Mission: Death in the Shadows

Day 8

Stardate 2446.02.08

(USS Illuminar -- Weston’s Quarters -- CMO Lt. Quinna Solice -- 14:15)

Quinna jumped into the swimming pool. All she wanted to do was swim. The
chlorine in the pool changed to Salt as Quinna was now in the middle of an
ocean. No boat, no island, just water. She had stopped swimming to tread
the water and look around. There was no rescue anywhere to be seen. She
was on her own.

She started swimming back the way she came. She hoped backtracking would
bring her back where she started. What happened was she ended up in
another location. Still, no one was there to save her. She realized that
she could never go back to the start of this swim.

What was the rule, “Never Swim Alone?” Quinna never knew what that meant
until now. She lost all her friends and now is lost in the ocean. She was
facing her fear. She was alone. She knew that Michael would be leaving
one day. He made her feel things that she never felt before. She knew his
status meant that he would eventually leave. Leave her.

With these thoughts, a small boat showed up on the horizon. Quinna started
swimming to the boat, but the boat seemed to be moving more away from her.
As she tried harder and harder to reach the boat, she felt a counter pull
at her ankles. She fought against the pull as she wanted onto the boat.
She did not want to be alone in the water. She wanted to know that even
when she was in deep water, there would be someone to pull her out.

The pull was resilient. It dragged her unexpectedly under the water. Now
Quinna could not breathe. She fought to get to the surface of the water,
but when she did, she only managed to get a half inhale of air. When the
last pull underwater came, Quinna tired and could not fight anymore. This
was it for her until she felt strong hands wrap around her wrists and pull
her out of the water.

Her Savior was in sight but Quinna did not see the hero. Her body lunged
into a state that was neither asleep nor awake. In this stage, Quinna sat
up in the bed gasping for air. The intake of the air sensation can only be
compared to the first breath of a newborn.

Quinna looked around the room. She was not in her quarters. She then
realized where she was at. “Computer, time,” Quinna asked.

“The time is 1415 hours” the computer replied.

“13 hours.” Quinna had not slept more than 3 to 4 at a time. 13 hours was
not custom for her. She wondered if he slipped her something. “Michael”
she called out.
