Day: 7

(Q'onoS — Imperial City — Hall of Warriors — aCSO — LT tlha'nISta' — 1123)
At Ariel Trei's «nentay» ("Rite of Ascension"), Lanista felt a bit like a
fish out of water — but then, she always had. Anywhere she was. Wherever
she went.
As a child aboard a Klingon privateer vessel, she was always outwardly not
entirely Klingon. Even the ridge pattern of her forehead put some in mind
of the Romulan "accipiter avis" symbol. Being the Captain's daughter
afforded her some leeway but there were always tensions between Lani' and
those (thankfully few) ambitious full-bloods who thought they should enjoy
a position of honor aboard the chalche'yon. Or even the Captain's chair.
Lanista's father QolloH was, however, competent enough a warrior to put
down the rare mutiny attempts that did transpire.
In-fighting aboard stopped however, regarding Lani', once she outgrew those
who saw her as a political impediment to their progress. The genes that
regulate growth are contributed by the female in Klingons and by the male
in Vulcans. Since Lanista's parentage is the opposite, her growth had to be
regulated artificially — whether through a careful dietary regimen or by
medical intervention. (The condition is referred to as "heterosis", "hybrid
vigor", or "over-expression.")
The period of peace after Lanista's jak'tahla made her a formidable warrior
came to an end when Lanista's mother Ti'amah died during a mission
undertaken for one of the Houses Major. There was no glory in her demise.
And it was impossible to avenge someone who perished in an unfortunate
accident. There was also no opportunity to celebrate Ti'amah's honor in the
aftermath. If QolloH mourned, he did so privately. And the crew got back to
business-as-usual more quickly than Lanista thought was warranted.
Her grief ultimately drove Lani' to turn away from her Klingon-ness, and
from the family business. In short, she made an emotional decision to flee
to the homeworld of the emotionless — her mother's people. But she was a
fish out of water there too, on Vulcan. Being there however did present her
with the opportunity to enroll in Starfleet Academy, where she excelled in
her studies and in various sports. She even founded an unofficial parkour
club which she enjoyed immensely until it was disbanded for being too
disruptive on Academy grounds.
On 2408.01.07, she graduate from the Academy and from then until the middle
of the next decade served aboard several ships: the Gannicus, Dennison,
Mithrandir, and the Rosenante. These vessels made her wonder who in Grethor
authorized such names! What was wrong with "Revenge", or "For The Glory",
or "Victory or Death" …?
While assigned to "Special Duty" from the late 2410s to date, Lanista
served aboard ships more "appropriately named." Her division of SFI also
made great and effective use of her unique set of skills. That was
(finally) "home" so her abrupt transfer from SFI to standard Fleet duty
aboard the Illuminar came as something of a shock.
As did Pe'tah's attentions now…
Neither the transfer nor Pe'tah were unwelcome surprises, though. Pe'tah
made his intentions clear. After he spoke to Ariel Trei, saying, "you've
have shown your heart as that of a warrior. I had once offered you to be
part of the House of Nogga, but to be awarded a House of your own is much
more impressive gesture. Still, the House of Mogh and the House of Nogga
shall always be connected, I believe," he approached Lani' with a different
bearing.
Stating, in front of witnesses, 'the House of Mogh and the House of Nogga
shall always be connected…', he approached and bowed his head. “Lieutenant,
I trust I will see you at tonight’s celebration?” Pe'tah asked. It was a
notably un-Klingon manner of speaking. He clearly wanted something but
didn't think that he could acquire … whatever it was … in a typical Klingon
fashion.
"I'm sure that you will, Councilman," she said.
With that he turned and left the hall leaving Lanista to wonder what he was
up to.
