ILLUMINARRPG: (04- 1200 Chief of Security Lt jg Keung Lee

(USS Illuminar – Deck 14  Chief of Security Office – Chief Security Officer Lt jg keung Lee. 1200)

Lt jg Keung Lee, Chief of Security leaned back in the chair behind his working desk, his name plaque on his desk.  He was still savouring the thought that he had been made a lieutenant, Chief of Security even though he been carrying out the duties of such one when he was an assistant chief of security.  He still getting used to his new rank, being addressed as "Lieutenant " and no longer "ensign” any more. He had his work cut out, now having a department of his own to run. His responsibilities no longer revolved around what he had to do, but rather what he had to get others to do, Now it was official and the most fact of all, that he was a policy maker. He had plans to re-organise the Security department to make it more efficient.  His thoughts turn to making a conspicuous examination of the tablet PADD laid out in front of him. He looked up and gaze across the four cadets who arrived aboard the Illuminar two hours ago.  They certainly looked young, fresh out of the Academy and enthusiastic. Probably eager to please as well

“Welcome aboard the Illuminar and to the Security Department.  I am Chief of Security, Lt Keung Lee.  Now I want to make sure I have everyone I need here. Give a hoy when I call your name.  Cadet Eish Cush”

"Here," replied the Andorian, his antennae curling slightly. He seemed to be smiling at some private, secret joke.

"Cadet Winston Soar”."

"Present, Sir” A tall, lanky human, raised his hand

“Cadet Ray Wong’ said Ray, who felt a bit nervous.

“Cadet Jane Walker”

“Present, Sir” said Jane attentively. Her voice was a surprisingly sweet soprano, Keung noted, as he checked her record on his PADD again. She spoke with no hesitation or shyness, “May I say on behalf of the others it is an honour to be joining this ship and your department”

Talk about making an impression thought Lee. He still remembered when he had been a fresh baked ensign from the Academy. He knew the excitement and anticipation. He had all he cadet’s record and they all had come with pretty good credentials, with the right marks in the right topics. Cadet Eish

“Right, let’s get down to business.” Began Lee.  “Actually, I want to start with the basics of what it means to be a Security officer in Starfleet and above all being on board a starship.
Security Officers are part of Starfleet Security and are responsible for security aboard all Starfleet and some Federation outposts, vessels, and facilities. In this function, they act in ways analogous to local and regional police agencies, but Starfleet Security's mandate extends much farther than that. The agency is responsible for maintaining and enforcing Starfleet Security regulations, procedures and policies on all Starfleet and affiliated facilities, outposts, and vessels.

One of the primary duties of the Security department on board the Illuminar is safeguarding vital areas that may be vulnerable to theft or sabotage, or that might draw intruders. I am talking about such areas which include the bridge, main engineering, the central computer core, cargo bays containing valuable goods, the shuttle bays, and the brig. When the ship  t, guards are routinely posted at security stations on the decks located near these vital areas, able to monitor the security scanners and respond quickly if there is a need.

For a yellow alert. You will be placed on guard at vital points throughout the ship. You may be given special orders regarding access to those facilities such as allowing no one but the Captain and First Officer access. You will allow access to authorized crewmembers unless ordered otherwise. The Captain, First Officer, or Security Chief can also give certain crewmembers access privileges, as needed.

Under red alert, security guards are posted on all decks, as well as vital areas of the ship. If an intruder alert is sounded, security personnel guard all turbolift and airlocks, and begin sweeping the ship for signs of intruders. Information is relayed back to the Security Monitoring Station and myself
Standard procedure calls for at least one security guard on duty in the transporter room when unknown or potentially dangerous individuals transport on board. The transporter chief can hold such individuals in stasis in the pattern buffer if necessary, to await the arrival of security, and transporter scanners automatically detect any dangerous weapons or other devices, and can render them inoperative before the subject rematerializes, making security's job easier.

A prime duty of Security is safeguarding the commanding officer of the Starship.  Captain Sekal and he is considered a vital element of the ship, and treated accordingly. The captain should have a security escort at all times in red alert situations, and when beaming down into any situation that might become dangerous. The Security Chief helps to safeguard the captain while on the bridge, but additional security personnel should be present if trouble is expected.

Part of safeguarding the captain involves performing security sweeps of areas before the captain enters or beams into them. Security personnel check for any potential hazards and ensure they are within reasonable limits before the captain arrives.

As part of security, you will form a vital part of Away Team Missions and every away team have at least one security officer or more. When you are assigned to an Away team, your role is to remain alert for any signs of danger to the crew.  Safeguard the lives of all away team members and of course, you will probably be engaged in gathering tactical and strategic information regarding any possible threats.

There may be occasions when a Starfleet crew may find itself with prisoners: criminals they have apprehended, captured attackers, or even unknown aliens. On this desk, there is a brig to hold prisoners and you will be assigned brig duty”

Lee stopped and quickly checked his Padd for anything else to say, then looked up at the cadets and he noticed that these a sense of apprehension among them.  Just then the chine on his entry door sounded.

“Enter” called out Lee

The door slides open to reveal a large well built Klingon who slowly walked into the room.

“Ensign Kolr Loceu reporting.” Growled Kori

Lee could feel the tension among the cadets as they turned to see the Klingon bearing down upon them.

“This is ensign Kolr Loceu.  I’ve assigned you four to him as your orientation officer and instructor. He is also the Gamma Shift leader.  By the way, we operate a three-shift system on this ship. Alpha shift – 0600-1400; Beta – 1400 to 2200 and Gamma Shift 2200 to 0600.  Its also known as the graveyard shift which Mr Loceu will probably explain.  Also, it is a good opportunity for you to spend more time with Mr Loceu during the graveyard shift.”

Any enthusiasm felt by the four cadets dissipated at the thought of having a Klingon being their mentor.  Cadet Eish thought to himself that this maybe a challenge too far for him. Especially as Andorians traditionally never got on too well with Klingons.  Any idea of having an easy relaxing breaking in period thought Winston, was now of the window.  Cadet Wong who never been too successful in physical training was now wondering what the instructor has up his sleeve.  Jane Walker thought if Ensign Loceu would go easy on her!

“Just one final thing before you are dismissed.  I want you all to realise that this is a much smaller environment than the Academy, and being part of this crew means having the responsibility to avoid any relationships or situations which might lead to a negative impact on the efficient running of this ship. You are all part of a team"

"Yes, sir, fully understood." Said Jane.

The others nodded in agreement

“Excellent.” Said Lee, smiling. “Good luck and welcome board again.  Ensign Loceu. They all yours. Dismissed.”
“Cadets.” Roared ensign. “On your feet and move out. On the double.”
