Mission: Death in the Shadows
Day: 9
Stardate 2446.02.09

(Sigma Draconis VI - Underground- CO - Captain Sekal – 1333)

“So your attendance here is not by design. That is very interesting.
Clearly the controller was looking for Vulcan life signs. I am curious as
to how this will alter the plans of the controller.”

"No I was apparently not invited to attend." Galk rumbled. "And I intend to
make sure the Controller's plan is irrevocably shattered." He pulled the
hand phaser from his belt and hefted it meaningfully. "I don't think this
was planned for either."

“We are clearly here for a purpose, Captain. We may as well get
comfortable until someone comes to retrieve us.”

Sekal had been walking the inside wall of their confining chamber and as he
came near to the portal placed his hands on the wall and began moving
slowly. His hands almost caressed the metal as he edged closer to it.

"It is not my intention to remain incarcerated to await the pleasure of our
captors Lieutenant. When we meet the Controller I plan on it being on my
terms not hers. This might be construed as an aggressive stance on the part
of another however it is vital it not seem we are here to solicit favors on
her part. Star Fleet is determined to end the menace that the pirates pose
and it will be done with or without her assistance."

His seeking hands found a warm spot that was slightly recessed though to
the unaided eye it would be invisible. Grunting slightly he moved to the
other side of the door and continued to feel the wall.

"All technology as you are aware has some similarities. Energetic output
requires something to power and deliver it as well as a method or grounding
or bleeding off excess energy." The fingers of his left hand found what
they were searching for. "Interrupt the flow of either one and you disrupt
the device."

His fingers traced the outline of the invisible indentation. "Mr. Galk is
your phaser still functional?"

The Klingon checked the charge. "It should be. I have a full charge. An
energy dampening field would suppress the power cell."

"Bring it here and use the heat setting to burn through the wall at this
location."

Galk stepped forward and pointed the weapon at the exact spot as Sekal
removed his hand.

"A rough square 3 centimeters on each side from the center point should be
sufficient."

"Setting 8, firing."

The intense blue beam hit the metal and began digging in. Galk made a rough
etch at the prescribed distance then stepped closer to see how far it had
eaten in. "This will take several minutes."

"Understood. Continue." Sekal stepped back and turned toward the door as
Galk worked. He could hear another voice calling from nearby.

"This is Cadet Surkal of Starfleet. I have been taken from the USS
Illuminar. Who is out there?"

He lifted his voice. "This is the Captain, cadet. We shall be free and with
you momentarily."

(Reply: Surkal)

Galk continued to work as the minutes ticked by. Finally. "It is loose
Captain." He removed his sash, covered his right fist then gave it a blow
on the lower edge that dislodged it then quickly flicked it out where it
changed on the floor.

Sekal stepped over and pointed to one of the circuits that appeared
energized. "Start with that one Mr. Galk. Cut it."

There was a burst of sparks as the phased energy beam severed the
connection and the force field vanished. Sekal stepped into the hall and
looked around. The corridor was deserted but would not be for long. There
was a panel beside the door to the cell they had just exited which was now
dead.

"Mr. Surkal." He had stepped to the next cell and saw the cadet inside. He
turned his head. "Mr Galk we do not have time to figure out the correct
sequence to deactivate the force field."

Galk nodded and dialed up the charge on the phaser. He point it at the
panel and fired. The panel arced and blew and the field winked out.

"Come cadet, our hosts will be along shortly and we do not want to make
their search for us simple. The Controller will doubtless not be expecting
an armed force to answer her summons."
