NRPG - the fun begins
Mission: Prelude
Day: 1
Stardate: 2446.03.23
(USS Illuminar - Deck 11 - Rec Room - Pilot Ensign Vic ‘Raid’ Montero -
1600)
Vic sipped his drink, a peach ginger glow water. The bartender, an
attractive woman named Becca shook her head as she made the drink.
She’d never seen Vic drink, not that you would know that from some of
the antics he had pulled here.
Bebe slid into the stool next to Vic, “I hear it was a bit of
charlie-foxtrot today?”
“Well, it did have its moments. Except for Deuce’s Mako exploding, a
standard fleet-ex. The new kids got some raw talent, but needs some
lessons in combat. I think Snoopy’s with him now.”
“I heard they recovered Deuce?” Bebe asked.
As if by magic, in walked Deuce, Snake Eyes, Blondie and Spuds. The
four pilots walked in like they owned the place and took seats over at
the other side of the bar. Vic motioned to Becca, “Forgive me in
advance,” he said as he finished his drink.
Becca shook her head, “Just remember, you break it, you buy it.”
Bebe put her hand on Vic’s shoulder, “Not now, Raid. Not now.”
“Have you listened to the play by play?” he asked
“And would Bulldog want you to do this?” she replied. “What about
Gisrig? Ironside? Hubley? “
“They would understand. A line was crossed,” he said. “For what? Wait
here Bebe, I’ll just be a few minutes.”
Vic pushed his stool back, grabbing his fresh drink, he walked over to
the three pilots from Mars. “Good to see you made it Deuce,” he said by
way of introduction.
“Yea, that was hairy. Can’t wait to hear what the engineers say about
that,” he replied, “No hard feelings?” he said holding out his hand.
“Becca, how about some music,” he called, “Waltzing Matilda.”
Becca hung her head and walked over to the console and brought up the
music program. The sound of the lounge changed from the noise of
conversation to the orchestaic prelude to an old Earth song that may
have once been a national anthem for Australia. She eyed Montero
warningly.
As the strains of the song started to fill the rec room, Vic looked at
Deuce’s outstretched hand. Suddenly he laughed, “Becca, a round for
these losers on me,” he said, turning his back on the three and heading
back toward Bebe.
Deuce stood up and put his hand on Vic’s shoulder. “That wasn’t very
friendly of you Raid” he said. “ I heard you were a prick, but always
chalked it up to getting busted so many times.”
Deuce didn’t get a chance to finish his sentence as Vic dropped his
shoulder and spun around, his fist making contact with Deuce’s chin,
sending the man flying backwards into a seat. “Don’t ever mention
Bulldog,” he said, his fists balled up.
Spuds and Snake Eyes jumped up and moved to surround Vic. “That ain’t
kosher,” Spuds said.
Blondie joined them with a sarcastic smile, “Good thing we’re not Jewish.”
Vic chuckled, “Well you ain’t pilots, that’s for sure,” he said as Deuce
started to stand up. “Stay down, if you know what’s good for you,
Deuce,” Vic growled.
“You’re outnumbered Raid,” Spuds moved in, assuming a fighting stance,
“You chose the music, lets waltz,” he said.
Bebe tapped her com “Lieutenant Corday, we have some trouble brewing in
the Rec Room. Raid could use a little help, make that a lot of help.”
There was a heavy sigh at the other end of the comm. =^=Understood, on
my way.=^=
The three other pilots had spread out to make a ring for Spuds and Raid.
The two pilots circled each other, looking for an opening. Spuds
moved in, aiming a kick at Raid’s chest, but the man dodged away from
it, bumping into Blondie, who pushed him forward.
Raid swung at Spuds, who easily blocked the punch, while his own swing
hit Raid in the side.
Raid let out an ‘Oof’, as he tried to land a punch on Spuds, who kept
dancing out of his way.
The door to the Rec Room opened and Corday stepped in with Ensign Dyson
behind. He pushed his way between the circle of spectators, and then
between the three pilots surrounding Montero.
“Is there a problem here,” Corday said, looking at the others, “and I am
using that term quite broadly.”
Spuds wheeled on him, “He started this. He hit Duece.”
“So you decided to go three on one?” Corday said coldly. “You couldn’t
handle two on one in combat in your ships, so you decided to up the ante
in physical combat with three on one? Typical. Now the odds are
evened, are you just as brave?”
Snake eyes moved to stand toe-to-toe with Corday. “Smart mouth there
Lieutenant,” he said. “You going to back that up?” he asked coldly, “Or
fall flat on your face there Snoopy?”
In the middle of the Corday and Dyson’s entrance, Deuce got up and
stepped behind Montero. Delivering a sweep to Montero’s leg, the pilot
went down to the ground. Deuce proceeded to kick the man in the side
while he lay on the ground.
Alex had followed Corday into the rec room and had been watching from a
distance. He moved over and offered a hand to Montero, to help him off
the ground.
“So this is the new fish?” Snake Eyes asked. “Hope you can cook better
than you can fly kid.” He snickered.
Vic accepted the hand and was glad to be back on his feet. “I don’t
know why you are here, but best if you take your sorry asses back to
Mars and lick your wounds.”
“Didn’t you hear,” Spuds said. “We were invited.” He nodded to Corday.
Arthur grinned, “I thought we could, you know, bury the hatchet?”
“All Deuce has to do is to admit he was wrong,” Vic said, “or we can go
on burying the hatchet.”
Deuce chuckled, “All's fair in love and war pretty boy,” he said,
staring at Vic.
“Pretty boy?” Arthur said, looking at Montero. “They think you’re
pretty? Now I have to lower my opinion of them even more. I mean,
mildly attractive, maybe, but I wouldn’t kiss you. Do you want to kiss
him Deuce?”
“I don’t know “Snoopy’,” Spuds stepped forward defiantly. “You planning
on kissing the new fish later. I mean he was my bitch earlier today.”
Alex’s eyes burned. ~That does it.~ He grabbed Spuds and punched him in
the face. There was a really satisfying crack as the pilot’s nose broke.
“I’ll show you who the bitch is!” Dyson said.
He followed that statement up with a second punch. Alex was not the type
to start a fight, but he was the kind to finish it. ~At least the
orphanage was good for that.~ He had gotten into plenty of fist fights
during his time there. Both on his own and with back-up.
Arthur sighed. He had hoped that they could all get together and talk
about the battle and, hopefully, all make friends. Clearly Spuds was
holding a grudge from their last encounter. He wasn’t sure what the
issue with Deuce and Vic was. And Dyson? He just seemed to have an
issue with anyone that crossed him.
He caught Snake Eyes’ approach out the corner of his peripheral vision
and rolled under the punch. He turned his shoulder and delivered a hard
punch to the pilot’s abdomen. Snake Eyes ooffed and spun connecting
with the side of Arthur’s head with a back knuckle strike. Arthur’s
head spun and everything went blurry for a moment.
“Damn it,” Snoopy said, “if that’s the way it’s going to be,” and he
squared off with the man.
“Let’s dance, amigos,” Dyson called out.
Arthur wasn’t sure who Dyson was talking to, but he was already fighting
with Spuds. Snoopy and Snake Eyes were engaged, and Vic was very
involved with Deuce. Bebe had managed to square up with the pilot
called Blondie. Squaring up was quite an accurate statement. It took
her exactly five strikes to drop Blondie to the deck.
