(USS Illuminar – Deck 6 – Science Lab 5 – Dr. Gaillus Penn – 1202)


Penn had gotten used to the fact that, in general, he and Teller were the smartest people in the room.  He would have been able to handle his loss in the final round of the stratagema contest if he had lost to Teller.  But to lose to that Zakdorn was a pill hard to swallow, and he spent a great deal of time brooding over it and replaying the last movements of the game over and over in his head, trying to figure out where he had gone wrong.


He turned his head and looked at Teller as he set his Martian Sunrise next to him.  At least he lost for a decent reason.  He figured that he had started picturing his opponent, a very attractive Vulcan female, naked.  He had a very vivid imagination.  Watching the previous matches he knew that she really had no chance in winning.  Her moves were too logical and predictable.  He wondered if she had worn that low cut bodice as a distraction strategy.


He finally shook himself out of his funk and took a drink as Teller’s voice rang out.  “Darla to Nemo. “


Penn nearly spit his drink out at the comment.


Teller went on, “Auntie Em to Dorothy.  Mushu to Mulan,” he called excitedly. He watched as his friend started to stir.  “Roget of Altair, McCoy of the Enterprise. Crusher of the Enterprise.”


Teller rolled off his lounge chair and stood up.  He stretched out his arms then picked up his glass and drained it.  In spite of his bad mood he smiled.  Then he moved over to look at what Teller was looking at.


As he read he ran his finger along the inside of his glass and licked the remaining liquid from his finger.  He stopped and smiled, finger still in his mouth.


As he pulled his finger from his lips he said, “Willie E. Coyote to Bugs Bunny. Wolfgang the Nazi to Lily Tomlinson.”
