(USS Illuminar - Exterior - Shuttlebay Entrance - EO Angus McGuyver, Cadet Wednesday Adams, Cadet Maia Ocano and CEO Tegian Pex- 1515)
McGuyver and Wednesday had been looking at the area of greatest effect from the explosion. Wednesday had stated that it looked almost painful. Of course she always looked at things as if they had a life of their own. She had heard about the entity, Luma, that lived in the shell of the ship. Wednesday could only imagine what it was like for the Lenai to “feel” the damage to the hull of the ship.
=^=This is gonna be scunner to fix,=^= McGuyver said in his thick brogue. =^=Do ye think we’ll get paid extra for doing this.=^=
=^=You’re getting paid?=^= Wednesday’s voice was incredulous. =^=I’m just a lowly cadet, I’m a slave on this foray, I guess. The life of a cadet.=^=
=^=Och, lassie, you were hand selected for this job. Only a cadet is not what I was thinking.=^=
=^=Ensign McGuyver and Cadet Adams, what have you found?=^=
When she turned to see the source of the voice Wednesday caught sight of the CEO coming towards them.
=^=Lieutenant Pex,=^= she said with a nod, =^=I want to thank you for selecting me for this job.=^=
Tegian chuckled over the link, looking around at the view. =^= Ensign McGuyver, Cadet Adams. I guess it is exciting to be out here, despite the damage to the Illuminar. I brought Cadet Ocano with me.”
McGuyver smiled then began to report. =^=This whole section fo the track for the door is going to need to be replaced, sir. We’re working removing the duranium fasteners are gonna be a bear to remove though, since theye’re electron bonded. I’d say at least a eight to twelve hour job. If the people know what their doing.=^=
Tegian looked at the track. =^= Okay, tell me how many people can be doing this at one time and whether or not the Work Bees can be of any use. Or even a shuttle or two. Right now, this is our top priority for the repairs. But, this work is very tiring, so no more than four hours out here, before a rest cycle. And I know our suits should have twenty hours of air, but I want checks every hour. And be sure to check the status of your boots as well and safety lines. I don’t want to lose anyone out here because we got lazy. And always work in teams of two. =^=
Tegian chuckled. =^=Sorry for the safety lecture. Being the new commander, I don’t want to lose anyone. What do we need for equipment out here? I’ve done EV repairs, but not on anything like this. I will get some of the team to replicate the replacement track for the door when I get back inside, but we didn’t bring any tools with us to remove those fasteners.=^=
McGuyver chuckled behind helmet and moved his hands down to his belt. =^=Well L.T. Me mum didn’t raise a fool. If ye don’t have the right tool for the job then you're just wasting time. So I tend to be prepared for any emergency.=^=
When he raised his hand he held a debonder and a riveting tool. =^=I like to be ready for anything.=^=
Wednesday giggled, =^=Is that so? Anything =^=. Then she turned to Pex. =^=l’m pretty good for EVA work sir. I pretty much grew up in a suit. However, I know others aren’t that comfortable. But we’ll look out for them. =^=
Tegian looked at the belt that he had grabbed, noticing a chuckle from behind, to see Cadet Ocano holding a debonder and a riveting tool. =^= Well, Ensign, it would appear we came prepared as well, although I didn’t know it. I would be curious to know your thoughts on the Worker Bees as I’ve never had a chance to look at one. I’ve studied their specs and they’re supposed to be useful for situations like this, but I honestly don’t know anyone who’s piloted one to know if they’re something we WANT to use or if anyone on the team has had time in them.=^=
=^=Ahhh laddie, I’ve been certified on the beast, but I usually prefer the hands-on experience. However, if ye want me to give a go, I’m willing. I think Priscilla Zowie can too.=^=
He looked over the track and the door and tried to imagine how many bodies could comfortably fit without getting in the way. Maybe four teams, two on each track and a fifth team in a shuttle to monitor. He’d also have a lock on everyone from the transporter room, just in case. He wasn’t going to take any chances with his people.
=^= Ensign this my proposal and you stop me, if any of it sounds absurd. Four teams of two out here, two teams on each track, removing the fasteners. Another team in a shuttle as observers, keeping an eye on everyone. And I’ll have the one of the transporter rooms keep a lock on all our people, just in case anything goes wrong, with a medical team in the transporter room on standby. I think this way, we can cut down on how much time it’ll take to get the track off. =^=
McGuyver shrugged, which, in the suit, looked more like a hiccup than a resignation. =^=Can I give you a piece of advice?=^=
Tegian chuckled. =^= Just give orders? =^=
=^=I get that you don’t want anyone tae get hurt, but if you treat yer people like you don’t trust ‘em then you won’t get the performance you want from them. If ye’ve got transporter locks you can always transport them straight to sickbay. You don’t need a medical team at the ready. If you expect people ta get hurt they probably will to make you happy.=^=
Tegian mulled that over. =^= I hadn’t thought about that, Ensign. I’m more worried about pushing all of you to where you make mistakes. But, if you think I’m being overprotective, then I’ll take that advice and skip the shuttle and oversight and trust that our people know their limits. =^=
=^=Sir,=^= Wednesday interrupted, =^=If I can quote one of my academy instructors, if you expect mistakes you’ll get them. We’re all adults here. We know our limitations.=^=
Tegian nodded. =^= I’ve never heard that saying, Cadet. But, I’ll take both of your input. Let’s get to work while I get two other teams out here to help us. =^=
McGuyver hiccuped and turned to Wednesday.=^=Come on Lassie, and I’ll show you how to use the debonder. It’s a ton of fun.=^=
=^=Oh Angus,=^= the cadet giggled, you know how to talk to a girl.=^=
Tegian rolled his eyes. =^= Cadet Ocano, let’s get set up on the other side of the door and you can start working on the fasteners while I get a few more teams out here and get someone working on replicating the replacement tracks. =^=
Tegian turned to look for her, only to find that she was almost to the opening, having already determined that was what she was going to do. He had to almost run to catch up with her. They arrived at the near side of the shuttle bay door. It was a daunting opening. Maiat bent her knees as if she was going to jump, just as Tegian caught up to her. =^= Hold up, Cadet, =^= said Tegian, grabbing her arm. She looked at him, confused. =^= Yes, you can easily jump across. But, you don’t have enough safety line to make it. =^=
Tegian took extra lines coiled on his belt and clipped them to the lines already attached to each of them, extending their length. =^= Okay, now, with the thrusters, jump, do a somersault and land on the other side of the opening. =^=
Tegian grabbed her line as he watched the Cadet attempt the maneuver. She overshot by twenty meters and landed a bit awkwardly, but she waved to him and so Tegian followed. He did a bit better, landing a few meters closer than her, but still overshooting by a wide margin.
=^= Okay, Cadet, get to work while I get some help. =^=
