George Orde - 1314) (USS Spectre, Bridge, CO, Captain Remae Ktell - 15.00) (USS Spectre Bridge, Kahila Lono, 15:00) (USS Spectre: Bridge - TAC/SC Pierce Orde - 1504) (USS Spectre - Sickbay - CMO Cambridge - 20.05) SS Spectre: Captain's Ready Room - Maria Orde - 2005) (USS Spectre: Bridge - Lt. Pierce Orde - 1305) When Captain Remae entered the bridge, Pierce quickly got out from under the console he was working on. ~A ship full of engineers and they're all busy, leaving the security chief to repair bridge consoles. Well, it's done now,~ he thought wryly. He assumed his station, heard the Captain's departure order, and nodded once. ~Feels good to be on a ship again.~ -Lenox - Lord of Hyphens (USS Spectre: Engineering - Lt. George Orde - 1314) "Begin to back track the cause of it anyway and maintain scans on the warp core," George heard the young ensign order. ~He's the one in charge here, and it'll be good of you to remember that,~ the older engineer reminded himself. He shuffled quickly over to a panel and began to monitor readings. ~Hmm.. Looks like a manifestation of one of Scholtsky's theories. Then again, it may not be.~ He collected his thoughts into a PADD and kept tinkering. (Reply any) (Posted by Lenox) <> (USS Spectre, Bridge, CO, Captain Remae Ktell - 15.00) The ship had been slowly accelerating to a cruising speed of warp 5. She was heading for a proving ground governed by Starbase 8. New and repaired ships were sent here to test weapons, sensors and other vital systems before heading out on deep space assignements. Remae's orders were simple, to put the ship through her paces over the afternoon to see if the ship could be relied upon, they had to be back at Utopia Planitia by 0700 on the Stardate 2406.03.09, that didn't leave a lot of time for the testing. "Captain, we're approaching Starbase 8.", said Lt Wilson at the CONN. "Drop to impulse and hail the base.", ordered Remae, shifting in his seat as the viewscreen switched on. "Starbase 8, this is the USS Spectre, on approach, requesting access to the proving grounds as soon as possible." =^= Understood Spectre, we've been expecting you. Clearance granted, you may enter at your own discretion. =^= "Understood, thank you, Spectre out.", he said. before opening up another shipwide channel. "All hands, this is the Bridge, the ship is about to enter the test area, over the new few hours, all departments will be tested but the exact nature of those tests is random, these include tactical, engineering, medical, science and other unknown elements. including a live fire exercise. As result, we are now going to Red Alert. Bridge out.", said Remae, closing the channel. "Pierce, Red Alert, raise shields.", he ordered and a few moments later, the lights on the Bridge dimmed and the alert klaxon went off several times before going silent again. "CONN, take us in, one quarter impulse." Not a moment had gone by after passing the entry beacon; the ship was in for its first surprise. *** SHABANG *** Remae was knocked out of his seat; it seemed that the controllers on the Starbase, who were running the drill, decided that the Spectre was a good source of target practice for their drones. "Return fire!", he ordered and before long, the ship was under attack from multiple drones, each firing, dodging and weaving, testing the ships defences. (Reply from Tactical) While the ship was engaged in combat, the ship received a hail from inside the test area. =^= Emergency, this is the transport ship Endeavour, we are disabled and our life support systems are failing, we require evacuation. repeat.. =^= ~ Great ~ "CONN, take us to those coordinates. Bridge to Sickbay, prepare for the transport of survivors and wounded, we'll be in transporter range within 5 minutes." (Reply from Medical) Suddenly, the lights went out, and all that was left was the red glowing lights from around the flashing Red Alert lamps. "Report?", he said, hoping someone had an answer. (Reply from Bridge Officers) "Engineering, this is the Bridge, the Starbase just ordered our computer to shutdown the core, to simulate a warp drive failure, get it back online as soon as possible, Bridge out." (Reply from Engineering) Still under attack from the drones, the Spectre limped towards the Endeavour and their mission to rescue the survivors, although, with the poor shape they were in, Remae wondered if they were the ones who wound need rescuing. (Reply from Any) (Posted by Anthony Keen) --------------- Freedom Squadron, a Star Trek email adventure (USS Spectre Bridge, Kahila Lono, 15:00) Kahila Lono sat in the FO's place, next to the Captain, when he gave notice: "All hands, this is the Bridge, the ship is about to enter the test area, over the new few hours, all departments will be tested but the exact nature of those tests is random, these include tactical, engineering, medical, science and other unknown elements. including a live fire exercise. As result, we are now going to Red Alert. Bridge out.", said Remae, closing the channel. Then he ordered: "Pierce, Red Alert, raise shields." A few moments later, the lights on the Bridge dimmed and the alert klaxon went off several times before going silent again. "CONN, take us in, one quarter impulse." Kahila felt alert, excited, but uncertain as to what would be expected of her in the next few moments. Then, after