Mission: Death in the Shadows

Day 7

Stardate: 2446.02.07

(US.S Illuminar - The Prancing Pony- CTO Ensign T’Mur/ FO Command Sienna Williams-Verin & SPC Luma’lenai - 2247)

T’Mur watched with confusion as Trei attempted to go on stage when Sienna had already stated she was going to sing. Then she had received song requests from Hammons. All she wanted was to hear what her Sienna had prepared for her. She knew the territorial nature of other beings was an area of behavior she was just starting to comprehend, but this seemed more.

She could sense Sienna’s mood darken and decided that she needed “cheering up” before performing. She put a hand on Sy’s forearm and sent a wave of anticipation through the connection. Then she leaned over and gave her a kiss on the cheek.

“I am anxious to receive my gift, she said softly. “I am certain it will be … wonderful. How could it not? It comes from you and from your heart.”

Sienna took a deep breath and leaned in to kiss her mate directly on the lips, her taste like that of the white wine that she had been drinking earlier. She stood up slowly, smoothing the folds of her red sundress that showed tantalizing bits of her body but was not indecent. She had picked it out so that T’Mur could show off what now belonged only to her. The thought was arousing as Sienna took the few steps to the stage, the crowd cheering her on. The crew loved that their First Officer came among them, and acted her age when not on duty. It helped that she was a gifted musician and if she had not been from a fleet family would likely have pursued music as her life. But she really had no choice about her career as her entire family tree was littered with Admirals, starting with both of her parents.

On the stage was the microphone, and a variety of instruments that were usable by anyone. Sienna drifted among them, picking up the acoustic guitar and taking a moment to get it tuned before setting it back down again. She moved to the keyboard first, as this song would not have a karaoke track behind it. Cracking her knuckles, she put her hands on the keys and closed her eyes. The first sounds of an old earth love song came through the speakers. Ideally it should have a flute as well, and Sienna regretted for a moment not asking Luma to take that part, but maybe when Sy performed this at their wedding.

Some say love, it is a river

That drowns the tender reed

Some say love, it is a razor

That leaves your soul to bleed

Some say love, it is a hunger

An endless aching need

I say love, it is a flower

And you, it's only seed

Sienna’s eyes sought T’Mur’s as she continued to play and sing. This was a beautiful song, written in the best parts of her voice. She remembered that it was one of her mother’s favorites. Her fingers danced over the keyboard as she continued to sing, her mind linking with her mates so that T’Mur could feel the fierce love that Sy had for her. And then it was the last part of the lyrics and her favorite part of the song.

When the night has been too lonely

And the road has been too long

And you think that love is only

For the lucky and the strong

Just remember in the winter

Far beneath the bitter snows

Lies the seed that with the sun's love

In the spring becomes the rose

Sienna finished the song and then leaned back, taking a deep breath. She was overly warm, not just from being under the hot stagelights. Performing was work, which was one of the reasons that she used it as a way to help her fall asleep. She accepted the glass of ice cold water from one of the waitresses as the silence in the room exploded into noise, cheers and exuberant clapping.

T’Mur listened to the words intently. The musical qualities were unsurprisingly typical of Sienna, and she could feel the emotions of the others in their group, and the room. Sienna was feeding off their emotional state and it made her performance even better. But the words touched T’Mur.

When the crowd burst into applause, T’Mur moved onto the stage and drew her mate into her arms, kissing her deeply. She opened her mind and brought their thoughts together as they enjoyed each other for the moment, then she withdrew. She pulled her to the side of the keyboard and held her hands.

“And now it is my turn,” she said, looking at the surprised look on her mates face. Sienna was well aware that T’Mur had not developed much musical talent, but she had been working on something and wanted to surprise her with it now. “Stand right there.”

She moved over to the microphone and addressed the crowd. “I apologize for any breach of protocol, but I believe that such a moment must be answered immediately.”

There were calls of support from around the room. Nodding she pulled a file from her hiding place in the dress. “I am not as talented as my Sienna, so I must use recorded music. However, I am well aware of this ship's preoccupation with music from the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, and it is my desire that you enjoy my selection.”

She pressed the play button and the lights went down. A spot light came up on T’Mur and another on Sienna. Then the music began to play and T’Mur locked her eyes on Sienna’s.

Ahhh, now I don't hardly know her

But I think I could love her

Crimson and clover

Ah when she comes walking over

Now I've been waitin' to show her

Crimson and clover

Over and over

T’Mur began to walk towards Sienna in a very suggestive manner, looking deeply into her eyes. She picked up her hands and began to dance slightly as the music crescendoed.

Yeah, my mouth’s such a sweet thing

I wanna do everything

What a beautiful feeling

Crimson and clover over and over

She released her hands as the music rose again. Then she stepped back to the center of the stage followed by the spot light.

Crimson and clover

Over and over

Crimson and clover

Over and over

Crimson and clover

Over and over

Crimson and clover

Over and over

The music died down and the lights faded. Then the house lights came back on and T’Mur waited for the reaction.

The crowd roared around them and Sienna threw her arms around T’Mur, holding the other woman to her. ::That was beautiful and the best thing, ever. I love you. We need to perform more often together.::

Luma’s voice came over the sound system =^= Luma enjoyed muchly! Luma sings and our Sienna plays her flute next? Luma wants to make the sings too! =^= The Lenai was much too happy at the moment and was spreading that infectious joy around the Lounge.

::Seems she wants to perform too. Do you want to go back to the table or stay up here with us?::

::I am ill prepared for such an occasion. I will sit and enjoy watching my heart perform.:: She held her hands as she stepped back, only releasing them after their fingertips could no longer reach and returned to her seat and the awaiting friends.

>From the holo-emitters Luma’s ‘small one’ form appeared, the purple cat ears atop her long purple hair, and a long purple tufted tail. Her long whiskers shone in the light, as if tinged with glitter. Her dark violet eyes were cheerful and sparkling. Luma was dressed in a purple sundress that was a match to Siennas.

“Welcome Luma to the stage!” Sienna cried out, twisting her metal flute pieces together. ::I need to find a wooden flute at some point, that is more in keeping with the kind of music Luma likes singing to. :: She sent to T’Mur, blowing experimentally into her flute, then wincing at the sound. It wasn’t exactly together properly.

T’Mur moved to the side of the stage amd began to rummage through the instruments. She was well aware that this was not an uncommon occurrence so she felt that statistically, they should have what she required. After a few moments she found the wooden, cylindrical instrument and brought it to the front of the stage. She kissed the blow hole before handing it up to Sienna.

Sienna took the wooden flute from T’Mur with a bright smile and put her own metal flute down, and blew into it experimentally. It was a much better fit, the sound more organic and less mechanical. Luma was watching Sienna and Sy nodded, beginning the piece. This was a piece from the Illuminari people and Sienna was glad that she was not going to have to twist her tongue into the rather beautiful phrases. The tone of the piece was of looking for a home amongst the stars, rather emotional as Luma often was. As the piece came to an end, Sienna bowed and pointed with her flute towards Luma.

“We need more nights with Luma on the stage!” Sienna hopped off and took T’Mur’s hand, having left the wooden flute on the stage reluctantly.

::Did you enjoy?:: Sadly the holo-emitters did not allow Luma to leave the stage so she shimmered away in a spectacular blaze of glitter. Sienna gazed up at her mate.

T’Mur actually smiled. ::It was almost as beautiful as you. Almost:: Still holding Sienna’s hands she leaned in and kissed her mate to the whoops and howls of the crowd.
