pip and medals.

(Reply Durron)

"Ensign K'Palla front and center," Eva said, pulling another small
black box from the larger container while K'Palla stood and moved to
stand
at attention beside her. "Ensign K'Palla, for your continued loyalty
and
service to this ship, her crew, Star Fleet, and the Federation I hereby
promote you to full Ensign with all the privileges and responsibilities
of
said rank. I also present you with a Combat Action Ribbon for your
participation in the battle of Star Base 234. Congratulations." Eva
shook
K'Palla's hand while handing her the small black box with her new pip
and
medal.

(Reply K'Palla)

"Lt Matrix and Ensign Loxari front and center," Eva said, pulling
out two more small boxes as the two officers came forward to stand at
attention in front of her. "For your service to this ship during and
immediately following the Battle of Star Base 234, I hereby present to
each
of you a Combat Action Ribbon. Congratulations." Eva shook each
officers
hand while handing them the box containing their medal.

(Reply Matrix, and Loxari)

Eva waited till Matrix and Loxari had retaken their seat before she
continued. "Now on to our next mission, " She said, typing in a
command on
the tables control pad, activating the built in holo-display. A three
dimensional view of a region of space came into view in middle of the
table. "Sector 165, recently captured by forces loyal to the 52nd and
Admiral LoDona. The sector has been a hub for interstellar trade in
the
region for many years. The 1st Battle Group has been ordered into the
sector for two reasons. First is to defend the sector against possible
counter-attack by forces loyal to Doenitz. The sector was and is a
crucial
part of the supply line. The second reason," she paused to type in
another
command on the table control pad. The view zoomed in on a star system
and
then on a emerald and sapphire planet. "is the colony on Beta Aquari

planetary government for immediate medical assistance. It seems an

to
assist in researching and combating this unknown illness. Fleet

has assigned Lt. O'Shea, an expert in epidemics and xenobiology, to
serve
as mission CMO and to spearhead our research into this unknown illness
sweeping the planet. I will expect all departments to give Dr. O'Shea
what
ever assistance is needed in combating this illness and seeking a cure.
The
entire population is counting on us. Lt. Kerge, both your department
and
the marines will be assisting the planetary law enforcement to maintain
order on the planet. We need to minimize any public hysteria and
maintain
order. Lt. Kotal, that's where you come in, you will need to work with
Lt.

have
to enforce the medical quarantine on the planet. Questions or comments

Sam smirked and looked directly at Aya."I have to give you credit, there were a couple of moments where I wasn't so
sure I would win! You are a fast learner Aya!"

Aya's eyes widened and she blushed, feeling as if the whole room were now looking in her direction (which, to be
fair, they probably weren't). She hadn't realised Sam would have overheard her remark to Michael. Luckily the Captain
entered the room just then, and all eyes turned towards her as she walked across the room.

"Good morning everyone. I hope everyone is well rested and ready for our next mission." Once at the head of the table
she a PADD and container down on the table but remained standing as she looked around the table at all of them. "First
though we have some unfinished business to take care of. We have a few new officers joining the crew. Everyone greet
our new Chief Counselor Lt(jg) Ayesha Kotal." Eva nodded toward Aya.

Aya blushed slightly but nodded and smiled to everyone.

The Captain intoduced the other new crewmembers, including Dr Loxari (who Aya had met the day before) and Sam, as well
as two others who she hadn't met as yet.

Then there were some awards and promotions given out, and Aya was very happy to see Michael was the first of them. Not
only did he get a promotion, but two awards as well! She felt a surge of pride in his achievment after a relatively
short time aboard.

"Thank you, Sir, it's an honor to serve here," Michael said to the Captain, taking the box from her and quickly
returning to his seat. He opened the box and looked at the medals and the new pip.

"Congratulations!" Aya whispered to him under cover of the applause for the next person called up.

(Reply Michael)

The others (apart from Loxari) she didn't recognise, except as faces she had seen the night before, but she duly
applauded each one with everyone else.

Eventually the Captain finished handing out the promotions and awards, and after the last two had sat down, she
continued with the main focus of the meeting.

"Now on to our next mission, " She said, typing in a command on the tables control pad, activating the built in
holo-display. A three dimensional view of a region of space came into view in middle of the table. "Sector 165,

Aya nodded as her name was mentioned, looking round to see who Lt Kerge might be. There was a large Klingon Lt
sitting next to Sam who Aya recognised from the previous night, and since he was wearing yellow she assumed that
was probably Lt Kerge. She made a note on her PADD to speak to him after the meeting.

