Mission: Death in the Shadows
Day: 8
Stardate: 2446.02.08
(USS Illuminar - Deck 1 - Ready Room - CO - Captain Sekal - 0631)
"There is one more thing. The Hewmons have a saying. There's no time like
the present. Since I'm here, and with all that's happened, with you almost
dying, how are you doing? How is Captain Sekal?"
The Vulcan quirked an eyebrow. "Curious. I hadn't considered an informal
counseling session within the Ready Room." He sat back in his chair and
looked about the office for a moment as he reflected before returning
his gaze to her. "The attack and subsequent events were singular to be
certain. While within the healing trance I saw flashes of my time upon
Vulcan within the monastery atop Mount Sehlaya during the time of Kolinar
training. I could vividly recall my teachers and certain lessons learned
that were instrumental in assisting me with the repairs to my body."

"After leaving the trance it did not take long to become reacclimated to
events and return to my role on the ship, it did however take three days to
regain my physical strength and stamina. One thing I have noted is a more
pronounced understanding of what humans call mortality. The intellectual
exercise of knowing that one day I will no longer be sitting in the
Captain's chair. That time will pass me by and preparations like the
Captain's final words will inevitably have to be made ready in case I do
not return from a mission."
(Reply: Reea)
"The passage of time is inevitable, Counselor. I am young by Vulcan
standards but I will not be the Captain forever. I will one day either
retire, be moved up in rank, transferred to another ship or die either
during a voyage or planetside. Should the latter happen I have those on
board who could take my Katra to Vulcan if necessary and if my body can be
recovered in time. I take no emotional content from the exercise nor is
there any dread associated with it. It is simply a statement of fact and
therefore logical.
