Mission: Death in the Shadows
Day: 8
Stardate: 2446.02.08

(USS Illuminar -- Deck 14 -- PO 3 P’Rah and Ensign (Sg) Galk, Son of Jos of
the House of Kor -- 0925)

P’Rah left Lee’s office feeling on guard. He thought he was going to be
better off on the ship but Lee kept wanting to dredge up his past. Too
many ‘Why’ questions. After walking about the ship, P’Rah came upon Galk.
“Lee suggested I come and talk to you about my duties on Alpha Shift.”

The Klingon turned and glowered from his considerable height. Due to his
mass he was easily intimidating. "Chief Lee sent you to me?" He rumbled.
"Very well. Follow me." He led the way to the turbolift and stepped inside.
"Bridge".

He turned as the lift began to ascend. "Since the Captain had released me
from personal security we have doubled our presence on the bridge. You will
be following me around today so will take a shift there. After we are done
I will take you to your assigned position beginning tomorrow and introduce
you to it. You were assigned a phaser were you not?"

“Yeah, I got a phaser.” P’Rah looked around. He was never on the bridge.
“Are you sure about the bridge? Usually not a position I have been in.”

The Klingon shrugged, a move that set muscles rippling. "You stand by and
ensure that operations on the bridge run smoothly without interference and
as a result the Captain is protected. When he leaves the bridge we will be
traveling in the same direction. Off shift there is a security station near
his quarters which is being manned on a rotating basis. This station has
been started up as part of a random security check. I'm assigning you to it
beginning tomorrow. You understand where I am going with this?"

“I believe I am to be the Captain’s Bodyguard” P’Rah said. “Follow and
protect. Is it customary to have a protection detail for the Captain while
onboard?” P’Rah wondered what had happened to require such protection.

"Unofficially." The big Klingon growled. "He has dismissed his protection
detail but we will be nearby anyway." He shook his head which caused his
mahogany mane to shift. "This is not normal for starship operations and I
hope at some point it will no longer be required. If the Captain asks you
about your nearness, tell him you are following orders and it is only a
routine rotation and send him to me if he requires an explanation." His
lips parted in a feral grin.

P’Rah turned his heat with a tilt. He gazed at the Klingon, “I think I can
handle that. Is there more that I need to know? Something else off the
books?” His animal instincts had to know more.

"Mmmmm. Yes." Galk looked away from the panel and back to P'Rah. "Do not
assume anyone is above suspicion. Watch everyone carefully. No one gets
near the Captain unchallenged and don't hesitate to stun anyone acting
suspiciously. Captain Sekal was attacked and almost murdered and we believe
there are more aboard. Am I clear?"

“I understand,” P'Rah is wondering how he could do more. “The Captain is
the first to believe in my innocence. I will protect him with my life”

"That's how I know you can be trusted." Galk then turned a malignant gaze
to the Caitian. "Do not betray my trust." His eyes and tone, his body
language spoke volumes.

“I would not dream of it.” P’Rah was good to his word, “After all you were
there for my innocence as well.”

"Yes." Galk turned to watch the door as the lift slid to a stop. "There are
few I trust on the ship. When this is over and we know who is involved I
would consider it an honor to preside over their execution." He glanced
back to the Caitian. "Not that they do such things in the Federation. A
pity. Treachery should be given no quarter."

“Perhaps exceptions will be made.” P’Rah agree.

(USS Illuminar -- Deck 1-- Bridge -- PO 3 P’Rah and Ensign (Sg) Galk, Son
of Jos of the House of Kor -- 0930)

"Not likely." Galk growled as the door opened and he stepped out of the
turbolift. The Captain was not in the command chair so they moved toward
the Ready Room. He motioned P'Rah to take up position by the Ready Room
door while he hung back and watched everyone on the bridge from a different
angle. There would be no more attacks on the Captain, not on his watch! By
turning his head slightly to the left he also had a commanding view of the
turbolift doors.

Waiting may not be his favorite activity, but P’Rah tried it. He glanced
around wondering about the figures around. He knew this was going to be a
long shift.