"How long will it take us to get there?" Asked the FO.

"Sir, will we be taking on any new equipment or specialized supplies for this mission?" Michael asked, pulling
out his PADD and bringing up a list of all the field medical supplies and things that might be needed for a planet
wide epidemic.

then looked at the Captain, shaking her hand. "Thank you Captain."

sat down gleaming at this small accomplishment.

proud for those that received their well deserved promotions. He clapped for

The captain had walked in dead on 0800. Briefly greeting a few of the senior officers before setting down a rectangular
box on the table. Remaining standing she addressed the room. "Good morning everyone, I hope everyone is well rested and
ready for our next mission. First though we have some unfinished business to take care of.
We have a few new officers joining the crew. Everyone greet our new Chief
Counselor Lt(jg) Ayesha Kotal.? Nodding towards Aya, Sam?s only friend in the room. Continuing, Straton then introduced
new medical staff, Lanien Loxari, who, to Sam?s surprise, had been plunged in at the deep end, boarding the ship at the
heart of the battle, and Sam could tell from several fresh cuts and the bags under his eyes. Then the captain turned her
attention towards Sam. ?And our new ATAC\SC Ensign(jg) Sam Moto.? Sam looked towards Straton, nodding, before looking
around the table, and gesturing greetings to several members of the briefing.

After a new science officer, and also a medical officer, who?s presence was yet to be explained on joining the mission,
Straton continued with several promotions and awards, given to those of the crew who had exceeded their line of duty
during the last mission.

As the final officers sat down, a Lt matrix and Ensign Loxari seated themselves again the captain began the mission
breifing. A medical emergency on a planet not far from here had arose. It appeared that a highly infectious, and
deadly virus was rapidly spreading throughout the colonies on the planet and required immediate medical and enforcement
assistance to quarantine and aid the bewildered people.

After listening thoroughly to the briefing it was clear that Sam, as part of the security staff, and also the marine
contingent aboard, would be responsible for enforcing and maintaining a tight quarantine around the settlements that
made up the colony. Sam knew this would be difficult. People would be in panic, wanting to flee before they too caught
the virus. It was no doubt that Sam would encounter frightened, angry and determined people, who would prove a
challenge to securities liaison techniques and calm but firm convincing would be required. ~Self control would be
put to it?s tests in everyone~ Sam thought. ~After all, these people are not our enemy, but they still pose a threat.
No wonder Aya has been assigned to work along side us.~

Sam decided to sit back and watch the meeting unfold before he introduced his concerns and views on the situation.

K'Palla listened to the Captain introduce the new crew members. It was always good to see new faces. She wondered

K'Palla was surprised to hear her name. She had not expected to stand as her friends did, given her brief time on

~~ Father, this is for you! ~~ the Klingon beamed inwardly, as she returned to her seat. More awards were given
and then the Captain outlined the next mission.

(USS Paladin, Observation Lounge, Mission CMO Dr Rick O'Shea, 0820)

"Dr. O'Shea," the Captain said, nodding toward the doctor. "Would you
care to bring us all up to speed on what is known so far."

Rick rubbed his beard for a moment before standing up.

"So far, remarkably little," he said abruptly and made to sit down,
then
caught the Captain's eye and remained standing.

"The virus has spread very rapidly. We believe it to be airborne,
highly
contagious and it is deadly. It has already jumped species several
times
so we also know that it is mutating. And no, I do NOT just mean that it
affects humanoids. Reports from the colony suggest that it first made
an
appearance amongst animal stocks. At first, the only people affected
were few and far between, and it is thought that they contracted the
virus from their own livestock. By no means all were affected, and at
first only a few actually died. But once it made the leap to the
humanoid population it appeared to become more virulent as it spread.
One major settlement has been nearly wiped out, and unfortunately some
foolish people from that settlement left, carrying the virus with them,
and it has now spread to several other settlements. It is only a matter
of time until the whole colony is affected, unless a strict quarantine
is observed. The colony does not have the required manpower to do that,
nor do they have the facilities for the necessary research. Our task
will be to investigate the virus and if possible find a cure, and to
assist in the enforcement of the quarantines. If we cannot find a cure
or a vaccination that prevents infection, then our task will be to
prevent it spreading to other planets in the system and beyond by
whatever means necessary. We will need to observe the progress of the
virus from infection to death. Reports from the facilities on the
planet
have been rather vague so far, but what we do know is that the symptoms
begin with a temperature and some symptoms similar to the common cold.
The bad news is that within 48 hours, those infected become so
debilitated that they virtually waste away and die."

