(Earth - Hamptons - Shadow Pines - Poolside - SFI - Lt Michael Weston - 0936)
After his conversation with Dyson Michael had chosen to take a walk through the grounds of Shadow Pines. The temperature was cooler than he was accustomed to on the temperature-controlled Illuminar. However, it didn’t take long for him to readjust. His childhood in Portland helped. All that was missing was the rain.
It was so quiet and peaceful in the early morning. The only sound was the wind through the trees and the birds and small animals moving. It had been a long time since he had actually seen a squirrel, so he sat down and watch a pair of them playing as they hunted for food. Looking up at the sky he figured it was time to go back. Quinna was most likely up and moving. She was not one to sleep in, but he had hoped that she would. He made his way back along the beach towards the house and the pool area they had eaten dinner the night before.
He couldn’t help but smile at the image of a chocolate-covered Leeza, and the thought of Steve and Alaya cleaning her up before putting her to bed. It was probably one of her easier bedtimes as Steve had to carry her inert, sleeping body back to the house.
As he came close to the house he could hear voices talking. Then he heard Quinna’s voice, unmistakable, over the others. He stepped into the pool area behind Quinna when she said, “Anyone seen Michael today?”
“I may have seen him,” Michael said, smiling. He came up behind Quinna and put his arms around her, kissing her on the top of the head. “Good morning, Dr. Sleepyhead.”
Holding her hand he came around and leaned in for a better kiss, then whispered, “How are you feeling?”
(reply Quinna)
He looked around at the others and nodded to them, “Ms. Trei. How are you this morning? Do you have any plans for the day?”
(reply Trei)
Then he looked up to see Penn and Teller making their way down to the pool area. They still looked a little bleary-eyed. Having sampled their wares from the night before he could only imagine their hangover.
“Gentlemen,” he shouted over to them.
Penn looked up as if in pain, “Please, do not yell. I think I can understand how Schroedinger’s cat may have felt.”
(reply Quinna, Trei, Teller)
