Mission: To Have or Have Not
Day: 1
Stardate: 2446.09.10
(Vulcan - Capitol City - Garage - Captain Sekal - 1610)
It was an uncouth name for the building which was made of synthecrete and
glass and attached to the spaceport, before departing on this excursion he
had arranged for transportation. The lot number of the vehicle had been
sent to him along with its location, there was no one to meet, no line to
circumvent in order to take possession of the leased skimmer as the funds
had already been transferred.
The temperature inside was kept within a tolerable range for both vulcans
and off worlders which was almost chilly for a native but not too warm for
their visitors.
Off-Worlder, some of the elder generation still used the term in a
derogatory fashion though they tended to be either very old or members of
the most ancient of houses. One would think that a reliance upon logic over
emotion would expunge such racial or xenophobic tendencies but it rather
cemented it into the core of a society or drove it underground and while
one could cover it with the veneer of civilization it festered beneath the
surface.
What color do you think he had chosen for the vehicle? A drab brown?
Yellow? Ochre? Far from it, the official colors of the Illuminar included
cobalt blue so the fact that this conveyance was of that rich color should
come as no surprise. The gull wing door lifted at his approach, the fob in
his pocket notifying the vehicle that its master was approaching. It was
sleek, narrow and arrow nosed and promised speed, just like his ship. It
wasn't the newest model but neither was it older than two solar years and
for the next five days it was his to use.
You'd think that a successful officer would have such a vehicle for his own
but why? As an explorer he was seldom planetside, either on his homeworld
or seat of the Federation except on official business and for short
duration, purchasing one using Federation energy credits was hardly a
logical use for them so they were building up within a StarFleet account.
Every so often he would dip out a small amount to add to the ships
entertainment fund which Sienna would then slip into the alcohol ration.
She hadn't told him but knew he had been aware of it and he had no
preference for which form of entertainment the funds were earmarked for.
Speaking of Commander Verin who was like a sister to him, if vulcan sisters
were willful, emotionally mercurial and impish as well as highly empathic,
there was no way to know how long the special mission she had been sent on
would last and even then if she would be returning as executive officer. If
not... another would have to be chosen.
He slid into the vehicle from the left side, the interior seat cushions
molding to fit his form, ready to become a firm, cushioning agent should an
accident occur.
The instrument panel lit up with deep, cerulean lights as he activated the
engine, closed the folding door with his left hand and then placed both
appendages squarely on the split control wheel before him. Firmly
acquainted with the control scheme and ready after a moment he activated
the anti-grav field, fed the rear thruster power gently then slowly eased
it ahead, within ten minutes he was away from the spaceport and on course
to his ancestral home.