Rick paused and took a drink of water.

"The really bad news is that the five latest cases have become fatal
within 24 hours."

Eva stood as Dr. O'Shea finished speaking. "I want Tactical and
Marine departments ready to assist authorities on the ground
maintaining
order. Also, all fighters squadrons should be ready to enforce the
planetary quarantine, as well as provide air support to forces on the
ground as needed. All that while still remaining ready to defend the
system should enemy forces attempt an attack. I will go over fleet
deployment with Commander Rulestaad latter today. We all have a lot of
work to do before we reach the system. If there are not other
questions,

The meeting ended and K'Palla got to her feet to leave. She had several things running through her head. In her
science studies, she had taken an interest in the genetic history of the Klingon cranial ridges. There was a time
where the Klingon race lost those characteristic ridges. All she was able to discern was that it was brought on by
a plague of some sort. The rest of history books were vague. She wondered where she would be on this mission.

K'yp had been somewhat aloof since their encounter, which disappointed her. She liked the man, but wouldn't obsess
over it. Oak-honor always had eyes for her, and Lt Kerge had expressed an interest, or was that just man ego talking?

With a grin, she left the meeting and headed to the Science Labs.

The Captain stood at the end of the meeting and dismissed everyone to
their various tasks. Michael stood up, catching Aya's eye before he
looked over at Doctor Shea. "Doctor, if you need any special
equipment out of storage, anything replicated, or facilities set up,
please let me know, and we will get things set up for you ASAP, Sir."
Michael said, with a smile. "I am going to get in touch with my teams
and start breaking out the field hospital units and other field
equipment. If you need to meet with me later sir, just let me know
when," Michael said.

(Reply O'Shea, room for more if you want)

Michael nodded and moved to catch up with Aya, snatching the boxes off
the table. Walking up next to her, he smiled. "Hey can you do me a
favor?" Michael asked.

(Reply Aya, assuming yes, if not I can change this.)

"You mind helping me switch out these rank pips, I can never get them
without a mirror." Michael said with a smile.

~~Ok, I think this qualifies as flirting, just watch it buddy~~ He
thought to himself, as he handed the box to Aya.

Rick looked at the young OPS officer and nodded. "Mike O'Connor,

"I'll need to check with the CMO, see what's already in Sickbay, but
I'll be sure to let you know what I need. No doubt I'll have a list as
long as your arm, most Sickbays aren't set up for this kind of work."

O'Connor nodded and moved away towards a young woman. Rick grinned to
himself and stood up, looking around for the other doctors. He could
see
several people in blue but which were Science and which Medical he
wasn't sure yet. It didn't largely matter to him at the moment, he
needed to liaise with science as well. So he walked up to the nearest

Aya watched Michael speak to the new doctor for a minute or so, then he
nodded and moved to catch up with her, snatching the boxes off the
table
as he did so. Walking up next to her, he smiled. "Hey can you do me a
favour?" Michael asked.

"Of course," Aya replied, smiling back.

"You mind helping me switch out these rank pips, I can never get them
without a mirror." Michael said with a smile as handed the box to Aya.

"I'd be glad to," Aya replied, wondering if he were flirting with her,
or just asking a friend to help him out.

~Maybe a little of both,~ she thought to herself with a half-smile.

Being almost of a height with Michael, she didn't have to stand on
tiptoe to see what she was doing, which made it easier. Nevertheless,
it
felt a curiously intimate thing to be doing, especially since she could
feel the warmth of his neck as she slipped her slender fingers behind
his collar to remove the blank pip and insert the new, gold one. She
took a moment or two to adjust it, perhaps ever so slightly longer than
was strictly necessary.

Satisfied it was safely in place, she stepped back a little to view the
effect, head tilted slightly to one side.

"Very nice," she said, lifting her grey eyes from his collar to meet
his
green ones. "You should save this one," she added after a moment,
turning away slightly to put the blank pip into the now empty box and
then turning back to hand it to him. "Next rank up you'll need it, and
you never know when we might run out of pips," she added, grinning.

