“I hope you do not infuriate your lady, like me today,” Tavay said angrily.
Stev frowned at the comment and looked at his feet when he said, “I probably did far worse when she was alive.” He reached up and touched his ear where the earring she had given him at their wedding used to hang.
Tavay froze for a moment and when Stev looked back at her he could see the regret in her eyes. “She and my daughter both died on the Rhyne.”
“Sorry,” she said. “I do have your back.”
Stev nodded and worked past his feelings. This was not the time to fall apart. He pulled out his PADD and began to go through the medical files they downloaded. He was able to find the information about the crewmen in the medical center.
As he looked from patient to patient he was starting to see the commonalities of the symptoms. He shook his head in disbelief. Their ship was a mining ship and the medical facilities available were not… state of the art. He needed more information but what he was looking at right now chilled him to the bone.
Suddenly he pulled out his medical tricorder and began to scan himself, then Tavay, then one by one the others. Finally he made his way to the cockpit, adjusting the tricorder for Vulcan anatomy and scanned the Captain and security chief.
“Captain,” he said softly, “I’ve got some bad news.”

“I was right,” Kyllee said. “Those miners did not meet their end In violence. Or at least, not the type of violence you might be considering. It was an internal battle. Look here…”. He showed his readings on the PADD.
“As you can see there are many similarities,” he changed the view, “and many differences in the way these bodies broke down. It appears, at first, to be some kind of hemorrhagic fever. But if you look here…” he changed the view again, “I believe these were the Tellarites in the floor. It looks like their cells were all completely oxygen deprived. Their cells literally suffocated.”
