(USSIlluminar - Deck 3, Long’sQuarters – SO Kelly Long – 1649)

 

“Ensign Long,” Commander T’Mur began. “Stand up and face me.”

 

Kelly didn’t say anything, but simply did what she was told. ~She’s madwith me.~ Of course, the official line was that Vulcans didn’t do anger. But thiswas the real world. And the real world quite often did not follow the officialline. But she was in trouble enough, so she did not mention that.

 

“How long haveyou served on this ship?”

 

“Ever since she was launched, ma’am.” Kelly said.

 

“In all thattime when have you ever noted that myself, or Captain Sekal, hadsurreptitiously denied anyone their due process? Have you ever seen me,personally, act in a manner that would be considered unfair?”

 

“No, ma’am.”~In fact, I’ve barely met you.~ She had always done her best to avoid contactwith T’Mur. Even on a good day, contact with senior officers made her nervous. “Inever have.”

 

“When have younoted that our lives are any more important than anyone else’s?”

 

“It’s logical, ma’am.”

 

“Now, has anyone everaccused either of us as being compassionate?”

 

“I don’t know, ma’am.”

 

While Kelly loved to gossip about her fellow security officers, shetended to avoid stories about the senior officers. ~Besides, it’s not like wenormally run in the same circles.~ These kind of stories tended to be wrong,anyway. And often led to presumptions that came back to bite people in theirrear. 

 

Commander T’Mur proceeded to lay down the law. ~Here it comes…~ Shelistened as the Lieutenant-Commander made it clear where she stood on thiswhole mess. After what felt like forever, the Commander reached the end of herspeech. ~Time to choose, Kelly.~ Back in the day, she had only joined Starfleetto get away from Pretoria. But over the years, she had grown to like life inthe Fleet.

 

“Be that as itmay there are two items. One, you are relieved of duty until I have had time tofully train you and ensure that you are familiar with all security procedures.You will perform administrative duties until that your training is complete. Doyou understand?”

 

“Yes, Commander, I do.”

 

“Secondly, Iwill be contacting the counselling department and you are to go through a fullpsychological evaluation. This will be required of everyone but you get theopportunity to be first. If you accept these conditions then I see no reasonfor your resignation. If not, then you will be allowed to disembark when wereturn to Federation space. What is your desire?”

 

“I accept the conditions, ma’am.” Kelly began. “I want to stay.”