(reply Michael iyw)

"Would you like to have lunch later? Or maybe dinner?" she asked
suddenly, the words almost tumbling out of her mouth in her haste to
get
them out without stammering. "Only if you want to, or don't have
anything better to do or you aren't meeting someone else or won't be
working or -"

She broke off, blushing slightly as she had the feeling that she was
making an idiot of herself, and waited for him to reply.

~It would be so much easier if I could use my empathy to see what he's
feeling~ she thought, but she knew that she would never intrude on
someone's privacy like that, uninvited.

"Medical or Science?"
"Science," he answered. "I'm actually the department head and Second Officer. Lieutenant Brownlee, nice to meet

"Science," he answered. "I'm actually the department head and Second
Officer. Lieutenant Brownlee, nice to meet you," he said extending his
hand.

"Dr O'Shea," Rick said. He looked at the hand being offered to him.
After a moment or so longer than was polite, he took Brownlee's hand
and
shook it briefly. He found social niceties tedious, but since he would
have to work with these people, he supposed he should conform for the
moment at least.

"I was thinking calling a meeting at around 14:00 today to discuss the
situation. Gather the people from Medical you will need, and meet me in
my office on Deck 7. Let's see if we can't make some headway on this
virus."

Rick eyed the Vulcan hybrid for a moment, considering his reply. The
CSO
was obviously trying to be helpful, and nothing would be gained by
alienating the man from the start, so he decided to be tactful. Or as
tactful as his nature would allow. "Ah, so you think that would be the
logical approach?" he said. "Very well, then. Though it may just be me,
I have no idea of the calibre of the medical staff here. No point in
dragging along a lot of make-weights. Ah, no, come to think of it I'll
have to bring whats-his-name, Lox-something, since the boss-lady told

with a wink, "D*mn fine looking woman. You suppose all that stern
coldness and touch-me-and-I'll-have-your-hand-off she projects is just
her way of hiding a passionate nature?"

(Reply Brownlee, room for more)

Rick noticed a tall human-looking woman hovering nearby.

"Yes?" he barked. "Dr Lox-thingy, are you?"

The woman jumped slightly. "Uh, n-no, I'm the Counsellor, Lt Kotal."

Rick sighed. "And?"

"And I thought I should introduce myself to you."

"OK, you've done that. Now run along, I've got people to meet and
meetings to people. Not to mention a planet to save. No, wait. Before
you go, where's Dr Lox?"

Lt Kotal looked around the room and caught sight of the ACMO, rather to
her relief judging by her expression. "Dr Loxari's over there," she
said, pointing.

"Fine. Run along now, there's a good girl. " Rick made shooing motions
with his hand and headed over towards the red-haired man, tapping him
on
the shoulder as he got there.

"Dr Lox? I'm O'Shea. The boss-lady says I have to work with you. Hope
you're up to scratch!" He looked at the ACMO a little closer. "Part
Betazoid, right? Hmm, you might be useful after all."

Calvin remained sitting after the Captain announced that the meeting was
over. He watched the rest of the officers slowly move away from the table
and make there way to the doors. His stare began to grow longer, but he
wasn't looking at anything in particular. He continued to look at the far east
wall as he thought about the new mission.

The mission felt like it was 3 in 1. The task force would have to protect
the surroundings while quarantining a colony (possibly an entire world), and
the crew needed to come up with a miracle potion to cure disease. It was
going to be hard and long hours of work into a field of study that the Lt Cmdr
was never really good at.

He snapped out of his small trance, but only long enough to look at the
Mission CMO. As soon as his eyes hit his face, Lt Cmdr Capps began to
think about what he had said in the meeting. It was going to take the Paladin
36 hours to get to Beta Aquari III, and people will start dying in 24. With that
in the back of the FO's head he stood up and walked over to Lt O'Shea who
was already speaking to other officers.

When there seemed to be a pause in the conversation Calvin quickly took

A few moments later Matrix arrived at deck 16 and made his way to the large holodeck. Matrix approached the entrance
and noted the holo-console. No activity, he tapped the enter pad and entered the large, blank holodeck. As Matrix
stepped through the doors and into the room the doors closed behind him.

"Computer, recreate main engineering of the Paladin with all the current systems status in the simulation."

[That process will require you to leave the holodeck area while the simulation is created.]

"Very well, how long with it take to setup the simulation?" replied Matrix.

[At current ships status, the estimated completion time is 18.1 minutes.]

"Good, Computer, setup the simulation and save into main memory, Matrix Engineering Sim Alpha. Notify me when the
simulation is ready."

[Acknowledged.]

a brief pause. Calvin walked in and saw Eva. "Reporting as ordered sir."

