(Qo’nos - Great Hall- SFI - Lt. Michael Weston -0807)

Weston had spent the night making plans. Everyone else seemed to be going through the motions as if it were all done and his instincts told him otherwise. There were still too many unanswered questions. There was the attack on the Illuminar. There was the death of Ensign Chinlo. He felt they were connected but he didn’t have the evidence. Then there was the strange residue left by the explosion on the Shuttlebay.

He knew that there was more to this. He also knew that if he took down his guards now it could be catastrophic. So his senses were on high alert. T’Mur had been the first to note his tension, and once he discussed it with her she must have passed his concerns on to the others. As his eyes caught sight of the red dot on Morek’s chest, moving north, Sekal had seen it as well.

Michael’s eyes had already been scanning for the possible sniper nest when Galk overturned the table. Suddenly the room burst into activity. A shot rang out and vaporized part of the table. But the shot was not from where Weston’s eyes had been following.

“Get the Chancellor under cover,” Sekal ordered.

Lanista, however, was in the same mind as he was. She had pulled out a device that seemed to be helping her trace the laser sighting. Michael stopped in his tracks. It all seemed too convenient. The tracking of the laser sight, the shot fired from another direction.

He looked over to see a group of Klingons herding the Chancellor towards the exit. Suddenly it all made sense. He tapped his comm badge a he looked around.

“Weston to Dogan, prevent the Chancellor from going through the door.”

The Brikar, who was standing by the door already, simply moved in front of the exit. One of the Klingons moved by him quickly and as he approached the door it suddenly exploded. The Klingon was vaporized, and the blast was contained behind Dogan. The Brikarian’s eyes narrowed and he said blandly, “Ow.”
