(Earth — Houston — Crusher Hospital ICU — ? - 1200)

The small room was airily lit by a stream of sunshine through the window
whose curtains were kept pulled back according to a Williams family
agreement. Each sibling, Duke or Sophie would roll it open if closed when
visiting and they did so often, it was a near continual vigil over the
figure quiescent in the biobed.

There was the obvious reclining chair specially purchased facing the bed
along with a matched blue and chrome couch beneath that window. Above the
head of the bed were numerous monitors telling their sad tale of a young
woman clinging to life for reasons unknown.

A figure appeared at the foot of the bed, his slightly tousled, dark brown
hair matching the khaki suit with dark blue shirt that he wore. To a
passing hospital attendant he would not look out of place as just another
visitor. The time had been carefully chosen to not coincide with those of
the Williams clan who maintained a near round the clock vigil.

He crossed his arms, his face inscrutable as he gazed at her for a long
moment then began speaking in a low, slightly musing tone.

"Ah Sienna. Such a curious dilemma you find yourself in." He shook his head
slightly. "You spurned my gifts that would have seen you through safely and
now look at you." His arms swung wide as one hand lifted with a waving
motion.

"Near death's door, hovering between life and extinction." He began moving,
his steps taking him on a circuit of the small room and ended with him
standing near the head of the bed to her right.

"Such a curious life you've led, serving under that icicle of a Vulcan that
you consider almost a sibling." The corners of his mouth turned up in a wry
smile. "And his father you look up to as a surrogate parent. What would you
think if you knew that in over a thousand parallel worlds your Captain and
yourself are lovers?"

He chuckled as he crossed his arms again. "But here you've chosen another
who in many ways is his opposite, quite passionate, quite fiery, much as
you are yourself." He shook his head. "And she doesn't like me either. I am
sometimes amazed that one such as I am so derided. What is it like for
those so short lived? Scurrying about in a pell mell rush within a limited
life span? Hurtling toward the next point in an effort to live your
abbreviated lives to the full?"

One hand was raised to scratch his chin reflectivity. "But that is the
question isn't it? A question I've worked so hard to answer for so long.
And your kind call it interference, playing God and such. For a short time
I almost understood after the continuum kicked me out."

His hands were lowered to brace himself on the side of the bed as he leaned
over her and his eyes searched her face.

"This is your lucky day because despite myself I like the fire, the passion
I've seen in you and I've decided that it should continue a little longer.
Maybe you'll even grow old but that is up to you and your choices."

"Awake princess, the world which turns around you waits for no one." His
lips met her forehead in a mocking panoply of a children's story then he
straightened as she stirred, stepped back and gave a smirk.

The fingers of his right hand snapped as she opened her eyes and Q vanished
in a flash of light.