passing the entry beacon; the ship was in for its first surprise. Suddenly, the lights went out, and all that was left was the red glowing lights from around the flashing Red Alert lamps. When the Spectre came under attack by a fleet of drones, *** SHABANG*** Kahila was tossed from her chair, but her body reacted instinctively to her martial arts training, and she landed on both feet, in a crouching position. She looked toward the Captain, and saw he was unhurt and getting back into his chair, so she did the same. Instantly thereafter, the Spectre was hailed by the Endeavour requesting evacuation, and the Captain gave the order to move in their direction. Kahila looked from the Captain to the viewscreen just as Pierce shouted: , "CONN! Veer us away from that ship! Captain! It's a trap! That's not the..." he said as a bright burst of light from the 'Endevour' lanced out and... missed the Spectre by a hair, eliminating three drones. Kahila's empathic sense was suddenly touched by Pierce's feeling of dread. ~This is altogether too real! But it is just a test -- isn't it? Even so, that was terribly close!~ Pierce's eyes scanned over his board again. Kahila moved her attention toward him, and realized he saw that two Endevours were listed. One was the one in front of them, the other was one some seven minutes away at full impulse. ~So, the other one must be the real Endeavour. Unless it's a trap too.~ reply any (posted by Josephine Goodman) (USS Spectre: Bridge - TAC/SC Pierce Orde - 1504) "Aye, sir," Pierce Orde responded as he brought the ship's defenses up to full power. When he heard the captain order the ship past the beacon, he tensed slightly. *** SHABANG *** Orde managed to keep to his feet and, on his captain's orders, targeted each drone and fired as the phasers would bear. ~It would've been nice to have the flux cannon right about now...~ The 'incoming hail' light blinked on his console. "Incoming message, sir." =^= Emergency, this is the transport ship Endeavour, we are disabled and our life support systems are failing, we require evacuation. repeat.. =^= Something didn't feel right, but Pierce brushed it off as he fought to keep the drones harrying them off of their collective backs. When the lights went out, Pierce could only manage a soft curse as he rerouted phasers through the impulse engines. A feeling of dread washed over him again, but he couldn't pinpoint it. Minutes later, his eyes flashed up to see the transport. Odd.. that didn't agree with what was on his board. Then a thought hit him. "CONN! Veer us away from that ship! Captain! It's a trap! That's not the..." he said as a bright burst of light from the 'Endevour' lanced out and... missed the Spectre by a hair, eliminating three drones. His eyes scanned over his board again. Now two Endevours were listed. One was the one in front of them, the other was one some seven minutes away at full impulse. He offered up a silent prayer to the CONN officer and whoever was maintaining the sensors. (Reply Remae, Any) (Posted by Lenox) -Lenox - Lord of Hyphens (USS Spectre - Sickbay - CMO Cambridge - 20.05) Cambridge looked over the list of medical officers he had been assigned. He kept running his eyes over the list. They were young, fresh and full of ideas. It was the best and the worst crew you could ask for. But Cambridge had faith in them. After all, they had Rain Anderson as his Assistant Medical Officer. She was one of the best he could have asked for. But there were many things the CMO didn't know about his fellow officer. And it troubled him a bit. Enough to think about it as he sat the desk sorting through the reports from the sorting, fixing and whatever else had decided to need addressing on the Specter. "Would you like to have that meeting now?" He looked up to see Anderson at the door. He smiled broadly. "Welcome, grab a seat Ms. Anderson. "I've run half of the emergency teams through the Rinas IV holodeck program and they have performed quite well with a mortality rate of 18% for the first group and 16% for the second which is well below the predicted rate of 21% from the programmers. I have some ideas for improvement which I will report on once all of the teams have finished." Cambridge nodded. He couldn't remember which team Edison was on and he wasn't about to try. Instead he shuffled some PADDs' around the desk, trying to clean it up a bit while keeping some sense of the disorder that his desk was. "Excellent work Rain. I knew I could depend on you to pull it off. Now..." Maxwell leaned back in his chair, stretching his muscles as best as he could. He asked the questions in order, but slowly, leaning forward and looking right into her eyes with compassion and caring. "How are you? How has the transition from Starbase to Starship treating you? Anyone on this boat causing you trouble? Sleeping well?" (reply Rain, any) (posted by Sulu) (USS Spectre: Captain's Ready Room - Maria Orde - 2005) He smiled before adding, "Any questions?" Maria nodded her head once. "Aye, Capt'n," she spoke in her slight Highland lilt. "I just wanted ye to know that ye can count on us -- we've served on Starfleet ships before. We have the necessary experience and certifications, not that you mind the latter. But it'll be nice to be followin' orders an' advising instead of givin' them for a change."
