(USS Illuminar – Holodeck One – ACONN AlexanderDyson – 0606)
"Seein's as how I have to do a diagnostic, yeah. I gots an idear, though.I think I can partition the holo-program. If it works, you should be able torun your entertainment while I patch thiings up. Assumin' it goes well, youwon't even notice me. I'll be able to see what y'r runnin', t'see if anythin'goes wrong. Figure it like this, Flyboy… A holodeck can simulate an entire townfor a large group. 'S'far as youse are gonna see, I could be anybody in yoursimulation and ya wouldn't even know me. Sound good?"
“Yep,” Alex began, heading for the holodeck controls. “Let’s get thisshow on the road.”

He keyed in his orders and the holodeck was replaced by the hangar deckof the Battlestar Galactica. So far, he had been flying Vipers. But theGalactica had another kind of support craft. Called the Raptor, it was capableof short jumps using a FTL-drive that bend space. It was normally unarmed, butcould have missiles mounted it. It also had plenty of armor and it’s FTL-driveallowed it to get out dodge when attacked. But what mattered for Alex, was thatflying it was very different then flying a Viper. 

~Widening those horizons.~ While Vermyx did whatever he needed to do,Alex boarded the Raptor. Unlike the Viper, the Raptor had room for three crewand some passengers. ~Two pilots and an ECO.~ He made mental note to suggest toRaid and Snoopy that they should go flying one together. It would make for a goodteam building exercise. This time, he would have to make do with an NPC ECOgenerated by the computer. He finished his pre-flight checklist. 
 
“Okay, let’s get this program moving.”

The Raptor was moved to the Flight Deck and he moved her into clearspace. ~Okay, let’s see how you deal with some math today.~ He told the ECO toactivate their FTL and a five second countdown began. There was a blink as the Raptorjumped away from the Galactica and found herself near a gas giant. 

“Wow ! That G-field is a kick in the rear !”

He had to pull the stick hard to avoid hitting the planet. ~Too close !If this was a real ship, I’d be yelling at whoever plotted that jump.~ But hemanaged to get the small ship clear. On the bright side, the radar didn’t showany hostiles nearby. 

“How did the ‘deck handle that, Vermyx ?”
