Mission:  Prelude
Day: 1
Stardate:  2446.03.23

(USS Illuminar – Holodeck One – ACONN Alexander Dyson – 0325)

Lucy turned as the dream she was and Alex let the Stuka bomber he had been dogfighting have it. In this war, it had been a case of sink or swim. ~Good thing mom and dad taught me to swim as soon they could.~ He had been four years old when they had begun the lessons. And in the orphanage, it had been one of the few things that had allowed him some alone time. Of course, this was a very different thing then learning to fly a World War Two fighter.

But that didn’t change the fact that Alex had learned how to handle the Hurricane quickly. But he still wanted to clock more hours on the craft. Because he had not been drawing that Mark-II Viper just for fun. Most of the ships he had served on, had not come with holodecks. On the bright side, the holodeck program had come with a copy of the show it was based on. So he had watched the whole thing. To make things worse, he had lost his copy of the program while moving from one assignment to another.

Fortunately, he had found a replacement copy in the Illuminar database. So, he would soon be taking a stab at flying the Mark-II. But first, he had to deal with a wave of incoming Luftwaffe bombers. ~Let’s rock and roll, Lucy.~ So he put Lucy into a climb and got moving.

Viper 1104 launched, which was quite a kick in the rear. ~Whoa, I love this !~ The holodeck program came with two modes. Mode Alpha followed the plot of the show. Mode Bravo was a flight simulator that allowed you to come up with your own story. Alex was using was the latter of the two. Walking around a non-Starfleet vessel – even if it was a fictional one – had been odd. But it was also fun. He cleared the launch tube and found himself in the middle of chaos.

Galactica and two support ships – a pair of cruisers called the Loki and Brenik – were in fight with two enemy capital ship. Called Basestars, these were manned by the Cylons, a race of humanoid robot and androids who were the villains of the story. Besides the capital ships, both sides had also launched fighter craft. ~Here we go.~ He spotted an enemy craft and joined the fight.

(USS Illuminar – Pilot’s Ready Room – ACONN Alexander Dyson – 0757)

Alex had been in the holodeck until 0700, when he had been kicked out by security who needed it to run some kind of drill. He could have gone back to his quarters. Instead, whoever, he had gone to the Ready Room. He had found a chair in a place with plenty of legroom and was now using it to take a nap. He had learned how to nap in the oddest places and positions, because some of his previous assignments had been short on beds.

Maintenance areas, Sickbay and even empty cargo crates were all on the list of places where Alex had gotten some shut eye. And that was just the tip of the iceberg.

“Losssy, my tea’r sweat loassy…”