Eva didn't have to wait long till the three officers showed up,
almost all at the same time. "Have a seat, all of you," She said,
taking a
sip of her tea before putting the cup down on her desk, before turning
her
chair and sitting up straight behind her desk.

"I've spent the last few hours working with Command Rulestaad on
hammering out some strategy for when we finally arrive in the Beta
Aquari
system," She said, looking at each officer in turn, "This mission is
going
to be logistical nightmare, not to imply that our last mission was a
piece
of cake. There are millions of lives potentially at stake on Beta
Aquari
III, billions more if we fail to maintain the quarantine. On top of
that,
we have an entire sector to patrol and defend against possible
counter-attack. During the course of the mission, it may become
necessary
for me to spend more time in Strategic Operations working with
Commander
Rulestaad on fleet matters. In that event, I do not want the other
aspects
of the mission to be compromised. Commander Capps, you will need to be
prepared to take charge of the situation on Beta Aquari III in the
event
that I am otherwise occupied. Lt. Brownlee, in addition to your duties
as
Chief Science Officer, you will need to be prepared to serve as the
Commander's right hand in this event. That may very well include
coordinating things between the ship and the surface. I recommend
keeping
Ensign K'Palla in the loop as much as possible so that she can take
charge
of things in the Science department in the event you are needed
elsewhere.
Which brings me to you Ensign O'Connor, so far your performance has
been
exemplary. I expect it to continue to be so, therefore I am naming you
Third Officer. You will work with Command Capps and Lt. Brownlee to
ensure
the successful completion of this mission. This will require
additional
duties outside of your duties as Chief of Operations. I expect you
won't
let me or the people of Beta Aquari III down. Questions or Comments?"

Michael listened to the Captain's speech, wondering at first why he
had been called in, sure logistics were his thing, at least when it
came to organizing power and supplies, but strategic operations was a
hair out of his league. It wasn't until she got to the end that
Michael understood. Frankly he was stunned by the news, he had only
been on the ship a week and was still just an ensign, and they were
making him third officer.

"You won't be dissapointed, sir, I won't let you down," Michael said,
as he sat next to the first and second officers, his back straight
with a certain degree of pride.

(USS Paladin - Ready Room - Lt Cmdr Capps - 1242)

Calvin had a seat in one of the chairs that were provided for the Captain's
guest. Along with the Lt Brownlee and Ensign O'Conner the FO listened
to Captain Straton as she spoke about the mission.

It seemed to Calvin that his earlier thoughts about this new mission was
indeed more in depth than some might have believed in the first place.
That meant that there would be more work that needed to be done, which
meant that officers would be more restless, tired, and possibly a little cranky
to say the least. A meeting with the councellor might be a good idea.

Along with his regular duties he was going to have to keep a close eye
on officers. But with his 2O and now 3O there to help it made the work load
a little easier. Of course that was to say if they weren't already buried with
work themselves.

Lt Brownlee has a major responsibility to helping finding a cure, or at the
least finding a way to stop spreading the disease. Ensign O'Conner
would always be busy with deployment of ships, fixing problems, making
items, and those were just a few.

No one had a small task in this mission. Each person was a key player
to succeed. If one failed their individual task the mission could possibly
mean failure. So team work was going to have to be a must, and need, and it
was a want.

As the Captain closed she asked for questions and Ensign O'Conner was the
first to speak out. "You won't be disappointed sir, I won't let you down."

Calvin spoke next. "Aye sir," the FO said acknowledging that he had just heard
and understood what the Captain just explained. "Have we gotten any reports
if there is any resistance to a quarantine?"

(reply any)

"I believe a little was to be expected. I am glad we have our marines to back us up on this one."

Joran was looking through some of the reports from the colony that they were underway to, when it dawned on him that
he had not yet offically called the meeting. He tapped his communicator.

"Lt. Brownlee to Ensigns K'Palla, Belden, Loxari, and Lt. O'Shea. Deptartmental meeting in my office in 15 minutes."

K'Palla was working on some routine items in the labs when she got the call.

=^= Lt. Brownlee to Ensigns K'Palla, Belden, Loxari, and Lt. O'Shea. Deptartmental meeting in my office in 15 minutes.
=^= said the CSO.

"Acknowledged, sir." K'Palla said as she tapped her badge.

At the appointed time, the Klingon entered Brownlee's office. "Ensign K'Palla reporting, sir."
